- A mysterious woman dares to challenge a man's dream with her reality.
- A modern-day fairy tale of a woman who dares to challenge a man who has kept his princess captive in a metaphorical tower. The battle between the prince and the princess is not with weapons, but a dance that could liberate her heart and mind. If the battle is won, her real purpose to escape will be revealed, setting both herself and her lover free. My desire to debut as a writer/ director was born of the need to reinvent the typical fairy tale that so often places the male as the hero. In my rendition, a prince is not needed to save an imprisoned princess trapped in a metaphorical tower. Instead, it's another princess with whom she joins forces to escape a world bound by control, manipulation, and restraint. The battle between the prince and the princess is without weapons. Rather, it's a TANGO battle that embodies the history of this traditional dance that was banned from the church because it's movements were deemed sinful. During those times, women who wore bright colors, or were beautiful, were considered to be too frivolous. The message in my revamped fairy tale is not about a woman defeating a man; it's a celebration of the love between the two princesses, albeit unconventional, but uniquely powerful. The bodyguard represents the figure of the dragon. However, in this case, he is an ally and not an obstacle. The secret password that is requested, "memento mori- Memento Audere Semper," means "remember that you will die- remember to dare always." This reflects the theme that even though we will all die, we have the power to push the boundaries of physical and mental death by daring to love, whatever that love is what propels us to take risk it all.
