A must watch..

He was a freedom fighter. However, to his party, his approach was neither quintessential nor nonparallel... and as it turns out he made the list of war criminals by allied forces...he traveled to many countries from Maldives to Singapore to Vietnam to Formosa - Taiwan, Germany to to Japan .. 3 commissions- Shahnaeaz (1956), Khosla (1970) and Mukherjee (2005) , each spent years and years and tons of taxpayers' money to denude the circumstances surrounding his death...even after 75 years, some critical secrets still remain classified... somewhere in the Indian government, there is an impenetrable, unaccountable power that no administration as of today has been able to bring the truth about the account of his life after his fraudulent death date to the public .. A tenacious cynical journalist on a mission to find the truth and unveil it .. somewhat run-of-the-mill performances and wished the commission sequence had continued in Hindi but well, a typical Bengali pomposity was evident after all :-) ... but overall great movie and very less known facts make it a must watch..

What worked: This movie deserves a praise and worth sometime considering the subject of the movie. The movie should be applauded for their work and choosing such a complex story. They also deserve praise for their interesting storytelling. The use of colored and black and white frame is commendable and the cinematographer has done some fine job in most part of the movie. So does the background score. It's often hard to make a movie with such complex character, often disputing the government and intensive hard work on the topic

What did not work: The songs especially at the end was a bore for me. Some of the camera work is weak at times. With all its technical flaws, it's still a very watchable movie Final verdict: definitely recommended

Every Netaji fan should watch it

It might not be 'The Tashkent Files' but is still a gem. Especially for me as it is about one of my all time favorite heroes. Even non Bengalis like me can enjoy the movie with subtitles. It is anyway beautiful to just listen to people speaking Bengali. But since there is also a lot of English and Hindi in the movie so the language factor doesn't matter much... Hope one day the truth about the true liberator of India will come out and hopefully we will stop worshipping false gods... Hope the tags of 'Mahatma' and 'Father of the Nation' will one day be taken off an 'Adharmi' Gandhi...

And kudos to Anuj Dhar for his passion and work...

Jai Hind... Long Live Netaji...

A must watch!

This movie is based on the book Conundrum, written by Anuj Dhar and Chandrachur Ghose. Anuj Dhar has also written India's Biggest Cover-up and What Happened to Netaji. For those who have read these books, the movie provides a visual representation to the facts and incidents that are mentioned in the books.

To those who have not read the books, this movie will give you a sense of the tremendous injustice meted out to India's greatest freedom fighter who sacrificed his entire life for his beloved motherland.

The movie is research oriented. Every statement stated by the actors about Netaji and various other Historical Characters are actually hard facts. The supporting story signifies what amount of work has been devoted into the research. I don't believe there was a better way to put this story. It will be unfair to rate this as substandard. And NO! This movie is not a "melodramatic hodgepodge" nor does it "lose the way after intermission". These reviews are misleading and mischievously done. Anyone even with a bit of spine left in them would love to face the truth about the fact that GoI lacked the spine to accept and give proper honor to "The Real Father of the Nation" and the "Greatest Son of India".

Brilliant movie

Just watched the movie *Gumnami*. It's a awesome movie based on the controversy of Bose's existence after 1945 . We always neglected Bengali movie and it's storyline for being such foolish but we have to admit that good movies didn't make a good financial status , that's why we only get foolish scripts . But this movie deserve respect and financial support also . Because this controversies need to be published as well as the political controversies . I highly recommend you guys to watch this movie and inspire our Bengali movies to make such good movies . #SrijitDa directed this movie passionately and #Projenjit and #Anirban has proved again how brilliant actor they are . Loved this movie , just brilliant . And grand respect to our great hero Netaji , he remained in controversies but I truly believe that he was alive till a long time , and he always lives in #WorldHistory and also lives in our heart

Some of the scenes will get on your nerves. Especially the ones having Anirban pelting out Salman Khan-ish dialogues to an antagonistic law official. The burning study towards the climax was unnecessarily overdramatized. Tanusree's later scenes were irrelevant. The drunk hallucination scene could have been handled way better. The crass humour there is jarring.

But withstanding all these flaws, go and give it a watch for Prosenjit's sincere and restrained act as Bose, Srijit's humongous research work on SUCH an important historical cover-up and for the brilliant music by Indradeep Dasgupta and team.

Not Bad, Not Good

Story is good , But direction and acting lacks certain things which could make the cinema more fantastic. The movie was going good until the scene Where Chandrachur lit all Netaji Books in frustration , this is where the cinema became excess dramatic. Also hindi speaking actors have Bangali accent in certain scenes ruines the show .. Overall informative and patriotic but Missing the depth.

The movie has disclosed various facts relating to the mysterious circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Netaji. The makers of this movie did a lot of research and due credit should be given to them for their efforts. However some scenes in the movie which delve into the personal life of Chandrachur Ghosh were somewhat unnecessary. The part where Ghosh gets up in the middle of the night wearing only his underwear and has a dream about Netaji is a bit offensive. When you are making a movie about a man who is a national hero it is expected that the makers of the movie should exercise restraint and bear in mind his honour and dignity.

It's time to open our eyes and shed a light on Netaji's misterius disappearance for the sake of his unconditional love for the nation and aggressiveness towards snatching freedom from Britishers, which was a major reason why he was cornered by India's top leaders, hoping freedom would come by spreading peace across the nation. How fool we were, are, and hopefully, will be.

Anirban Bhattacharya is very good as Chandrachur Babu...Prosenjit Chatterjee's acting is average...the plot is moderate...quite similar to the Bose Dead/alive web series. One time watchable movie.

Really Pathetic Movie

I have never been more disappointed with a movie than this one. A truly horrible film. And I really could not tolerate this over the top acting by Anirban. I am sorry Anirban for hurting your feelings if you are reading this review but I just had to express my honest opinion on this topic. I regretted buying the ticket barely 30 minutes into the movie. In conclusion, this movie is a melodramatic hodgepodge that truly does not do justice to the complicated story of the life of one of India's bravest children, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Gumnami might be a good film to you, it might be a bad film to you. But you cannot deny the fact Gumnaami is a very important film to the country. This is the most authentic movie about Netaji ever made.

The best thing of this film is its brilliant presentation. It's a very well researched film. I get to know so many things I've not any idea about. Prosenjit Chatterjee's portrayal of Gumnaami Baba made me emotional and forced me to shed tears in some scenes. Totally loved Anirban Bhattacharya & Tanushree Chakraborty.

All the songs were another positive thing of the film. This movie has something that made me search so many things on Google after finishing the film. I think this movie will remain with me for a long time. Undoubtedly, Gumnaami is one of the best work of Srijit Mukherji and A Must Watch For Every Indian.

A well written & researched movie about Netaji on his death controversy. The real freedom fighters like Netaji never got place which they actually deserved . It's unfortunate that truth is buried in the files till now, must be revealed.

While there is no denying that the film has waferthin politics and there's a questionable factual crisis, which was also evident in Srijit's last film 'Ek Je Chhilo Raja', but 'Gumnaami' remains a solid film with filmmaking prowess and it has been elevated by a taut script and it's leading star who is in very fine form.

Great son of great country! Its is shame on us that we have not given recognition to our true nation leaders like Netaji, bhagat singh, azad! The mysterious stay of netaji after 1945 is quite natural as he has evidenced worst thing as a patriot unlike other leaders who sacrificed thier life for the nation, he remained alive to see all this and therefore passed his life in exile!! About this movie- its a great great effort to showcase Netaji as actually who he was..Cant believe that movie of this high level was made and kudos to the maker and actors!!

Not in the Bengal Land, but, in Bengaluru, the show had only 6 audience in a multiplex. The movie is not worth it's hype and Subhas Chandra Bose image will make them earn some good bucks.

The movie concludes pressing about Netaji existence even after the 1945 Plane Crash. But, most of it seem to be just added up plots. No evidence will prove this Netaji Conspiracy, unless it is from the government(s).

But, still a good movie, but could had been much better. Especially if you are not a Bengali.

It was an amazing movie and its a must watch for all...no matter how many times you watch this movie...you will still enjoy till the end...great direction by srijit mukherjee...his style of direction is a masterpeace....he knows which frame is good or not...he has posted many valuable point in the movie for people to open their eyes and see the fact...great performance by the starcast...the character who played anuj dhar did a great work....its difficult for someone else to play the actual person who has been through so many hardships in life...hats off to all....may this movie a big success in the box office and hope it wins an award soon

"Very Slow Movie"

Very slow movie. In historical perspective it may be considered as okay. But, it doesn't touched me so much! It could be made better I think. Prosenjit acted well as usual. To know the history of disappearance & death of Netaji obviously you should go through it. :-)

This movie is not better as expected

This movie base on a UP State " Sadhubaba " that's name is " Gurnaami Baba " . But this movie didn't bring any strong evidence about gurnaami baba is real S.C.Bose . Their this movie saw ours government didn't want people know about netaji's death . That's a very real truth of ours country. That's director want people question Indian Government about this , it's very brave directing. As the movie story S.C.Bose a political prisoner in the " Russian Siberian Jail " . So how a political prisoner come out and this country full silent about this matter in this movie . How he run out from Siberian jail that's has no answer this movie . Otherwise gurnaami Baba hide in India acoarding this movie over 20 year that's no media known this matter it's very unexpected those no answer this movie . Overall this movie can't be answer S.C.Bose mystery just glow up ours interest about S.C.Bose last life .

Excellent Research Oriented Film

This movie has showed one of the biggest truth in simple words, that our so called independence was nothing less than an evil pact. It doesn't matter to me that Netaji died of old age but makes me sad that the newly formed independant govt of India didnt allow Netaji to meet his family, although JLN was a friend but who got serious headache when he heard Netaji is still alive.

And to some of the a$$hat reviewers here, who gave 1 and 4 stars to this film because it didnt live up to their expectation: Its a film about the Mukherjee commission hearings and the book 'Conundrum' by Anuj Dhar and Chandrachur Ghosh which revolves around the fact of Netajis mysterious death rumour ....... Anirbans acting is not important here. And if you think for a small budget film, directors needed to do extensive detailed actor selection + stunning VFX then you need a finance councelor for managing your budget.
