While the crew of the Polaris station celebrates the last day of daylight before the long arctic night, the sun is high in the sky and the whole landscape is brightly lit. Actually the last arctic day is a brief dawn followed quickly by twilight, and the sun never rises more than a few degrees above the horizon.
When it's -100 degrees Fahrenheit, the crew go outside for several minutes with their faces completely uncovered. At that temperature, exposed skin will experience frostbite within seconds.
