Movie made of YouTube horror story stories
rochfordsimon31 March 2020
This film does not deserve a 1/10 rating. Its original in some shorts and meh in others. But enjoyable over all.

A collection of YouTube short horror films remade. Good selection.

The core of the story, the DJ is perhaps the chink in the armour.

I recommend to horror fans.

Death is how we make a living
nogodnomasters3 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Rod (James Wright ) hosts a late night call in for horror stories in Maryanna. He tells stories as does his guest callers. The tales consist of about 9 or 10 short features. These tales lacked the twists of "Creep Show" style stories and were definitely second tier. Note the 1980's period of the radio station and TV. Babcock Furniture advertises VCRs while some folks in the tales have cell phones. He speaks of the Internet.

If you get bored, you can always skip to the next feature.

Guide: No F-word. Nudity.

Its OK, nothing less or more
jessicartim25 March 2020
Hard to rate this anthology anything than middle 5/10. Its not bad, its competently made but, at least for me, non of the stories stand out much. Comparing to for example some V/H/S episodes that haunts me to this day, this was rather forgettable experience. Still decent ride for avid horror fan.

This movie wasn't horrible but it wasn't good either. The radio host character was absolutely abysmal. He tried so hard to be scary and suspenseful but came across as a piece of cardboard.

I only lasted 30 minutes and 2 stories into the movie. The 1st was completely nonsensical, boring. and not even remotely scary. The 2nd tried to have a punch but fell completely flat. It was a complete and utter snooze fest waiting for the completely anticlimactic ending.

I've seen up voting before but I'm surprised to see 800 possible fake accounts just to up vote this movie. Both of the written reviews are completely fake and you can always tell because they're so ridiculously over the top about how much they love the movie and then you watch it and realize there's no way that any real person could have thought that about THIS movie. In pretty sure they just cut and paste them from real movie review websites, made for different movies.

Imdb seriously needs to solve this problem.

6.5??? Really???
papadeltazulu27 March 2020
So this film has a 6.5 rating on here (at the time of writing) and I have no idea how. I watched this last night and it's appalling, yes I admit, i have seen worse anthology films but that doesn't excuse this awful film. The lead actor who plays the DJ is one of the worst actors I've ever seen, if he was any more wooden you could use him to build a fence around your garden. Yes the dialogue he's given is so awful that Robert De niro would probably have struggled to put in a convincing performance with it, but his line delivery and facial expressions are comically bad.

Speaking of the dialogue, it really does show the level of skill involved here when, in this day and age, the writer chooses to write lines like this.

Radio DJ takes a studio call from one of his female listeners.

Caller: Hi my name is Joanne DJ: Hey! you've got a sexy voice, what do you want to talk about today? Seriously, who wrote that, a horny 13 year old? It's awful, What radio DJ would address a female caller in that way?

The short stories range from so short and pointless that they have zero effect on the viewer, to dull and boring and they even throw in a foreign language segment because, you know, nothing makes and English speaking film more classy than a subtitled story shoved into the middle. It's so out of place. NONE and I mean this, NONE of the stories are scary, creepy or un-nerving and there's zero atmosphere to get wrapped up in.

The acting on the whole is absolutely abysmal, some of the radio callers voices are hilariously bad, the effects aren't too bad, they're not terrible and there is obviously some effort gone into them but it can't save this turkey.

I'm completely certain that the score for this will come down after a few weeks, as I do feel there's been a lot of fake upvotes involved here. I've given it a 1 purely for that reason. An honest rating for this would have been a 3, maybe a 3.5 but it's no where near a 6.5.

Not the worst horror anthology out there, it's not Creepshow 3 bad but it's about on par with another rubbish horror anthology i watched recently "XX" Avoid.

There's a middle ground
kosmasp12 February 2021
I totally understand if someone is not really on board with a film and sees a high rating that they immediately go the exact opposite route (or vice versa if you think a rating is way too low and you just plain dug a movie). But as I stated above there is a middle ground. And with an anthology movie you most likely have a mixture of stories - some will grip and some won't.

In some instances you might be love everything or hate everything of course, but if you remain open minded, you probably will select the stories/things you liked and the ones you didn't. And while life is probably not a box of chocolate (man that sugar rush would be quite something wouldn't it?), you can be assured that you will get a mixture of things. So while the quality may vary (I especially liked the spanish language one here to give one example, although even that had some minor things I disliked), this overall is more than a decent effort! If you are into horror short stories/anthologies that is

Something to watch when you are bored

Short stories with a base line that was supposed to entertain and keep you on the edge of your seat. I unfortunately did not care for the ending let alone the long build ups to nothing but lame scares.

Highly enjoyable and fun anthology effort
kannibalcorpsegrinder2 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Working at a radio station, a DJ spins tales of murder and the macabre for his listeners throughout the night.

The Good Stor(ies): Post-Mortem Mary-Living in a rural Australian village, the death of a neighbor's young girl forces a woman to bring her inexperienced daughter over to help prepare the girls' body for the funeral. As they go about their business trying to get her photograph, they find something sinister has taken over the dead girls' body. For the most part, this was a solid and enjoyable entry. The Gothic setting and rural locations are put to good use providing this with a great foundation to start in on the later supernatural hauntings after the body has been prepared. These are built up fantastically with a slow, foreboding menace the longer they show her attempting to fix the body for the photographs which is greatly enhanced by the unease she has performing such tasks including the positioning and eye resetting. The final twist is accomplished nicely in a wholly creepy sequence but in concept is way too obvious which is the only downside to this one.

Drops-Caught up in her studies, a determined dancer tries to balance practicing for her dreams while dealing with her relationship with her boyfriend and the other dancers at the studio. When the strange supernatural demon that's been following her starts to increase the severity of its connection to her, she realizes what she must do to be free of the creature forever. This segment was a solid and enjoyable enough effort once it gets past its flaws. As it takes a while to get the main setup revealed, the fact that she constantly succumbs to these weird pangs and outbreaks when nothing's around to cause them seems weird more than anything, but once we find out the actual cause add a dark atmosphere to the segment. The lack of explanation for anything does hurt this one somewhat as it's all implied information from a lived-in world, but this is still quite fun and creepy when it matters.

Into the Mud-Waking up in the woods, a confused and disheveled woman struggles to come to grips with the situation when she finds a mysterious hunter out trying to killer her. As she struggles to get to safety while he relentlessly pursues his target, a last-second reveal over their actual fates might change everything. Overall, this was a pretty decent segment. The bewilderment and confusion over the situation are quite appropriate which suits the series of chases and confrontations that emerge between the two which is a solid cat-and-mouse set up with the forest being used as a fantastic setting for it to occur. The creature feature twist is fantastic and works great, coming off as a wholly original surprise that affords this one some solid make-up effects work not only on the creature but the strong and impactful gore as well. Though there's very little to no dialogue to make sense of anything, there's a lot to like elsewhere here to raise this one up.

Vicious-Returning home after a late-night, a woman feels extremely uneasy about the situation and tries to find the cause of the disturbance which will soothe her troubled sister. Aware of the real dangers that lurk inside, she tries to figure out the cause of the incidents while protecting her sister and herself. This was quite an enjoyable and chilling segment. The first walk-through the house, as she's looking for whatever disturbed the house, manages to create a fine creepy air here with the deliberate movements and drawn-out atmosphere which dives into the later scenes of them together helping to unravel the mysterious setup. The demons appearing are creepy and inherently startling when they appear with their deformed and inhuman appearance that contributes greatly to the jump-scare machine that follows. While the final outcome is predictable, the rest of this is enough to overcome it.

The Bad Stor(ies): A Little Off the Top-Meeting up with his favorite client, a maniacal hair-stylist tries to get her to see the situation through his eyes but is entirely unsuccessful at the endeavor. Faced with no decision left, he turns to his impulses to mete out the proper punishment for his irrational beliefs. There really isn't a whole lot with this segment. The contraption that holds her hair in place is an inventive and chilling torture device with a great look to it, yet the incessant dialog about the history of hair-care and what they're relationship has turned into over the years drains so much life and energy from the segment that it's hard to really care. The nature of what he's doing doesn't make any sense as it's hard to get invested in his plight of caring about hair that much, and the bland torture-porn outcome has some brutal moments but is again quite expected, leaving this a rather routing segment.

The Disappearance of Willie Bingham-Starting up a new job, a supervisor at a local prison sees it fit to institute a program authorizing the butchering of criminals through surgery to recompense for their crimes. As he continually loses more of his body in the process, the toll of the situation starts to affect both of them. This one really could've been much better than it was. The idea of what's happening here is an exceptionally original and creative way to treat prisoners in a cruel warning matter by dismembering the prisoner for the crimes he committed. Trotting him out to warn others against others following in his footsteps is a great idea and the commentary on the situation is rather nice, but none of it's scary with all the focus on the wrong individual where we see it from the supervisor along for the case rather than the torment of what he's going through in the surgeries which is where the horror comes from. That's what holds this one down somewhat.

Nightmare Radio-Working at a radio station, a DJ talks with his listeners as they tell their own horror stories during the show while he recounts with tales of his own. As he continues his shift and a prank caller gets on his nerves, he tries to make it through before anything out of the ordinary happens. This is a solid enough outing for this one. The concept for this is a fantastic excuse for setting up an anthology of this format, the rationale for telling stories is fine for this kind of outing and the atmosphere of the situation and there's a fine undercurrent to the setup of the show. The fact that he continually cuts off the listeners and acts arrogantly to them with the feeling that their stories are lame while his are better and scarier makes him an unlikeable prick throughout here making it hard to get on his side which is needed for the final reveal. The interstitial stories aren't that bad but it's somewhat disappointing overall.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, Full Nudity and children-in-danger.

Diversity and Quality. What more do you want from an anthology?
peterp-450-29871622 April 2020
Are you a fan of horror anthology films (such as "Tales from the crypt", "Creepshow", "Tales of Halloween", "XX" or "Tale of Tales")? Well, you might as well like this movie. Provided you are not an avid lover of short films and continuously seek for horror short films on YouTube or other channels. Because then it may well be that you've already seen a few of the films that are used in "A Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio". This anthology isn't a collection of newly made short films. It's a collection of pre-existing short films. And these are all connected with each other through a central storyline with DJ Rod Wilson (James Wright) who broadcasts a night program on some local radio station. A program in which he (and also a few nightly callers) tries to delight listeners with some chilling and creepy ghostly stories. It's not Halloween yet, but it would be a suitable movie for that period of the year.

Frankly, I thought the beginning of the film looked very promising and exciting. The first short ("In the Dark Dark Woods", a sort of alternative version of "The Invisible Man") and the introduction of the bearded, radio guy gave me a taste for more. And when the second short story (highlight of the whole movie and my absolute favorite) was over, I was already getting ready for even more of that. "Post Mortem Mary" isn't only fantastic in terms of content. The handling of the camera, the way in which the story was portrayed and the ever-rising suspense in this excruciatingly exciting short story, produced a very successful end result. It's the story of a mother and her young daughter Mary earning their living in Australia in 1840 as post-mortem photographers. The idea is to photograph the corpse as vividly as possible. Something Mary has yet to learn. It's a fantastic short film that was well received at some festivals in 2017 and won some prizes worldwide. An eye-opener for sure (no pun intended).

Unfortunately, none of the subsequent stories reached the same level as the previous short films. Not that they were awfully bad or of a sadly low level. But "Post Mortem Mary" is head and shoulders above the rest. "A little off the Top" is a bit of a sinister story that focuses on the insanity (Or craftiness. It's just how you look at it) of a hairdresser. "Drops" demonstrates how a traumatic experience torments a Spanish young dancer. I thought "The Disappearance of Willie Bingham" was kind of successful. A somewhat different story about how a death penalty is converted into a more alternative punishment. In my view a fairly funny story. "The smiling man" undoubtedly deserves a place behind Mary's story. Concise and terrifying at the same time. Without too much fuss. The final short films "Into the Mud" and "Vicius" were, in my opinion, the weakest ones.

The fact is that by making a selection of existing short films in "A Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio", the quality level is very high. None of the stories gives you the feeling as if they were quickly produced, such that the intended playing time of the feature-length film could be reached. Another advantage is that the movie scores well in terms of diversity. There's something for everyone. Only "Into the Mud" (a kind of mythologically oriented fantasy story) feels a little bit like the odd one out here. The only downside was the overarching story of the DJ himself. First of all, I didn't think it was convincing enough. It even felt a bit boring. And the denouement was a bit of an anti-climax. Yet to my surprise, I enjoyed this movie more than I expected. So if you feel like hearing some scary, paranormal stories with a lurid touch, then you'll be fine with this film.

Not exactly the best of horror anthologies...
paul_haakonsen1 October 2020
I was given the chance to sit down and watch the 2019 horror anthology "A Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio" here in 2020. And since I hadn't already seen it, nor even heard about it, and it being a horror movie, of course I managed to find the time to sit through it.

Well, I must say that "A Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio" was not exactly an outstanding nor memorable addition to the horror anthology genre. 90% of the segments were just so bland that they came and went without leaving a lasting impression. In fact, it was the first story that turned out to be the most interesting and watchable, so anything beyond that is just filling. As for the narration story that ties the stories together, well...

I will say that the narrator, Rod Wilson (played by James Wright) was actually interesting enough, and that was especially because of James Wright's performance.

If you enjoy horror anthologies, then there are far better choices available out there. ""A Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio" was just not cutting it, nor bringing enough interesting contents to the table.

I am rating "A Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio" a mere three out of ten stars, given the fact that the majorities of the stories were just bland or downright pointless.

Where Did You Get These Short Videos?
alicevexed7 January 2021
I've seen a ton of these shorts on YouTube years before this movie came out. I mean the film is okay but I do not see any credit given to the original creators of the shorts and no names are matching up between the names of said creators and the names listed on this page. I mean the one with the little girl and the balloons? The Smiling Man by A.J. Briones. And the crazy hair dresser with the extension shop? A Little Off the Top I saw it a while back. I do apologize if I missed something and feel free to call me out if I did but I'm a little suspicious here...

The gushing reviews have to be fake this is mildly bad to OK
YRLY59E4 April 2020
This is not a 10 star movie. This is a 4. A few average stories, a few bad ones.

The best is the Russian subtitled one. Luck perhaps as they probably threw in a foreign language one for diversity. The rest are at most average. I'm not gonna review each segment I only am leaving a review so someone doesn't watch this expecting 10 stars.

The radio studio segments were not too good, not so much the acting but the inane writing. The whole radio studio segment is a borrowed adaptation I saw in one of many other horror anthology movies or shows but I couldn't place where, I spent more time trying to figure out where I saw it used before than caring about the bad stories.

The old music they use is by far the best thing in this movie.

I feel like this was a pretty good analogy or is it anthology yeah the second one of short stories. It was low budget and yes the DJ leaves somethings to be desired but as a horror movie fan this isn't an 1 movie at all.

Absolute junk
mjsreg29 March 2020
There is no way the rating of the movie here (currently 6.4 at the time of writing) is genuine. Obviously the producers (or whoever) have got friends and family to up the ratings.

This movie is terrible - right from the opening credits to the end.

The acting (for the most part) is awful and lacks direction, and the stories are ridiculously predictable and terribly executed.

Don't bother with this one. You'd be better off having your teeth pulled for entertainment.

Nifty horror anthology
Woodyanders13 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Radio disc jockey Rod Wilson (smmothly played by James Wright) hosts a popular horror-themed late night show. On a dark and stormy night Rod receives strange calls from a scared little boy who desperately asks for help.

The stories featured herein are as follows: An invisible woman goes on a rampage (strong opener), a little girl takes a photograph of a dead girl (marvelously unsettling), a vain celebrity gets special treatment from a hair stylist (spot-on nasty punchline), a Spanish dancer is terrorized by a demon (solid), a little girl encounters a creepy smiling monster in her kitchen (another supremely unnerving tale), a redneck hunts a naked woman in the woods (great gory twist at the end), a young woman faces off against a demonic home invader (strictly so-so), and Rod Wilson turns out to be a very bad man (cool and genuinely surprising). A gnarly omnibus opus.

Decent anthology horror
aronharde20 January 2024
A Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio starts off with a radio DJ that tells creepy stories and occasionally gets called from a horrified young child. Each story is a segment of this movie since it is an anthology movie which I didn't know when I turned it on, but it was definitely a pleasant surprise since I like anthology horror movies.

Rod, the radio DJ has a stylish look with some nice pink visuals and lights in the background but that didn't distract from the fact that his acting was not that good and I think that his story, which the movie revolves around was one of the weaker segments. In general the segments were all decent. I think none of them stood out to be really great but also none of them were really terrible, probably because each segment was rather short. I had seen one of the segments on YouTube before called "The Smiling Man" which was surprising to me. I think if you like anthology horror movies you might enjoy this one but don't expect it to be in the same league as V/H/S 1 or V/H/S 2, set your expectations a little lower and you will have a good time with this. Bad movie. PLain and simple. Clearly the good reviwes are fake, as ususal.

It's filmed to dark and not well. But here's the weird thing. This movie has nearly 12 minutes of credits at the end. TWELVE minutes? That's like a pretty hefty percent of the total running time.
