A mediocre episode
guusdekroon3 November 2019
It had me laughing here and there, but it's not like the other episodes of the good place. It's just okay. I'm hoping on something a bit more spectacular for the other episodes, fingers crossed.

Can humans be good?
mohamadacma9 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Bad janet is being told the story of why there is hope for humans. The four experiments led by eleanor has proven hopeless so far. After a novel was written by one of the arrogant four which was racist, sexist, and unreadable. No one could bring themselves to compliment it and the writer won't apologise for having been so arrogant. In the end, they gather and try to come up with ideas on how to get these people to do good and pick up good points. Micheal teels janet that the question isn't whether humans are good or bad but it is whether they're doing better today than yesterday. Eleanor, micheal, tahini, and the Asian guy, though stupid never lost hope for the tests throughout the season and they're all do their best to get the tests to do good to prove that humans can do good and go to the real good place.

I don't comment on episodes, but I HAD TO!!!
velandiaquijano1 November 2019
I have loved this show like crazy since the very first episode. Witty, brilliant, funny, interesting... And above all, so very well written. This episode is, so far, the best (Together with the Emmy-nominated one from the previous season). There's a very simple and at the same time very profound reflection about what it means to be good and bad nowadays... It was so smart! I want to see it again and recommend it to all my friends. The way it was written and set up is masterful, Michael Schur and his team are defining the boundaries of comedy and how useful it can be.

Great Episode
danieldomecq19 November 2019
The world may be going through a crazy time (the beginning of a more enlightened planetary society perhaps? Too much to ask for?), but television comedy is going through a true golden age, far better than the golden ages that have been claimed before. And this show is a big part of this new wave.

The level of plot complexity that unfolds in this episode is staggering, and yet they never goof up the many layers of back story we have so far. It's funny and it's moving in ways we've never seen before. And the characters continue to be fresh and funny and tender.

Must admit when the Donald Trump parody character got punched in the nose, I felt a momentary elevation. But -- yes yes yes -- I know that's not the solution, so I calmed down and just enjoyed the rest of the episode. (But still -- thank you, guys, for that moment.)

Meh

This season has been mixed with 1 and 2 being pretty uninspired and then picking up through 3-5. This episode however felt like filler, with the comedy leaning on stereotypes and forced sentimentality - a far cry from the original, quirky and deeper character interplay of the better episodes. Feels like they switched out the normal writers with the Disney Junior Channel. The cast however is, as ever, super talented and I hope for their sake the writing picks up to end this show as it deserves to.

20 minutes of finger-wagging
drecha6 October 2021
An awful episode filled with stereotypes and barely-concealed finger-wagging. Am I supposed to agree with the characters bullying another character into thinking like them? Nope, but I'm sure that the thoroughly straw-manned behaviour of that character will make some agree with that. It didn't advance the plot and made the characters thoroughly dislikable. One to be forgotten in an otherwise great season.

Reaching the end

Warning: Spoilers
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the fourth season has a rating of 100%, based on 21 reviews, with an average rating of 8.33/10. I know this is an unpopular view, but I find season 4 has lost a lot of sparkle and fizz and I'm not sure really why. Maybe I'm missing something, but could The Good Life had gone for a fifth season I don't know.
