Spoiler Alert! This story reveals plot point from the March 26 series premiere of Ride on Hallmark.
It takes place on a bucolic but cash-strapped ranch that’s operated by a widowed parent who loses a beloved family member in the premiere episode — all while everyone looks straight-up sexy in their Wranglers and cowboy boots.
But that’s where the similarities to Yellowstone end for Hallmark’s Ride, insists Sherri Cooper-Landsman, who showruns the new drama about a rodeo dynasty with Rebecca Boss and Chris Masi (Our Kind of People).
“For me, it was just this beautiful ranch setting with a family going through stuff that a family goes through,” Cooper-Landsman tells Deadline of Ride. “And to be honest, I hadn’t even watched Yellowstone, so I did not even think about that. It just was this beautiful setting and a worlds that Becky [Rebecca] really knew so well.

Death, deception and forbidden romance, right out of the gate? Hallmark Channel’s new rodeo drama Ride quickly ropes you in, so hold on to your horses! Like a Yellowstone with kinder locals and way less cussin’, this addictive tale centers on a Colorado ranching dynasty with deep roots in the rodeo circuit and close ties that bind them to their bustling stomping grounds. Co-creators and showrunners Rebecca Boss and husband Chris Masi had long been nursing an idea for a series that would capture their rural upbringings. While the couple worked on Fox’s glitzier Star and Our Kind of People, “[We] really wanted to write a show about families, for families,” affirms Boss. (Credit: Hallmark) And what a brood they’ve hitched their wagon to. The McMurrays read like the first family of fictional Canyon, Colorado. Eldest son Austin (Marcus Rosner) is a rodeo champion wed to former trick...

‘Ally McBeal’ Sequel With New Lead In Works At ABC From Karin Gist; Calista Flockhart Eyed To Return
Exclusive: Exactly two decades since David E. Kelley’s Ally McBeal ended its five-season run on Fox, the Emmy-winning legal dramedy starring Calista Flockhart is plotting a comeback with a sequel series, which is in early development at ABC, I have learned.
Written and executive produced by Karin Gist (Mike), I hear the new show will follow a young Black woman who joins the law firm from the original series (or its current incarnation) straight out of law school. The young woman is believed to be the daughter of Ally McBeal’s (Flockhart) D.A. roommate Renée Raddick, who was played by Lisa Nicole Carson on the mothership series.
I hear Flockhart has been approached to reprise her title role from the original in some capacity and to executive produce the follow-up. A decision on her potential involvement likely won’t be made until a script has been written.

Who would have guessed that we'd be waiting until the Fox are upfronts are underway to learn the fate of two of its most popular series?
In an exciting development, 9-1-1 and The Resident have landed eleventh-hour renewals at Fox.
Deadline revealed that the deals closed just ahead of the Fox upfront presentation at 4 Pm Et.
It truly was a nail-biting day for fans of both shows because Fox had renewed many lower-rated shows early Monday.
With the news that Fantasy Island Season 2 had been postponed from its planned summer launch to the fall, it seemed like Fox was prepared for losing one or both series.
9-1-1 is Fox-s highest-rated scripted series, and with the news that 9-1-1 Lone Star had been renewed, it was only a matter of time before the mothership landed a pickup.
The late renewals for both shows was a shocker, but the delay was more concerning for The Resident.

April showers gave way to May flowers, and April meetings among network executives led to the cancellations and renewals of existing broadcast series. Of course, there were plenty of nail-biter decisions made in May regarding CBS’, NBC’s, Fox’s, ABC’s, and The CW’s slate.
Find all of the cancels and renewals below. We should note here that not every cancelled TV show goes away on bad terms: Among the 20-something or so series we won’t be seeing again in the 2022-23 season, there were a few preplanned decisions — like the ending of NBC’s “This Is Us” and ABC’s “Black-ish” — that got mixed in.
You’ll notice we only focused on scripted series here. Sans a handful of perennial reality standouts like CBS’ “Survivor,” which has been officially renewed for Season 43, unscripted programming kind of does its own thing on its own schedule. Yeah, the...

The cancellations, they keep a-coming. Like ABC's "Queens" and "Promised Land," Fox's "Pivoting" boasts a 100 rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but that was not enough to save it or its network cousin, "Our Kind of People," from meeting the same fate as those two shows. Deadline reports that Fox has canceled both "Pivoting" and "Our Kind of People" after one season.
"Pivoting" premiered in January of this year, and it starred Maggie Q, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Eliza Coupe as three Long Island women coping with the death of their childhood friend. Per the official synopsis, their manner of coping involved hitting the reset button and pivoting to new life paths...

Well, this is a surprising turn of events.
Fox is going into its upfronts on Monday, with two of its most popular shows up in the air.
The network has renewed 9-1-1 Lone Star, Call Me Kat, Welcome to Flatch, and The Masked Singer for additional seasons.
The Resident, 9-1-1, and Duncanville have yet to formally land a pickup.
“We’re in good faith negotiations with [studio] 20th,” Fox president Charlie Collier told reporters Monday.
“Based on our long history with that company, we think we’re in pretty good shape.”
The renewals are coming down to the wire, meaning that we will get a decision at some point today.
This is a shocking turn of events that will leaves fans waiting with bated breaths for a potential pickup for the shows.
9-1-1 is the network's #1 scripted series, so the series has been a slam dunk for renewal all season long.

Fox has given a straight-to-series order to Alert, a character-driven police procedural from The Blacklist showrunner John Eisendrath and Jamie Foxx. The pickup was part of Fox’s upfront slate announcement for the 2022-23 season.
Written by Eisendrath, Alert had a script, format and back-up script commitment plus penalty at the network and is part of Fox’s script-to-series drama development track that has produced this season’s Our Kind Of People and next season’s Monarch. The project is a co-production between Sony Pictures Television, where Eisendrath is under an overall deal, and Fox Entertainment.
Alert is about the Lampu — the Los Angeles Police Department’s missing person’s unit. When police officer Nikki Parker’s son goes missing, she joins the LAPD’s Missing Person’s Unit to help other people find their loved ones, even as she searches for her own. Six years later, her world is turned upside-down when her ex-husband,...

Fox will have several established shows as part of its 2022-2023 lineup. The network has renewed 9-1-1: Lone Star (for Season 4), Call Me Kat (for Season 3), Welcome to Flatch (for Season 2), and The Masked Singer (for Season 8). This news comes ahead of its in-person Upfront Presentation. These series will be joining The Cleaning Lady Season 2, Crime Scene Kitchen Season 2, The Simpsons Season 34, Family Guy Season 20, Bob’s Burgers Season 12, The Great North Season 3, Housebroken Season 2, and Hell’s Kitchen Season 21 in returning to Fox next season. This news comes after the network announced on Friday that Pivoting and Our Kind of People would not be returning for second seasons. The Big Leap was previously canceled after its first season as well. With these latest renewals, that leaves 9-1-1 and The Resident‘s futures still up in the air. 2nd Update Sunday Pm: Last-minute efforts to close deals on 9-1-1 and The Resident renewals before Fox’s Monday upfront presentation have not been successful. I hear the two sides are not far apart on financial terms and the pacts will close in the coming days but likely not tonight. As we reported last night, 9-1-1: Lone Star‘s renewal is believed to be a done deal. 9-1-1 has been Fox’s top scripted series for several years.

Fox is clearing out some more series as it plans for the 2022-23 TV season.
The latest cancellations come in the form of freshman drama Our Kind of People and freshman comedy Pivoting. Our Kind of People launched in the fall with an A+ cast consisting of Yaya DaCosta, Joe Morton, and Morris Chestnut.
It was a sudsy primetime soap created by former mixed-ish showrunner Karin Gist and executive-produced by Empire's Lee Daniels.
The series didn't get the warmest of welcomes from viewers, averaging 1.3 million viewers and a 0.3 rating, coming in just ahead of the already canceled Big Leap.
While the numbers were far below what the network expected, it was a consistent performer, which can help shows eke out a renewal in this day and age.
A recent report from Deadline said that the series was a strong performer on the Fox-owned Tubi, which gave the network pause when it was considering canceling it.

Fox’s Pivoting will not be returning for a second season. The surprising cancellation comes after lengthy negotiations between the network and studio Warner Bros Television.
Pivoting, starring Eliza Coupe, Ginnifer Goodwin and Maggie Q, had been considered a strong bet for renewal. The fate of Leah Franklin Dupont may remain unsolved after Fox canceled freshman drama Our Kind of People.

It evoked comparisons to the Lee-co-created Empire, which had a very successful run on the network but linear ratings were soft.

While measuring the success of broadcast series has largely been a job for the TV ratings among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic, that total viewer tally is still powerful and not to be ignored.
With the end of the 2021-2022 season fast approaching, Variety has looked at 33 weeks of complete Nielsen data from September to May to assess what the most and least-watched primetime scripted series have been across NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox.
The below total viewer averages are season-long for each show and include persons over the age of 2, which is what Nielsen counts as a viewer. The totals are based on Nielsen’s “most current” data stream through May 8, which includes a week’s worth of delayed viewing where available.
For the “most” list, it is ranked beginning with the top show. For the “least” list, it starts with the weakest in the top slot and goes up from there.
