The LPs and this show ROCK sooo Hard!
orcinussr5 June 2021
Listen, I left a review after watching e1, and I'm finished now with S1 and my rating stands! DON'T BE HATERS - YOU MUST SEE IT THROUGH - because all the issues that these crap reviewers took umbrage with, are actually the crux and point of the show - PLEASE give it a chance, you won't be disappointed and if you are... at least you'll have been privy to some legit epic music -

Can More Men Explain Punk to Us
hendrixy620 February 2022
Is anyone else enjoying all the dudes explaining "what punk really is" in the reviews here? What a bunch of turds. This show is fun. It has a good energy. It's great to see another take on punk. Maybe this doesn't fit the male world's equivalent of what they think punk is, but that in itself is more punk rock than these dudes could ever be.

I did not expect to enjoy this but it's the best!
harrydugdale-1295921 May 2021
I was a 50+ white brit male with a boring afternoon ahead of me and something intrigued me about the name and I read the review in the Guardian and thought this might be a bit of fun. A good decision.

It is, amusing characters, sweet story, good and bad music but mainly lot of laughs.

AMAZING
niall-718044 June 2021
Yes I am a Muslim woman and sure I wouldn't do some of the things the girls did BUT SOME GIRLS DO. And that doesn't make them any less religious or make you "real" Muslims better than them. I liked that it showed multiple different types of Muslim girls bc I've seen all those kinds. I understand it may not be entirely accurate but it's refreshing to see the same old representation that we get which is just girls taking their hijabs off for a white boy. And stop with this real Muslims can listen to music, like why did you even watch the show?

Don't trust the "1" ratings and poor reviews.
TxMike3 June 2021
It seems this happens every time a new show comes out, a series of reviews pop up with "garbage", "don't watch this" and "I wish I could give it less than 1 star" types of comments. All of the poor reviews with a "1" rating are by accounts established exactly 4 days ago (as of June 3rd) and they each have exactly one review. Sound suspicious? Well it is probably one person with multiple IMDb accounts. At a minimum don't trust those at all.

This show came up on my Peacock app today, I watched the first episode where the star, a PhD candidate in college, is first interviewing prospective husbands at the insistence of her parents. She teaches music, the actress is actually a guitar player and singer. Then she has a chance to join a band that needs a great guitarist, but she has too much anxiety when on stage in front of others. However there wouldn't be a show if she weren't able to overcome it.

At first blush some of it seems a bit silly, no doubt a British comedy with British sensibilities, but I found myself being entertained. The more I got into it the more I liked it. I enjoyed the occasional "dream sequence" musical number inserted at appropriate places. I know nothing of the culture depicted here but it doesn't matter, the dialog is inventive, with a number of references to mainstream movies, and the whole show is appropriately "inappropriate." After seeing all six episodes I found myself wondering how it would play if edited as a continuous 2-ish hour movie.

There are only six episodes and each is about 24 minutes, just right for when you don't have 2 hours to watch a movie. Prospective views need to understand, however, the script writer loves salty language, especially the F-word, and often I found that a bit disconcerting coming from these young ladies.

All-in-all I enjoyed the whole series of six episodes, something quite different for me.

YESSSSS!! Girl Power!!!
tishlanemcc6 June 2021
I fell in love with this show 15 minutes into the first episode. The characters are refreshingly unexpected, complex, funny and endearing. (And the music rocks!) It's clear that it was written and directed by a woman. The world needs more shows like this. Whatever creator Nida Manzoor does next I'm watching!

Just Brilliant Telly
kylemew21 May 2021
This is some of the best British television I've seen in years, and it is wonderfully British. All the jokes land perfectly, and some made me laugh so hard I had to press pause.

To my shame I had not heard of any of the actors before but they are all extremely talented, especially the lead, who's portrayal of stage fright is so good it's painful.

Even the music is great: look out for the best ever punk cover of "nine to five".

I am also new to the work of creator Nida Manzoor, but will be keeping an eye out for her in the future.

In short , if you don't fall in love with Amina and her friends, you don't deserve to own a television.

Perfection!
Wistfull23 February 2022
Equal parts fun and cool, with surprisingly heartrending moments in between. The acting is wonderful, Amina's monologue in "Godzilla" being a particular high point.

I love how considered the visuals are, from set design to costumes to fantasy sequences. Apparently all the actors either already played their instruments or learned to play before filming, which adds a lovely authenticity. And the editing is so tight - despite a short runtime, each episode is packed full!

This series makes me feel like 15 again, in the best possible way!

This series is an absolute beauty.
mwrwazed8 July 2021
This series is an absolute beauty. A fun ride roller coaster with lots of humor, sarcasm, feminism, Islamic prohibition, and obviously friendship and family.

Just imagine 4 Muslim girls wearing hijabs and bourkha were played a rock song in a punk band, how it seems? Yeah, that's kind of interesting this series is. Moreover, this is a sitcom. I mean there's lots of comedy, or should I say situational comedy! And sarcasm and funs.

And all the characters are refreshingly unexpected, complex, funny, self-portrait and endearing. Girl's power, witticism, and obviously punk rock. The story and screenplay were good enough to engage the viewers until the end. And interesting, funny too.

The lyrics were too good. Acting skills, anyone could have stunned with their acting skill. The cinematography and the directing were good. The main fact is, I'm in love with this series. Thank you Nida Manzoor and her teams.

The show I've been missing out on my whole life
samambreen22 May 2021
It's not often I watch something that speaks to me and I wasn't hopeful when it started, but my word, what a treat! It manages to describe my experience growing up as a South Asian kid in a white world, how we're influenced by two cultures and never really seem to fit in either side but actually, we take on the best of both and can really go places with it if it's nurtured. It's a unique perspective and shows how good art transcends cultures and assimilation is inevitable, to varying degrees.

Excellent acting and writing, top tier humour.

Love that it is a mostly female cast, Muslim women's perspectives, especially queer and other marginalised identities rarely get such exposure, never mind with such panache.

Please let there be a season 2!

Bashir With the Good Beard
owen-watts16 July 2021
I'd been excited about Nida Manzoor's spirited punk comedy since the "comedy blap" pilot way back in 2018. The full series loses both Ritu Arya and a bit of the intensity but it still feels fresh and most of the joy comes from the vibrant ensemble cast. It treads the narrative arc of "aspiring band" fairly evenly but the focus gets a little thin when drifting away from either Amina or Saira. A little safe but unexpectedly filmic, deeply watchable and with some solid songs - here's hoping this is just the cautious Amina-style start of something a lot bolder to come.

Great fun!!!! Where is season 2, dammit?
clivejamesrd22 May 2021
One good thing about fun, you can't have too much of it.

One good thing about fun, you can't have too much of it.

Combine it with musical fun, and you feel no pain.

So many glowing reviews hear about this amazingly entertaining show, I will not run on and be repetitive. I'll say that Lady Parts are a lot more fun that the Spice Girls.

And I need to add that one of my biggest takeaways from watching We Are Lady Parts is my shocking realization that 6 episode series should be a crime. It's time to have 18 episode series as the new normal. .

In all right show, not great but not terrible
aj121820 June 2021
Lady Parts seems to have struck a chord in the Muslim community. Either they love it or they hate it, as you can tell by the 1 or 10 star reviews. The truth is that it is a slightly above show that is not great or terrible. The main cast does a good job, but the show does have to much narration. If you like the first episode you will like the series. If you don't like thebfirst episode you arent missing out. Give the first episode a watch and see if it is your jam or not.

Good effort but lacks writing
baka_land7 February 2022
As a muslim and someone who listens to metal, i think they could've been creative to clear the misrepresentation of the muslims and showed more of the progressive side, instead of making another stereotype, which doesn't really exists. I get the rebellious part but why does it have to be so cheesy, swearing a lot isn't punk nor does wearing a hijab makes one a muslim,. There are values which might be foreign to others but these values makes us muslim, instead of showing our culture, they misinterpret it to the point it was kinda cringe. Anjana Vasan's acting was superb but weirdly most actors aren't even muslim..

Quite funny and unique
idrincon10 June 2021
Can't imagine this show running in any network a few years ago. But this is 2021 and we can see little gems like this. Unique, funny, insightful, full of small punch lines that make you laugh. And the characters are quite interesting. Although they seem exaggerated, you can actually see them show up one of these days in the flesh. Recommended.

Absolutely hilarious!
jesuisayesha22 May 2021
Such a unique show and so enjoyable that I binged it all in two days and now I'm sad there's no more to watch! All the characters have such vibrant personalities and are incredibly likeable.

This show also had me in absolute stitches and I can't wait for another series!

Feel good comedy in the vein of Edgar Wright
breadhips16 June 2021
I'm going to focus this review on fello Muslims who are rating 1 star, the show is not making fun of Islam or is using Muslim culture as some sort spring board to make jokes, as the series goes on the topics get a lot deeper and a lot - A GREAT DEAL - of the issues brought up by most of the '1 star reviewers' here are expanded on appropriately. A lot of the 1 star reviews judged this show based purely on concept alone, brothers I truly believe if you watch this show you will appreciate it, or at least aspects of it. Its a positive depiction of Islam!! It's easily the best most researched show on Islam that is readily available to western audiences right now.

8/10, great writing and comedy, characters are deep n have a lot of story left in them. My only issue would be the speed of which is wrapped up towards the end, and the slight feeling of 'okay then' once it's all over, however the journey that leads you there is highly enjoyable and shouldn't be dismissed.

Also, the depiction of white people in this show is the funniest I've seen in a long time. I am a white guy and I laughed a lot!

One hell of a show
harelives26 June 2023
I actually had heard about this but never cared to watch sooner. I only wanted to watch this after the last episode of S06 of Black Mirror. Wanted to see her acting more.

I couldn't stop watching every episode after I started today evening. It's carefully crafted work. Not too long, no repeating stuff. Just in the line till the end.

Waiting for the S02.

And why IMDb doesn't allow posting this without 600 words? Has someone decided that it's the minimum no of characters a person can express a feeling for an amazing creation?

However, I'll be recommending this series to all of my movie loving friends.

Loved this! Want season 2
rdifalco7 June 2023
We loved this show! Husband and I watched it with 14-year-old daughter and it was fabulous! Really hope they come out with a second season.

The characters had depth and evolved, the music is not my style, but I loved it. Anyway, the lyrics were a lot of fun, and we enjoyed learning about other cultures. I'm definitely curious what Muslim women think of this show, or Muslim men for that matter. I feel like they introduced such a variety of characters from across the Islamic diaspora and each was in his/her own way, atypical from what others expected of them so hopefully no one felt typecast.

Please bring it back with season two!

I'm a fan!
dlsaltzberg12 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
And I'm NOT the demograph you'd think--white American female 65+.

Ten minutes into the first episode, I was besotted with Amina. Inner monologues, fantasies, head-thumping music, raunchy but right-on lyrics, men, women, parents (Amina's mom a stand-out). This showed me a variety of Muslim women (maybe not 100% factual, but EMOTIONALLY true) that I'd never seen before.

Fun. Irreverent. Creative. Refreshing. And the few tropes that are cliched--hunky man-candy begins to have feelings for our sweet geeky Amina, for example--are ravingly successful because they ground this show in the pantheon of television comedies.

Vital. Brave. How many other rapturous adjectives can I string together?

I want MORE.

bend it like beckham meets pussy riot
jazfro22 May 2021
This is a great coming-of-age comedy series. The timeless angsts of transition to adulthood are revisited from the perspective of a group of (mostly) young women of muslim descent, caught up between the pressure to conform to social norms and the curiosity to explore their own path. The characters and situations are keenly observed -you can tell that for creator Nida Manzoor, this is personal- and the humor is multi-layered, ranging from social critique, to girl-meets-boy sitcom, and slapstick.

The acting is consistently good and the characters are engaging and nuanced. The direction is good, the pace of the show is steady past the first episode. The punk music vignettes are good fun, too.

Overall an enjoyable comedy show with an original tone. 9/10.

Don't take it at face value
simbiat31 May 2021
As long as you do not take it at face value (as if it's portraying real modern British Muslims) it can be funny. If you try to look at it thinking that it's based on reality, you may feel a bit cringe. So... Don't.

Just amazing! This show has SO much!
yadaboy24 May 2021
I'm an older white American male. I have NO experience with British Muslim women in punk rock bands. Until I watched the first two episodes of this show I could not have fathomed that I ever could grok what they're about. Wow! This teaches me SO much, and it entertains me SO MUCH!! This is already among my favorite tv shows ever!

The story is great, and also funny. Really pulls you in. I hate the continuous narration. Really takes the mood away. I would've loved it much more if there were no narration.

abit exaggerated like Bollywood
m2ab24 May 2021
Felt like someone who didnt have much Islamic background made it and not many muslim raised from the west can relate fully but yes there is some connection just dindt take us home with it

the wardrobe was abit off especially with portrayal of Amina but rest of them I can see that works.

The niqab wardrobe could be better

still in middle of it .. lets see ho it ends :)
