Subject chosen is an apt one and is the need of the hour, but the presentation extends for about 160 minutes which tests your patience. Lengthy dialogues and mundane music.

Vazhakkam aana social message subject,
Stylish negative role, usual arai-kurai role for actress,
Climax speech and fight - ipdi elaamea clìche dhaan. But the screenplay treatment made me to sit throughout the movie, without yawning!
Sonna vidham inum nalla irundhirukalaam. Aana sonnadhu pudichadhu.
The usual family entertainment is not there, which will disappoint SK (as they call him) fans. But, it's good to see him having a fairly less important role than our Action King ! Hero irundhaa Gentleman um irukanum.
Not so much to celebrate, rather a slight disappointment from a man who gave us IrumbuThirai. Still, it's not a slop either. Could've been better..
Definitely watchable in theatre.
First proper Superhero origin movie from Tamil

Well first things first, Plot is the real Hero of the movie. The movie had an original plot and environment setup which every Indian can relate to.
Technically also, no or only little compromises has been done. Cinematography is at top notch, only next to Super deluxe. Screenplay is slow (which most of the superhero origin movies are) yet gripping.
Bgm score elevates and emotes well for almost 90% of the movie. Songs are kept just to please the fans except Hero title track.
Character arc of main characters were likable and relatable too. Heroine, at first seems to be a typical Indian movie kinda heroine but she had her role in shaping up the lead character.
Arjun's acting was top notch and nailed it. He looks more fit, younger and stylish than Shiva. He carried his role so perfect and easily.
The villain role played by Abhay deol seems to be the mere personification of Indian education system, created the impact which it has to be.
To speak about negatives, there were few logical errors, some over the top unbelievable scenes, poor design of the Superhero costume and accessories, and Shiva's acting itself. Shiva's struggle to emote the character can be seen at many scenes. Even though, this was one of his best acting performance.
Tldr; Worth to watch.

Though the story was going to be a fight against corruption, this movie had some proper content in the form of scientific inventions instead of just preaching messages throughout. Though there were places which presented the cliché revolutionary feel, the way the director had used inventions and discoveries to combat the existing Indian education system was appreciable as a good level of research was put into it. I wouldn't recommend it a must watch movie, but is definitely a more than decent movie which you can give a try.

Sivakarthikeyan's "Hero" is about the Indian education system and gives impact dialogues about importance of questioning and disruptive innovation. But the movie goes on a rant about this rather than coming to a concrete conclusion. That is the major drawback of this movie. The climax was pathetic and looks old-fashioned where the 'Mask' gets people's support immediately after his 10-minute advice to people. That could have been avoided. Its a good one-time watch for its dialogues.

Is it just me or are there too many message-movies coming out lately? Hero is an exaggerated attempt to kickstart a wave of superhero films, a genre that's yet to strike gold in Tamil cinema. But director P S Mithran seems to have forgotten that conventional mass leads in Tamil cinema have always been superheroes - they can do the unthinkable, they can beat up fifty thugs single-handedly, they look like average Joes but woo women who are always out of their league, and they can deliver preachy monologues on how everything in this world is a buzzkill.
Hero doesn't necessarily break new ground in that context. It asks relevant questions (like many other films before it) about the education system followed in India and how innovation is forcefully halted at the grassroots level. But the overdramatization of proceedings in the screenplay and the director's insistence on not doing away with clichéd elements such as a tepid romance track featuring Kalyani Priyadarshan that doesn't add anything to the film except extend its run-time (she's almost completely absent in the second half), a wronged supporting character straight out of Shankar movies (played by Action King Arjun Sarja who can still throw punches even while crippled), and a stretched first half that fails to fire on all cylinders.
When the film eventually gains pace in the second half, you're left to feed on a steady diet of technical mumbo-jumbo (such as ham radio walkie talkies, crawler cams, laser sensors, hacking into satellites, and lots more) that doesn't sit well with mainstream audiences. On the other hand, you have decently shot (but repetitive) action set-pieces that take place in the dark. Songs and BGM, a Yuvan effort, does not elevate the film much. The sermon on 'rough notebooks' at the end was both laughable and relatable at the same time. Hero is a film with more flaws than pluses and that makes it a tiresome 160-minute watch.

In this movie it tells a message about the education system nowadays the message was good.
The first half of the movie was above average with some predictable scenes
And the second half was not up to mark and it doesn't give that much awesome superhero fight sequences
Technically movie was good
Overall the movie is average but it's not a perfect superhero filim

Hero is a movie which has a good concept but the excecution of the screenplay is a letdown.The first half was good with some good scenes (above average) but coming to the second half,it became more boring and a lagging script made it a letdown and second half was big predictable too.The songs are not upto the level too.Overall,nothing fresh/good in this movie.Hero falls into an average attempt.

A movie that everybody should watch. The movie has an amazingly deep story and so far the best movie ever made about education system. Everyone should watch this film and Student should know that if you fail on exams it doesn't mean that your life has no value.
Hero is not a superhero film but a social issue-based film

Superhero films haven't been successful in Tamil Cinema and we had only a few films that came in that genre so far. We can probably say that Tamil cinema doesn't need superhero films because our larger-than-life star's films are equal to that genre. Adding to this, PS. Mithran's Hero is the most recent superhero film in Tamil. Is Hero really a superhero film? Well, unfortunately, it isn't. Why? Well, the film has more social messages than superhero elements. Sivakarthikeyan plays the main lead Shakthi who is a fraudster at first sight and superhero later in the film. His character is not that heroic except in the climax speech. Performance-wise, Hero is a very decent film for Sivakarthikeyan because he has very little scope to perform as an actor. Honestly, the film's real hero is Arjun. Well, he has reprised his role from Shankar's Gentleman and played it effortlessly. His performance is worth watching and his role is definitely impactful in the narrative. On the other side, we have Abhay Deol playing the main antagonist with so much style and attitude. He is definitely a strength in this film. Speaking about Yuvan Shankar Raja, his album might be disappointing but his background score is a huge energy booster. PS. Mithran makes films similar to that of Shankar and A.R.Murugadoss. He is playing with the commercial format and adds a strong issue to make it more relevant to the audience. Fortunately, it works in both of his works, Irumbu Thirai and Hero. Well, Hero has strong content but takes too much time to get into it. We have an unnecessary love track and not so hilarious comedy track that doesn't fit into the film's first half. It's only after the interval that we get the actual conflict of the film. Hero feels less engaging than Irumbu Thirai because it focuses more on establishing the character's backstories than the actual conflict. Sivakarthikeyan has a backstory to justify his acts and Arjun has a backstory to introduce who he is actually which feels like taking too much of the film's duration but Arjun's backstory is worthy. The superhero factor comes only in the last 30 minutes which is a major letdown. Moreover, PS. Mithran has focused more on the social issue than the superhero factor which could have been equally balanced. Overall, Hero is not a superhero film but a social issue-based film.

Movie is very sorry too too lengthy and same msg has been said again and again showing the lack of pushing the movie... Arjun is the only relief in the movie apart from that nothing have worked out

Dir- PS. Mithran seems to be an interesting director to watch out for. His previous film, IrumbuThirai and this film are timely messages to the society, and there's this hero ( Even this film is a kind of Disruptive Innovative Idea! Knowledge is always power but position buys power and even more! ) it's Arjun who's the centre point for this story) who wants to fight against it.
Special mention should be given for Mithran in recording the real life inventors and putting them in post credits.
it is not fully super hero movie oriented.
George William's cinematography is top draw.
Arjun shows yet again why he is still not past his prime. Abhay Deol looks good in his suits and in his Roles & Ivana does a neat job.
Negative - * Siva Karthikeyan isn't convincing in this ambitious role.
* Yuvan songs disappoint but his BGM was pretty good.
* Screenplay was good but does not have many layers or emotions.
Finally A solid story portrayed in a very matured and sensible manner! Don't Miss it Guys!!!

Think that most of the audience doesn't understand this movie. After watching this movie it kept me thinking that what should want in my life. The movie is good in every way. It's technically brilliant. SK and everyone good.

Expected a lot from the director after his blockbuster IRUMBU THIRAI!
The strength of Irumbu Thirai was the villain. That's the problem here for HERO This film lacks of content and a very weak villain with no logic.
Songs were really bad by U1! Not to say bad it's not good either!
6/10 one time watchable family entertainer.

Targetted at our education system.
Fabulous content, fantastic execution, 1st half was like just wow😍, 2nd half could've been better, but overall a very engaging edge of the seat commercial entertainer after a very long time 👏👌

Arjun was probably the best thing that happened to this movie.
If you are a Marvel fan, this may remind you of the rise of Iron Man or technically any other superhero movie. The only thing is that the execution of the story could have been better/more believable/more engaging. It felt as if even the actors were not convinced of the story. But Arjun ad Abhay Deol are excellent actors, no doubt. If anything, watch for Arjun and Abhay. Absolutely stole the spotlight.

This movie was spoken to be a sequel to super hit film "Gentleman" which had a theme, that talented youngsters with high marks are not getting seats due to reservation. Now since there is 10% reservation given to economically backward OC, the theme in Hero is changed to "Marks does not count as talent"
The whole point of saying, "Aspiring to become a doctor or engineer is of selfish motive, but to become a super hero is of public interest" does not go well with reality. So, does the director want the people to give away education and work on becoming a super hero without marks is a big question. It is kind of saying, "British education system has made us slaves, so let us go back to Kulakalvi and learn only one profession and leave education to particular segment of the society alone"
The heroes of this film both Arjun and Sivakarthikeyan advocating for a new education curriculum, do not indulge in any legal works, but complains that the current education system has not taught good manners, morals and confidence. Students without basic understanding of science are able to create any machinery is unacceptable. While the whole state of Tamil nadu is protesting against NEET, the antagonist is running a college which does not take NEET into account for medical seats.
Some of the activities of the thugs of the antagonists are totally stupid and nowhere near to reality.
Stunts are very normal, not like what you would expect in a superhero movie. And that too comes very late in the movie.
And the heroine is not necessary for this movie.
