Original is much better

Jill Scott was great in the show, but the story was bad. Not enough religious background like the original. The story did not add any feeling that Angels walk among us. The story was just - meh. Michael Landon was religious and it showed in his acting and stories. This was like a Hallmark show that Lifetime picked up.

Nice but Disappointing

Warning: Spoilers
It was too nice. Everyone was nice. There were no antagonists to give the movie some bite. It certainly was not a Lifetime movie. It was more like a Hallmark movie that was shown on Lifetime. I had no problem with any of the actors, other than everyone was so nice. I was hoping to see a few more divine magic tricks besides the flower, the phone and the door. Rather mundane. The boy Cody reminded me of a young John Connor and a young Jason Bateman. That's a good thing. It would have been a little helpful if the dad and the principal didn't look alike. The movie dragged on a little too much in the last half hour. The electronic music was less than stellar. For the principal to be become the next Mark Gordon, I was hoping he'd be a little feistier. But he's just nice, like everyone else. A nice movie that set the table for a nice TV show.

The Best Ever!

My wife and I were big fans of the original series and have the entire series on DVD. So we were looking forward to this new version. It's wonderful! A great cast, especially Barry Watson. There were a few great surprises, especially at the very end. The lead character, Jill Scott brings just the right touch to her character referring at times to "my boss". Here sensitivity is just right as she deals with more than just one person needing "readjustment of attitudes". I think it was successful to the original idea because two of Michael Landon's sons were involved in the production. We've seen the program two times so far and are hoping this turns into a regular series. Though we won't see most of the characters in the future (except for the new assistant to the "angel"), we know and believe this show is a needed thing during the times in which we live.

Dont waste your time. The original Highway to Heaven with Michael Landon was so good... such wonderful stories and acting. You CANNOT remake that. This one had a horrible storyline and bad acting. You cant remake the good stuff from the 80s, so why do they even try? If you want to watch Highway to Heaven, go was the ORIGINAL. This show is a slap in the face to Michael Landon.

Heartwarming, Feel Good movie
anitaincountryside9 November 2021
If you were a fan of the original Michael Landon series, you will enjoy this one. Jill Scott is the angel sent to earth to assist a young boy and his father. As typical with these movies, yes, the plot can be predictable but with a movie like this, we do not need mind shattering surprises or twists. I personally want a story I can understand and relate to and an ending that gives me hope and faith in God, people and the world in general. Jill Scott is extremely well suited to this role. She channels a feeling and aura that reminds me of Della Reece which is a huge compliment in a faith based movie.

Good movie?
glennedgley13 December 2021
I watched the Highway to heaven series; and, this was similar in content.

However, is it a good movie?

Seriously, I thought we didn't make anymore 'B' movies. As a movie this was mediocre at best. Not only was it predictable, expected, but the acting just about put me to sleep.

If this becomes a new series, please change the cast to interesting actors, and get a better script writer.

And then there is the question; why do we have to be inundated with remakes of old shows?

Doesn't anybody haves enough imagination or talent to write new shows?

I don't like it.
victoriamichaels-916116 November 2021
I just don't like it (.) Because the old one was almost like thinking that there are Angels out there and it was the most beautiful feeling ever. So i guess I'm saying that this new one will never Measure up to the old one. Bye.

It is such a heartwarming and beautiful movie! The message was just great! Jill Scott was just amazing in this role. You can just feel she put all her heart and soul into this movie. In such uncertain and difficult times we need more kindness and this is a reminder that everyone can be an angel to those who are struggling in this life.

It's back

Warning: Spoilers
Highway to Heaven was a TV series that ran on NBC from September 19, 1984 to August 4, 1989. It starred Michael Landon as Jonathan Smith, an angel who walks the Earth, helping souls along with retired cop Mark Gordon, who was played by Victor French, Landon's co-star from Little House on the Prairie.

Sadly, French died two months before the final episode aired. Landon went on to appear in two films - including a pilot for a new series - before he died in 1991.

This reboot has Angela Stewart (singer Jill Scott) as the angel sent down here to help people in need. In the premiere movie - one assumes there will be more - she takes on the role of a temporary school counselor and gets involved in the lives of junior high school principal Bruce Banks (Barry Watson from 7th Heaven and the Boogeyman reboot) and troubled student Cody (Ben Daon).

This was written by Angelica Chéri, Cathryn Humphris and Michael Landon's son Christopher. It was directed by Stacey K. Black, who has directed episodes of Major Crimes, the new version of Walker and Station 19.

If you enjoy faith-based dramas with heart, well, you may not be reading our site. But if you do, you'll find something to love here.

The stariway is woke
bardattack-0665619 November 2021
If you look at the highest scores for this film, you'll notice the reviewers have ONE review in their history. What does that tell you! What we have here is a beloved 80s series that won't fly in 2021. Male lead? No, no, no. White lead? Heaven forbid! In their effort to erase the past, the producers seemed to have forgotten to tell a good story, which is okay because that was never the intention.

This was so good.
peggyverry21 November 2021
Jill Scott was adorable as the angel. I loved the series with Michael Landon but it would be hard to duplicate that. This movie doesn't try to do that; it brings the general idea of the original, but it is something fresh, light with positive uplifting energy, something that is needed today with all the heavy negativity around. I hope they will make this into a series ... soon.

I enjoyed the show, and I look forward to seeing a reboot of Michael Landon's show.

Jill Scott is fabulous, and Barry Watson was endearing. I can't wait for them to turn this made for tv into a regular tv show.

Great for these times of so much evil light
sdempsey-6210416 November 2021
This is a show that needs to be on tv. With all going on in this world we night light in this midst of so much evil and hate. I loved this and looked forward to seeing more. This show helps people feel that there is someone watching over us all and shows our youth also how to want for more than so much hate. I hope this can be a regular show. I loved the original and think the remake is definitely for the new era. God bless and smooches all.
