Ghetto version of Guy Ritchie movies, but not a good one
KineticSeoul13 April 2010
This is like the ghetto version of some of Guy Ritchie's movies, since it tries to copy Guy's style and all and a bit of "The Pineapple Express". Some may enjoy this sort of comedy, but it just tries to show more of the black foolishness similar to Tyler Perry's movies, but at least Tyler Perry's movies are sometimes funny this is not. I agree with some of the reviewers that say this film tries too hard to be funny, it's true the creators of this film probably thought by making a bunch of guys acting all obnoxious and foolish would be humorous but it is not in this movie and there is no depth to it. I did like it's style of being all over the place and at the end it gets all put together, not very original but it was alright. I guess it's decent as a rental at best though as long as you watch it with a couple of friends.

it so much wants to be funny that it totally fails at it
donfischi7 September 2009
this movie was a very big disappointment. when i read about it the first time i thought it could be quite funny. the synopsis suggested a crime comedy mix with some nice twists and plenty to laugh about. but i was totally mistaken.

the plot had no real dynamic and all the plot twists were not surprising at all, if you can even call them twists. add to that a bunch of stereotype characters with no depth and personality and you can imagine how captivated i was by this movie. i thank god that the total absence of good jokes and comedy didn't distract me form experiencing this absence of emotion in this great void of boredom.

don't get me wrong. i didn't want to puke during the movie or something like that. it was only after i resurfaced from this sea of dullness that i realized how much of a big waste of time this movie was.

Express delivery
p-stepien13 October 2011
Being addicted to the doobie may not be the best character trait when working for a courier service. Leo (Donald Faison) seems unperturbed, given his mother is the person who hired him. On another typical high Leo mistakenly delivers a package full of heroine to a bunch of slightly retarded wannabee gangsta / bank robbas / criminimal masterminds Brody (Mike Epps) and Guch (Wood Harris). This quickly causes a series of events which lead to the opening scene of the movies: Leo being surrounded by people with guns and a low tolerance for ineptitude.

"Next Day Air" closely follows in the footsteps set out by movies such as "Snatch" or "51st State", although this time around it takes place entirely in the States with 80% of the movie occurring in two rooms. As can be expected it is a mix of unabated comedy with brutal gangsters, fast talking criminals and crazy sequence of events ending with a grand showdown finale to tie all the separate plots and characters together.

Based on a very rudimentary plot the movie aims at delivering the package with the minimum necessary runtime. At just 84 minutes and no less than 9 main characters being involved there is no place for their development, background or emotional involvement. Instead we get a fast paced movie (which somehow manages to find time to have pointless detours into non-funny side scene attractions) with a lack of purpose. None of the character are able to catch your attention and involve you in the story, although Omari Hardwick (playing a drug dealer wanting out of business) does his sincerest best to bridge the script shortcomings.

A sorely empty package filled with fluff, but at least the delivery is express so at least you won't waste a lot of time waiting for it to be over and done with.

You need to have a good background of not only watching movies but interacting with diverse people to understand the story and humuor behind each narrative.

Na'mean?!??
dutchbeats13 November 2009
Hey what can I say I like stuff you don't have to think about! I was surprised how good this flick is; simple and well-paced with genuinely funny moments and actors. There is also some eye candy(as well as nose candy!) but hey, what do you expect from the film directing debut of the guy who makes videos for 50 Cent? It looks and feels like a Guy Richie movie so if you liked those you'll enjoy the 'American version' replete with slow motion shotgun blasted dude flying through the air in slow motion in the apartment. But if you think it's all about violence think again, this film is pure jokes and cameos(cassidy, mos def, debbie allen etc.)with lots of herb smoking and hard hip-hop backdrops. And besides, who hasn't fantasized about hog-tying and slapping the UPS guy? I know I have. Did I mention the dude from Family Matters is in it and totally kicks @##!?

Stoopid funny ..."not so amart" thugs always make me laugh
pinkzmusic27 January 2021
Admittedly comedies are difficult to do. Timing inflection presentation..but I love a zany story/plotline ie.clue/death at a funeral/tropic thunder/hangover etc. This movie had what I like easy fun "stoooopidness" lol

Any dumber and it would club itself to death

I'm trying hard not to think all that stuff is right about Mayan doomsday later this year. Over the weekend, I saw a grating 15 minutes of this atrocity (that's all I could STAND) and was sure it's a sign End Times are upon us. "Next Day Air" is stupid. It's loud. It's pointlessly violent. It's an Egyptian soccer match of a movie. In one scene, a character cuts out someone's tongue - and that's the punchline! Hilarious! Someone must tell Yazmin Deliz that no one is sitting around missing Rosie Perez performances; foul-mouthed and screeching just isn't attractive. I'd like to know who gave this piece of crap a green light. Who? Who could hate us so much as to allow this to be made? It earned just over $10 million box office on its release - domestic and foreign - which probably was far under its budget. Many here have noted the movie is unfunny. That description doesn't suffice. "Next Day Air" is anti-funny; it explodes any wit or comedy in comes in contact with.

Sometimes funny, sometimes serious
view_and_review14 November 2021
This sometimes funny sometimes serious comedy was more suspense than anything. This was a Guy Ritchie clone about money and drugs, and it was all put into motion by one slacker of a delivery guy.

Leo (Donald Faison), slacker and weedhead extraordinaire for Next Day Air, delivered a package to the wrong apartment. The package was ten kilos of pure cocaine. The recipients, Brody (Mike Epps) and Guch (Wood Harris), just so happened to be hustlers and thieves, so they more than welcomed the mistaken delivery. They would simply sell the product to Shavoo (Omari Hardwick), Brody's cousin who was known to move weight. The only problem with this plan is that the stuff belonged to Bodega Diablo (Emilio Rivera) and he wasn't going to merely forget about his ten kilograms of snow.

All of the events of this movie occurred in a 48 hour period. The movie was light and breezy half the time, and the other half of the time it was like a hard nosed drug movie. I think that was its biggest flaw. Commit to one side or the other. I would've preferred full comedy because that's how it billed itself and that's how it started. The casting was good for that with Mike Epps, Donald Faison, Mos Def, and Darius McCrary. All of them are very familiar with comedy.

Pretty nice
kosmasp28 September 2010
Of course it tries really hard to be funny (and fails quite a few times), but it still seems likable, because it tries to be different. Plus it seems more coherent than some other "gangsta" movies (though that does not mean that much now, does it). The actors at hand, try very hard and sometimes convince and are quite funny.

All in all, the action and the (thin) plot move forward nicely enough. Nothing great, but OK. And while you have glimpses of violence here and there, it's more a comedy than anything else. Still the ending might throw a lot of people of, for being so different, than anything we would expect from a movie like that. But then again, maybe that's exactly what we would/should expect ...

Straight no chaser.
zampino14 February 2010
If this had not been played so broad, it could be a Sam Rami, A SIMPLE PLAN, or even a Cohen Bros. film, NO COUNTRY, or even FARGO! It even has a little Hitchcock in the script, but the acting is so very broad there is almost no other way to take it. It is a pretty good script that was taken specific way. Strange, I wouldn't mind seeing a remake same director, same actors, but a totally different take on the same material, and this time straight. Anyway I think the film is fun to watch because some of the actors are really good and the productions values are descent. You got to wonder if the studio as opposed the director had the last word on this one.

One ingredient short of being good...
paul_haakonsen2 September 2014
"Next Day Air" wasn't particularly funny, and I had expected it to be more of a comedy after having read the synopsis. So I was sorely disappointed once the movie ended.

The story is about a delivery of narcotics gone bad. As the unknowing delivery guy delivers a package to the wrong address, a large shipment of drugs end up in the hands of two men desperate for money. Those whom the delivery were intended for never receive the shipment and become pressed by their boss, meanwhile those who got it by mistake set off to sell the drugs through their contacts.

The story was entertaining enough, but I had just expected something more in the funny department.

The acting in the movie was good, and people were doing good jobs with their given roles and characters.

There was just something missing from the movie that kept it from being a good movie experience. What it was, I had no clue. But I sit here after having seen the movie and thinking that it could have been better. It is like a particular ingredient missing from your tomato sauce to make it stand out, you know?

"Next Day Air" had its moments, sure. But ultimately, then it wasn't an impressive movie. And as such, I am rating it 4 out of 10 stars.

brandonneicke10 January 2020
The best hood comedy by far, if your not from that lifestyle it definitely won't be funny but since there's millions of people who grew up in the hood. Good acting great funny expressions and the actual story is funny which is rare. The whole ideas hilarious

ugh
HandsomeBen9 January 2021
Mike epps is playing this like he's going for the oscar. The problem is that this movie is played up like a b movie comedy, with almost no jokes. Like a cheap z list version of the ''friday after next'' series. it's cringey seeing mike epps play it serious to prove he can do other things than comedy. The whole tone of this does not fit with that, and characters taking it too serious makes the film boring as heck. The only characters i liked were Mos Def and Donald fasion. Unfortunately they are barely in this in the first half. the last 15 minutes were the best part cause everything comes together but it takes so long to get there

Next Day Air
Prismark1019 December 2021
Next Day Air might had been better as a stoner comedy, Instead it stops being funny as it too often tries to become a violent soaked action movie.

A couple of petty criminals receive a drug shipment mistakenly delivered to them by pot headed courier Leo (Donald Faison.)

The cocaine was meant for their Latino neighbour Jesus. As he has not got the shipment. The drug lord is after him. In turn Jesus goes looking for the delivery driver Leo.

The men who have the drugs think this is a gift and plan to sell it on to one of their drug dealer cousin's.

The problem with the movie is that it is not very funny and none of the characters are likeable o that bright.

There is no one to root for and it ends up with a predictable blood soaked finale.

filled with annoying arrogant idiots
SnoopyStyle10 October 2015
Brody (Mike Epps), Guch (Wood Harris) and Hassie are incompetent bank robbers. Leo (Donald Faison) is a weed-smoking incompetent delivery man who has to beg his mother to keep his job. He delivers a box to the wrong apartment. It turns out to be a box filled with bricks of cocaine. They try to sell them to cousin Shavoo and he promises to come back with the money. Meanwhile Jesus is trying to find his package and assumes that Leo stole it. Jesus and Chita track down the wrong delivery guy Eric (Yasiin Bey).

Everybody is idiotic. Everybody is annoying. Everybody is arrogant. The problem is that I hate a lot of these characters. The biggest problem is Donald Faison because he is the most annoying of them all. He is the one character who shouldn't be the arrogant annoying idiot. He should be the innocent in the lot. The comedy comes from him getting caught up in a situation beyond his control. I want Leo to get killed in the most horrific way possible. Yasiin Bey would have been infinitely more likable as Leo. Mike Epps and Wood Harris are a fun duo. Their part is watchable but I hate most of the rest.

Shipping companies
barrygoldwater5295 May 2009
I have seen "Lost In Transit" and I have seen this film (Next Day Air) in a screening and it is funny, face paced and well put together. I did notice the similarities to "Lost In Transit" with the gold watch and the employee's rough housing with the packages but I think that's all in the spirit of what we think shipping companies are doing with our stuff! "Lost In Transit" is more of a Satire film with over the top characters much like a cartoon or comic book that actually works for that particular comedy. "Next Day Air" seems to be a bit more real life or day in the life of the characters whereas "Lost In Transit" the characters are in their own word.

Had me laughing from beginning to end
baltimoregoddess21 May 2009
I loved this movie. Ironically, I didn't want to see this movie. I mean how many movies can you see dealing with drugs and thieves? This movie had me laughing from the beginning to the end. The ending was very surprising and not how I thought it would turn out which was very refreshing. Great line up and chemistry between the actors. Mike Epps and Avon (I know thats his Wire name but hey that mind as well be his real name because thats how he will always be remembered) were great together. Mos Def also surprised me at how funny he could be. The Latin chick, although served her purpose as the eye candy, acting could have been a lot better. I was happy to see her since she is so pretty but what was the purpose of Lauren London's character? With everything said, the summary does the movie no justice. I was laughing the hardest in the theater. Will definitely get the DVD.

A gem of a movie..........
AlphaCritic18 January 2010
This movie was EXCELLENT. When i read about it the first time i thought it could be quite funny. The synopsis suggested a crime comedy mix with some nice twists and plenty to laugh about. I was totally RIGHT the plot was real dynamic and all the plot twists were good. Add to that a bunch of great characters with good depth and personality and you can imagine how captivated i was by this movie.

The Characters were stereo types but this just made the movie even funnier. This was a great effort by the director.

Just goes to show you don't need big stars and big budgets for a good movie. A great way to spend a couple of hours, even better with a beer !!

Great characters.
DaddyWarbux5 December 2020
I felt like the storytelling and characters are the strongest part of this movie.

The editing effects are a little dated. Lot's of freeze frame.

Not all of the comedy dialogue is strong but all of the actors are just funny alone and everyone has great chemistry. So many great duos and pairs in this movie.

This movie is like a lower budget Coen brothers movie. It is also an example of how you can make a great movie for 3 million dollars. The movie made 10 million.

This movie hit all of the right notes for me and is the perfect length.

Similar to the "Junkyard Willie Movie: Lost In Transit"
trashcanlid-130 April 2009
In watching this Summit film, I couldn't help but notice the similarities in this movie to Lost In Transit (September 2008). Next Day Air is basically about some black employees at a shipping company who misbehave. LIT is about a black "supervisor" who runs a shipping company and misbehave he does! At one point they open a package and find a gold watch, which they keep. In Next Day Air they find drugs inside a package. In LIT one employee is misled into believing by a "DEA agent" that weed is inside a package. LIT was released only 7 months earlier than Next Day Air. After seeing these two films lets hope this isn't what really goes on behind closed doors at companies like... well you know who.
