A Celebration of Ignorance
rjbentley24 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Did we watch the same movie? Looking at the other reviews of a movie clearly written in crayon by a committee of 10 year old home-schoolers, I can't match what others have written with what I watched. Do they really think that this is how college works? How a lawyer would prepare for a case before any court, let alone the highest in the country? That Patrick Henry is an actual accredited college in the first place? It was particularly depressing, given the current issues with swollen student loans, to learn that someone could walk out of Patrick Henry after 3 years with a $60,000 debt and a piece of paper that literally no one will accept as an academic record. So, let us also lightly brush over the property transfer between fathers that was the 'protagonists' marriage proposal. That the Mother - presumably at the top of her game if she's arguing before the Supreme Court - quits her profession to cook for a wastrel. That the Father was booted from a real college for pious lying, and is still unemployed. Oh, and moot court 'normally' has people arguing for both sides of an issue - but having seen the verbal contortions needed for Patrick Henry to literally create their own competition ladder, for them to then do it wrong should come as no surprise. Prospective authors are often advised to 'write what you know'. To write about subjects and events they have personal experience with. This movie, however, was apparently written by a bunch of people, some of whom may once have heard some legal-sounding words or phrases but clearly had no idea what they meant or how they worked in reality. Nor, apparently, did they have access to Google in order to check things such as basic definitions.

Don't drink the Cool Aid!
chad-walker14 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This low budget movie of the week reject is nothing but Christian propaganda about abortion. Every character in the film with exception to the main characters mother is pro life. Of course they are all sweat, well mannered intelligent people. The father is even a biology professor, that believes the world is only 6 thousand years old. How could you not get on board with all the people in this film. They are all so wonderful.

Except for the the evil secular mother, that just happens to be lawyer fighting against parental consent. She's tearing the family apart. Always working. Passing her workload onto her son (who is going to a Christian law school). Ignoring the family. Being passive aggressive towards her sons love interest. Even eating the last piece of her sons apple pie. Oh yeah, she's also a moral relativist. EVIL!

If you are an evangelical Christian, you'll probably think that this is the greatest film of all time. Even better than "Expelled". As is evident by the positive comments here. Everyone else. Take a pass.

From an inside perspective
starrocks-2982822 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I'm currently a Sophomore at PHC. I love the school. I also happen to be in agreement with most of this movie's political and religious philosophy.

With that said, this film has many problems. The movie moves far too quickly, jumping hours in a single shot. There are also numerous stereotypes of PHC students and people who were homeschooled, from the need for "commitment" before getting in a car with a woman to proposing to the dad instead of the woman. (The latter isn't seen but is sort of implied by the final line of dialogue in the movie.)

(Also, the movie is aimed at a faith-based audience. So why does it include a quick shot of a lady checking out Rachel's rear at work? That felt way out of place.)

It's not the worst movie out there, for sure. But unless you're a PHC student watching this to make fun of it, odds are you'll be very disappointed.

Come What May is not a choice, it's a decision.
lelie11 November 2008
This review is just about as diametrically opposite of the last reviewer as you can get. This was never made as a 'for profit' work, so trying to 'capitalize' is rather silly; money, capital, is not an issue. Sure, court IS boring, even more boring than most sports events. Both do have most of the people sitting around and waiting, and most uninvolved. But for the people involved in any court case, the emotions are very real and very important. This film is really about seeing things from another person's perspective; walking a mile in the other person's shoes. Had the first reviewer even bothered to watch to the end he would have realized that. The 'villain' of the first 90% of the film is finally realized to be simply a victim herself. That's what makes this a good film; the empathy one ends up feeling. Is it moralistic? Sure. Has that become a problem today? Sure, it deals with abortion in a far more real way than the slogans and platitudes normal given. It also deals with marriage problems in a better way than any current film short of "Fireproof". Is the sound track up to par? Please, this was a student film. You can't expect that. It might just be the best student film I've ever seen.

Come What May Review 2: Electric Boogaloo
matthewtjohnston-956333 February 2018
Come What May ruined my life. It consumed me, it trapped my soul in this purgatory where I live now. I am stuck here forever, doomed to watch the movie daily as it consumes me. All I have is my bed, the movie, and a television. As I watch it each day I remember what my life was like before. Perhaps I should start at the beginning. It was a normal day, or so I thought. I was just having what I thought would be a normal time at the College Republicans Convention, but then we decided to watch the movie again. I thought I could handle it. I thought wrong. As the movie wore on, I began to despair so greatly that I could not live with myself. The movie awoken something utterly indescribable. It tore at my heartstrings in a way nothing else could. And as my despair grew, there was nothing I could do. I cried out to God and threw myself off the balcony. "If this be your will, I deserve not to live," I cried. Alas, I did not die. I was merely rendered unconscious. During that time, I experienced something that I hope no one else does. I lived that movie over and over, seeing it. I may have only seen it eight times, but it felt like millions. When I came to, I didn't know what to do. So I did the only thing I remembered. I began quoting the movie, line by line, over and over. I couldn't stop. Those words were all I remembered, consuming me. I was declared insane, for obvious reasons. I will never forget my family and classmates weeping as I was committed. It has been a dark time for me in the mental institution. Though I was beginning to relearn things, I received a care package from a certain female classmate (who shall remain nameless) containing just three items: a DVD player, a small television, and Come What May. Why she did this, I may never know, and I certainly hope never to know. I suppose some people are just evil. But I was still obsessed, and I watched. I watched and watched and couldn't stop. I went days without sleep. All I knew was the movie, and I loved it, and it loved me. It was my only friend for these ten years. I will never forgive anyone for what they did to me. I hate them all. A decade and counting of my life wasted because of that wretched movie. It may not be right to blame them, but someone must be blamed, and they did this to me. If only I hadn't decided to see it all those years ago. To let it remain a mystery forever rather than have the life I do now. Every day that my family comes to visit, I am haunted by it, knowing what would have happened if I had just made the right decision and stayed far away from that movie. I could have made something of my life, done something great. But that movie keeps me here, forever, as I watch it each day, compelled by some satanic force forever. Don't make the same mistake as me. Let this be a cautionary tale, that you may not befall the same fate that I did. Come What May is the devil's work and anyone that tells you otherwise is working for him. This movie is an abomination to humanity and an affront to God.

What America Needs... A Backbone, Respectfully.
taftms8 November 2008
Content was spot on.

The only thing I could shake a finger at was technical. A few pregnant pauses. Sound was low for the speech in a few instances. Of course, I compare to the multi-million dollar budgets...

Speaking of that, I'm buying three DVDs. One for us and one for each of our children (for our grandchildren, actually).

As a conservative parent, this is perfect for the 10yr old and up. The stakes are high and the temptations are even higher. But the principled person sees the prize does not compare to the moment.

As a US natural born citizen, I hold it self-evident that all men are created equal. Is life to be lived firstly for ourselves? If it were, shouldn't the founding fathers have created a government that feeds their personal interests above the interest of "the people?"

Well worth seeing...
martt-212 November 2008
I admit that this isn't the highest quality production, but in a way similar to Fireproof, the work accomplished for the money spent is amazing. Highly recommend that you see the additional features on the DVD to better understand just how grass-roots this effort was.

This film shows young people seriously facing the big moral questions of our times, and shows them willing to think it through with more than just an Mtv (if it feels good do it) mentality.

The prevailing wind of human nature doesn't lead us toward goodness... this film definitely gives strength to those who want to stand against the prevailing winds.

Moving, Strong for a Low Budget
paulbiz87 November 2008
For a micro-budget movie, this movie will get you thinking, and surpasses most others in quality, though the low budget does show. The story does indeed hold up, and it presents some powerful arguments - especially knowing it's based on a real moot court case by the sponsoring college. This is definitely worth a watch and it will certainly get people talking together afterward!

Courtroom dramas have historically held up as dramatic vehicles, and does so here. Camera moves are too limited, due I'm sure to the budget constraints preventing a dolly or steady-cam. But the heart that comes through this picture makes it well worth watching.

And could it be more timely, even after the election? Perhaps it is more so.

This is the Greatest Movie Ever Made
matthewtjohnston-9563322 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is perhaps the greatest movie ever conceived of. I am thoroughly convinced that no movie will ever achieve the greatness that this movie did. I am also fairly certain that God created the world solely so that this movie could be made and we could watch it and bask in its glory. Every aspect of this movie, from the plot, to the writing, cinematography, and especially the acting were clearly a gift of God to the people who made this movie. The best scene by far is when Caleb and Rachel finally hold hands for the first time. That was the moment where I truly fell in love with this movie. If you have really watched this movie, you will understand that it deserves every Oscar award available, and it additionally deserves one for "Greatest Movie Ever Created." Each of the actors additionally deserve awards for their acting because they truly made the movie great. The only way we can make Hollywood great again is to make them only produce films exactly like this one: that is, this is the only film made that was worth making, so they should just keep making it over and over again.

This is a great inspirational movies ever
sonseuko6 May 2015
Totally worth to watch! Believe what you want to believe, don't believe in what you don't want to believe. If you believe there is nothing, you won't ever try to protect it. If you believe there is something, you need to fight to protect it. A good movie that really taught me to do good than what is right because what is right might not always good but what good will always be right. Human being is a mankind that can create a value to measure up someone, but being a good man is more than that. Almost all of us growing up with tradition, doctrine, all of that false value. What define someone isn't that. What define someone is still inside themselves, yep, their heart.

Sometimes you need to lose to win over something. Sometimes you need to protect something so hard before you give all of it to the right owner that you believe can take care of it.

Sometimes, you need to stop assuming by yourself just because there is something bad happened about it in your past.

More of it, believe in what you think is right, let God do the rest....

Here is a bit review from than might not really special ^^ Have a nice day~

Excellent movie for those who want to think!
catpaq-732-5566177 July 2013
I happened across this movie on TBN one night when it first came out. I was captivated and intrigued. I was captivated because of the love story embedded in the movie and by the conflicts posed by the characters. This movie debated and gave much thought to the pros and cons of abortion and parental rights. I was interested in hearing the arguments of both sides and listened intently. The arguments presented were not complicated but were based on common sense and truth. It is a film full of value for young minds as well as adult minds. The arguments presented can set the foundation for other controversial issues we face personally and as a nation. Highly recommend this movie to everyone for a full discussion on the controversial issues.

Worthy Film For The Ages
jpoland-7406929 July 2017
CWM was a heartwarming pic featuring impassioned acting by the young main cast. The romance was quite cute and the social issue discussion worthwhile and poignant. This movie definitely surpassed the standard low budget expectations!
