It's like Crash but from Wish
dward3120 June 2022
There's not much to say really as it just goes through the motions and fails to keep anything interesting. None of the characters are likeable and it's a film you'll forget overnight.

Terrible movie
mason251 July 2022
All 3 stars are for camera work. This was a terrible movie that made almost no sense plot wise or for character choices.

Anyone rating this higher than a 5 was part of the film crew or affiliated with production in someway.

The last third or so was basically a remake of American History X, but with Africans and Nigerians.

Completely average
crom-dubh24 June 2022
Not sure how anyone can say this is an amazing film. At the same time it is not without some redeeming qualities. But really there is nothing special about it and a lot that holds it back from being legitimately good. I'm only compelled to write about it because it seems like so far it is just people giving it 8-10 or 1-2, and it's absolutely neither of those.

The acting is mostly decent here. There are some performances that are better than others, but the acting is one of the thing that does stand out as being one of the better aspects of the film.

The soundtrack is another one that is pretty good. It is interesting and varied, and usually does a good job of enhancing the action. At times it actually feels like the direction and editing are not up to the challenge of matching the tension created with the music.

Unfortunately a lot of the other aspects are somewhat amateurish. The plot is potentially interesting but it is all just too quickly executed, and it doesn't seem like a lot of it was very well thought out. There are a few interesting characters but we never spend very much time with any of them and so we don't form enough of an attachment with them for whatever ends up happening to them to feel meaningful. The events of the film are meant to be tragic, but the tragedy is undermined by the fact that we probably don't really care much about these people.

It's rare that I think a movie should have been longer than it was, but I think that's the case here. If we had more time to develop the tension in the film I think it would have been more effective.

first 5 ratings...4 10s, one 8...all first time reviewers...
imizrahi200217 June 2022
Ever get the feeling you shouldn't believe too many of the ratings posted here because they're probably associated/invested with/in the film, itself... well...that seems to be the case with this movie...it's a shame, too...because how many movies do we see here coming out of South Africa...it would be great if EVERY country could afford to tell their stories with the wealth behind them that Hollywood has...not that it makes ALL that much of a difference in the quality...lots of GREAT low budget movies out there. From EVERYwhere... anyways...this has been a public service announcement...including to the administrators of imdb who can't do much about false reviews...

COMPLETELY WASTE OF TIME
xovinen22 June 2022
Please, if you have self respect, do yourself a favour and watch something else.

I did the job for you guys. Please don't do it to yourselves.

This movie is a bad, really really bad copy of Taken. The acting was awful and the script didn't have any cohesion at all. For real in some parts I thought I was watching two movies at the same time.

Slow and predictable
Kronaut27 June 2022
Well, the very first scene of the movie shows what's gonna happen in the end.

After that it's just one very slow build up with characters that are not likeable.

In the end there's five minutes predictable conclusion.

There's subplots that don't lead anywhere.

The production wants to tell us so much that everything just becomes uninteresting.

There's also me important messages but don't cram them all into in movie like this.

Crappy!!!
beso-langa2 July 2022
Short sighted Directing, novice storytelling and poor character acting. The residual of inconsistencies are splashed all over this film hoping it will resonate with great artistry. It's flawed from the start! A black gangster with a CELTIC CROSS? Really! Paul Haggis should sue because his masterpiece CRASH was plagiarized. When you typecast actors make sure they go the extra mile and bring more to the table during rehearsals. Might as well have a casting director asking vital questions like DO YOU HAVE BODY ART? This is a pertinent question because teenage high school students should not have tattoos! CRASH and COLISSION not only did they steal ploy but the title as well. This film is mediocre...

Sout African Film Noir
tim-93519 June 2022
Johannesburg, a city where the drugs are cheap, and life is cheaper.

Bright, posh girl, Niki, defies her loser father and snobby mother to date sexy singer, Larry. Meanwhile the middle level aspiring gangster, Bra Sol, is trying to set up trafficking deals.

The father daughter dynamic is further propelled by shopkeeper, Cecil, and his beautiful daughter, Palesa.

The three strands play out in intercut shots and sequences with mounting tension and violence leading to a tragic denouement.

The lights go out for the final scene in more ways that one.

This film describes the inter-tribal tensions of South Africa, with more than a whiff of corruption in big business. Whether this is true to life I am not equipped to say, but the exposition is well laid out. The story moves on with increasing pace as we see the tragic inevitability unfold before our eyes.

The photography and direction is good with the claustrophobia closing in as we reach the final moments of this hour and forty minute feature. It is no blockbuster with grand over paid Hollywood mummers, but is gritty, real, and emotional.

Worth a watch.

Probably the worst movie that I have watched all year.
warrenmlk-8588128 June 2022
Collision tries to do so much: an action film; a love story like Romeo and Juliet; a historical piece; social commentary... and it doesn't do any of them well.

I would say that there are four main characters, all horrible people; six minor characters, and only three of them have redeeming qualities.

I wanted to stop watching it after about a half hour but I kept going. Wasted an hour more of my life with that decision.

I think this is my first review... I just had to forewarn people to choose something else.

Obvious underlying currents
matthewmatt-1860621 June 2022
This movie is just a front for you can ONLY guess what,..You KNOW it isn't an Israeli gal who is being tossed around by the indiginous of South Africa,..It's an English gal of course and of course her father is an evil person and yadda yadda yadda,. The story is only a front,. That's why you don;t see any LOW rating because even dumb people KNOW why this movie was made.

Not perfection, bit definitely worth a watch.
peasem-9388829 June 2022
'Collision' does contain some rather pedestrian acting and arguably clumsy editing, but it has far more merit than a series of harsh reviews would suggest.

The opening device of presenting the final crash and the dark progression of events create a mood of bleak inevitability which is, in itself, a comment on the social and political plight of South Africa today. It's a borrowing of the late Renaissance 'Spanish Tragedy' concept in which the personal faults of the main characters combine with circumstances to bring about the final catastrophe. The fact that the audience can 'see it coming' creates a sense of helplessness among them.

It's a good effort - not perfect, but definitely not deserving of the 'put downs' it's receiving!

Really funny !
deeliz-2514523 December 2023
I've given this 7 stars because it's the funniest thing I've watched in a long time. Real belly laughs at the completely ridiculous scenario of planes hitting various objects and surviving to fly onward. The acting is atrocious but the comedy is superb ! I have watched many episodes of Air Crash Investigation so thought this fictional one would engage me, well it certainly did but not how I expected ! I hope the extras got paid well for sore butt syndrome after all that jiggling up and down during the turbulence because they really deserve it. If you're feeling down and need a good laugh then this movie is for you !

Cool thriller
jimsoundkiosk18 June 2022
Set in South Africa, this is a terrific thriller.

I enjoyed the South African dynamic, with the multi-lungual environment.

Given the 'posh' girl teen rebel element, I found this totally believable. I like all the characters, just far away from the usual West Coast/East Coast/London clichés we see too often. For me, at least, this is a thrilling and welcome change.

Better than the ratings suggest

Actions have there reactions in this story set against the backdrop of a modern evolving South Africa where the consequences leave the players with few victories pursuing there goals. Well worth a watch.

This film is deeper and more complex than it seems
sabhuynh18 June 2022
I'm not really into thrillers and crime movies, but I had to watch this film because its director, Fabien Martorell, is an old buddy from secondary school and I'm so proud he made it.

And although I'm not into thrillers, mainly because I'm a very sensitive person and that kind of movies tends to scare the hell out of me, not to mention the fact that I find fast-paced action-packed movies that are full of unexpected twists and turns hard to follow (they require a type of perception that I lack), I have to confess that I enjoyed watching Collision, mainly because of the interesting stories it tells about parents-children relationships, friendship, the social mess and corruption in South Africa, and the dilemmas the characters face. Of course, it's a bit of a pity these stories were not as developed as I would have liked them to be, but then Collision would have been a different movie, more of a psychological drama maybe, and probably much longer than it is now (1h 39min, which is a perfect length). Also, the violence is not crudely displayed (no graphic bloodshed) but hinted at and handled with subtlety, which shows respect for the viewers' sensitivity and intelligence.

At first, the film seems to be going all over the place, but don't worry, everything comes together eventually, and the story forms an intricate mesh that was skilfully woven... around a very strong final scene that takes place in a pitch dark Johannesburg.

I found the actors very convincing, especially Mpho Sebeng, who plays Thando.

On top of being suspenseful, Collision also contains funny moments (a lot of the film's humor rests on the shoulders of Thando, I loved the scene that shows Cecil and Thando getting high together on pot), as well as moving and poetic ones (beautiful - but too short - scene showing Palesa and her Nigerian boyfriend quietly dancing together at the back of his shop in a room filled with specks of light reminiscent of fireflies, while a violent riot is taking place right outside the door).

All in all, I think Collision is really worth watching: it is cinematic, aesthetic, taut, complex, multi-layered, involving and entertaining, with scenes that linger in the memory.

Well done to Fabien Martorell and his crew!

Great movie
lisadone16 June 2022
I saw it today, the tension is really good. The director handled the subject with accuracy. The acting and directing are amazing.

I couldn't recommend this film better than the dramas that are increasingly rare in the cinema, currently.

I Highly recommended.

Very True to S.A's climate
Kudacash16 June 2022
Gave us an intro that keeps us on the hook throughout the film, the social commentary is true to South Africa's current climate. Sound design was very well done music selection was on point and the way it was filmed was quite picturesque. The commentary on Xenophobia is also not too over done...

Social Commentary
nrgigaba16 June 2022
A teenager girl (Zoey Sneedon) is kidnapped by a gang lord (Vuyo Dabula) and her parents take to the streets to find her.

I think Collusion had the potential to be brilliant movie but the writing is all over.

The are two storylines running parallel to each other, the story of a kidnapping and xenophobia which don't connect to each other.

The ending of the movie could of been so much better tying the two stories to each other. Overall, it's a fun watch.

The film did not have a typical Hollywood ending, but that was why it seemed real and dealt with current issues that are going on in the works. I think it was good.

A gritty, real portrayal of the South African underworld
info-92263-7837717 June 2022
Collision captures the unmistakable yet confronting undertones of South African society. This film is a must see. Entertaining and a realistic glimpse into the lives of people caught up in life on the unforgiving streets of Johannesburg.

A great cast, visionary director who shows the not so glamorous life in the city of gold.

Eye-Opener
enaidu-2927117 June 2022
"A vision executed. Nail-biting action through lenses of realism by riveting performances from it's cast. "

Collision: the Netflix movie delivers on it's premise but provides so much more depth through it's thrilling storylines & characters. I'm always amazed by the quality of production to the Nth international scale. Can't wait for everyone to see this.

Hoping this movie is an eye-opener while praising the stunning visuals, compelling story, excellent performances & pristine production quality.
