Good show/movie but too many why would they do that scenes.
ericfield-5354223 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The first few episodes of Survive were actually really good. Then it started to get kinda on the ridiculous side. Too many scenarios that just either wouldn't happen or no way they'd "survive". I get it's a show but it felt lazy. A plane crash on a mountain top and having to make it down is hard enough. SPOILERS: an avalanche and a wolf attack is too much. And in one scene Sophie Turner is walking on a paved road and the next she's crossing a river! If not for some of those scenes i would've given it a 7-8 stars and not a 6. Which is generous. The acting itself was pretty good. I like both of the actors in the show and they played well off of each other.

Sophie Turner is fantastic here
iamkeysersoze-1322817 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Survive whilst not perfect, it still shows that Quibi is definitely something to check out cause they are really delivering quality shows from day one.

Although Survive moves a bit to quickly in terms of pacing and story. Which means it doesn't always focus on the small details which are essential to survival shows. However that being said what we got was still rather good. It's really investing even if it goes by super quickly. It does have a lot of tense and captivating moments. The show has great character development. You actually do care about them succeeding even if you know the outcome of where the show is going. Sophie Turner delivers her best performance to date. She is super talented here. Corey Hawkins is great as well. Both work really well together and really carry this film since it is pretty much them for the entire show

The finale is terrific and seriously works well. It actually has emotion and it works well due to the strong writing and Sophie Turner. The first three episodes are really great and because of that it makes the finale work so well. Some of the CGI does look rather iffy at times especially the avalanche scene. However for the most part they do such a strong job especially with the plane crash Overall it's a solid show which is definitely worth watching. It's not perfect but from Turner and Hawkin's chemistry alone, it's worth watching.

8-minute episodes that you can't watch on your TV
chet197 May 2020
And they make you pay for it too! Quibi has some money behind it and it will probably last, but Survive has to set the tone for this new "network," and they haven't done so yet. Users have voted this a 6, and I must concur. Apparently, this series (or rather a movie with an interruption every 8 minutes) is supposed to be about plane crash survivors, but early on it's about a suicidal drug thief who ditches her young sister. She isn't very likable. I guess we're supposed to feel for her and she'll turn into a hero? Eh. Maybe this would be better if we could watch it on a television, but Quibi's braintrusts decided to offer this on phones only. Also there are 2 entire episodes in the middle of this series that consist of the drug thief and the bossy stalker sitting in a cave talking. Talk about slowing down the action! (It's also a cliche because every Lost-in-the-woods story has the scene where they "just happen" to discover a nice warm hunting lodge or a convenient cave.)

A Worthy Survival Flick...
wmcsallai21 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
One of the first films I have seen on Quibi with an episodic format of about 8-minutes per episode, and there are twelve episodes. Like a lot of other people that have provided reviews of this flick, I thought that the brooding/melancholy that Jane exhibited, one of the main characters, went a little too long. Paul, the other main character, provided both the will to go on and the drive to seeking civilization. Plenty of events along the way down from their crash site to provide the drama. Transitioning from cliff-side to the ground was a huge leap in the story. The ending was predictable, but I enjoyed the story anyway. I think that if they had spent a bit more time on the front-end of this movie, I think they would have been able to edit-out a good bit of the segments to qualify as a short-film.

The performances by both Sophie Turner & Corey Hawkins were splendid in these roles and you get to see both actors provide a great deal to this feature throughout, they indeed made it worthwhile to view this movie. The cinematography was great with plenty of epic wilderness scenes & flyovers to give you a sense of how difficult the going was through the snow and the rubble along the peaks. This film did not rely upon special effects, particularly absent in the plane crash. In my opinion, this provided a good deal of suspense. Though both actors are attractive, the only one showing any skin was Corey to assess his character's injuries, which only added to the drama of the story.

I gave this film seven stars only because it should have been a short-film. I don't think that it would have done well in theaters, but it definitely would have done well at film festivals and received recognition in the form of nominations. It is worthy of your time. I also came away from it with a memorable line uttered by Corey's character about memories. You'll have to view the film to hear it!

From bold and daring into absolute pulp..
hansbuiskool20 May 2020
Aka, how to turn a great photography human interest story into a fully orchestrated false sentiments soap opera. The script sadly and fully inconsistantly moves by the episode from a truely gripping opening into a highly unrealistic peptalk drama that even the nowadays Walt Disney studios would probably be too ashamed to subscribe their name to. From the twist in the plot, one predictable cliche from A to Z, accompanied by a rediculously overdone full orchestra musical soundtrack that desperately tries to even enhance the already completely unproportionally overromantized message.., and a shame it is, for the first few episodes really did show a lot of promise..

Warning: Spoilers
Starts good and keeps ya watching. Then SPOILERS they make it a cliff where there is a tree line. They jump and the trees help make their fall. Ok fine. Then the next scene they're at the top of the mountain again with an avalanche and no tree line in site????? Wtf.. Does not make any sense and was actually enjoying it until that laziness

Very interesting and well done show
loeikat12 May 2020
I'd recommend this series for its topic, which is rarely seen, and the way it has been rendered. I've been in Jane's shoes, so I can tell it's relatable, and it shows a path that has to be known. Most of the show is more than a story, it's the psyche put in images. So it doesn't matter if there seem to be some inconsistencies, because they mean something important in the realm of thoughts. You just have to figure it out by yourself. Sophie Turner plays extremely well. And I found the whole show very addictive...

One of the better Quibi shows Warning: Spoilers
I think technically, "Survive" is supposed to be one of the 'movies in chapters', but you get the gist. While some of the logic is silly, (The character of Paul really just trips and falls completely off a cliff?? And why does Jane spend all of six seconds flailing around in the river after she's walked all that way?) it feels pretty fleshed out as a plot line, and pretty cohesive in general, as entertainment. Most of the logic goofs, I can explain away but they do catch one off guard a bit. Sophie Turner is a little bland in spots, but overall, she delivers a solid performance. Corey Hawkins, as Paul, is really good as well. For a total of 12 episodes, "Survive" does seem rushed. They could've easily added two more episodes and then not had the characters jumping from one deadly obstacle to the next; but then, maybe that wouldn't give the right suspenseful feeling. The ending, while a bit cliched, really ties things together well. I think this is one of Quibi's better offerings so far!

I Liked It More when........
prince_epime6 June 2020
Does anyone remember the 90's movie ALIVE? About the South American Rugby team that crashed into the Andes? The true story about how they had to resort to cannibalism to walk the mount.... dammit it is the same movie but not done as well. Did either one of these two drink any water during their trek?

Gripping
ayushmathur1437 April 2020
So this is the first show I watched on the Quibi app and it's pretty good. Starts off at a slow pace but then the show takes a whole new turn. Have some patience after the first episode because the show so far changes genre from what it seemed to be a mental issue related genre to a survival related genre.

A well-made mini dose of drama!

The main idea is absolutely not new. The acting was amazing though! I hoped if it was a little more longer with a different end! All in all it was fine.

Not creative at all!
mickosmile1 June 2020
This show is not even thinly vailing the fact that it's a complete copy of 2017 movie, The Mountain Between Us, mashed together with Netflix's "13 Reasons Why". If plagiarism is the new standard for creativity, then this show hits the spot.

An Exciting, Uneven Ride
kjproulx23 April 2020
I'm the type of person who applauds something new and creative, regardless of whether it works or not. For that reason alone, I was very intrigued by the new streaming service by the name of Quibi. Made solely to be viewed through mobile devices and in any aspect ratio of your choosing, it makes for a fun experience. Now, the main issue I was also foreseeing was the fact that this format may become distracting if the subject matter was possibly too well-made to be viewed here. Well, I've made it through one of their first pieces of content in Survive, and if that any indication of how the rest of their shows are, I'll gladly continue watching.

Jane, a troubled young woman, finds herself at a very dark place in her life when the plane she's on goes down. For her, this is pretty much a wake-up call, as she and Paul are the only survivors. Fighting for their lives to escape the wilderness, this story never stops moving. Told in 10-minute segments or less over the course of 12 episodes, Survive basically feels like a film that has been chopped up in order to feel like a short television series. This format definitely won't work for every story that will be on this service, that's for sure, but this particular story worked fairly well. Still, I would've preferred watching this as an uninterrupted movie, even though that probably would've put an accent on its flaws.

Survive is hellbent on keeping you on the edge of your seat, so much so the point that every time you start an episode, you expect brief character moments, an incident that places them both in danger, and then a cliffhanger that will bring you back for the next 10 minutes. This format worked, due to the fact that it kept me hooked, but this was clearly made in the same way a feature film is made. If this movie hit theatres, it would've felt very repetitive. Watching characters continuously getting themselves into danger every 5-10 minutes probably wouldn't have worked for everyone.

Even though Survive does also get bogged down with some melodrama and goes a little over-the-top in certain areas, I found myself compelled for the majority of it, and that was absolutely due to the commitment by both Sophie Turner and Corey Hawkins. This is easily one of Turner's best performances, even though her dialogue is pretty conventional at times and Hawkins plays off her very well. Yes, due to some of the dialogue, their chemistry felt a little forced, but they were both giving it their all. By the end, I found myself attached to both of them and choosing to brush off some of the bad or cliched dialogue.

Overall, even though I haven't had the chance to check out other offerings on the Quibi streaming service, Survive proves to me that they aren't just trying to be a new fad. They're going for some solid storytelling and even though I have issues with this particular story, it was still a good series, which I'll just choose to call an uneven film. It was in good hands in front of and being the lens and it really goes show as a final product. Is it a must-watch, no, but the service is absolutely worth checking out and Survive is worth your time, since it's not very long.

A sign of the times
urbanswami11 May 2020
A nice, but ultimately pointless show. It's basicly a remake of "The mountain between us" for people with the attention span of a gold fish. And that's just sad. The story is good (it made for a hell of a movie), the acting is solid (hence the two star rating), it's the notion of breaking down a story into 8-10 minute bits and then offering it exlusively on small screen that ruins it for me. I know everyone has bills to pay but this show ought to have been turned down by both actors, 'cause it sure as hell won't further their respective careers.

Worth the time
baldwin-heather2 August 2020
Short and brief episodes but definitely a binger. I recommend it. Best quote from Corey (Paul) is "it's funny how one bad memory can stay with you for a lifetime but a million good ones just fly away" or something along those lines. It's crazy accurate.

Good Acting Can't save Poor Writing And Directing
Alice_Guy-Blache15 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Because this project, originally intended as a feature film, could neither get a wide cinema release nor a better streaming platform to distribute it, it ended up on the soon-to-be defunct Quibi platform where no one will see it. And the people who subscribed to see Sophie Turner will feel ripped off and drop their subscriptions the following month. Even the good acting from the two leads couldn't save the sophomoric directing and writing. This might've been a different story if it were a short film--so much screen time is devoted to the brooding desperation of the lead character that it's redundant and annoying. Don't get me wrong, it's quality brooding, and the production definitely got its money's worth out of Turner, but we got it after the first 7 crying/sadness scenes; she's depressed. And then there's too much cliché. Had they edited down to the 25 minutes it deserved, this could've been an award-winning albeit student film.

I'm just putting the rating to ask a. Question
willisjanel8 September 2020
I'm planning on watching this with teen kids. And I don't see anything like is written specifically about kids in mind content. I know the show has nudity because the beginning said so but I don't know Where the nudity is in the show and how raunchy is the nudity in it? If someone could inform me that would be great. I'm hoping I can just FF through the scene.

Most whining character ever written for tv
djangosteve19 July 2020
This was the worst POS I have ever seen. The most whining character ever written for television is stuck on a mountain top with A guy who is just trying to survive while all she wants to do is just die. He drags her thru 8 episodes. I survived 12 episodes somehow. Truthfully I only survived about 8 episodes. Wow I'll never get that time back. Thankfully Quibi episodes are only 15min long

Amazing performance of Sophie and successful stressful scenes. The episodes were too short. I believe it was better to make this as a movies rather than TV short lenght tv series .
