Looked forward to viewing this show.
Originally story was told on Season One of "I Shouldn't Be Alive" Episode "Shark Survivor". Have to say I thought their telling was much better. Also survivor Deborah Kiley wrote a book of her experiences.

Watch "I survived..." featuring Meg instead

This story is featured on the show "I survived" with Meg and is thrilling and terrifying without all the Hollywood drama and the diversion from actual events. I'm disappointed the screenwriters felt the need to fabricate or embellish the truth in order to create a drama. If they had stuck to the facts, it is a great lesson in how to be a sailor, sharks, and survival.

I really enjoyed the Animal Planet I shouldn't be alive version so, I was really interested in this version. I didn't mind looking at pretty people as the actors. There was several times I gripped my seat. They cut lots of gripping stuff that actually happened but, did a good job with what they included. Like the girl going crazy before she died. But, all things considered if you liked the ISBA version this is certainly worth the view.

I was really looking forward to seeing this. I really expected so much more from Discovery. There are so many parts of this dramatization that are so far off base, it was almost comical. No captain worth his salt would encourage someone to "stay in the water" because the air is colder. Nor would he ever apply a tourniquet to a viable leg to prevent infection spread. You could've done so much better.
What's with the bad reviews?

I almost didn't watch it because of the really bad reviews. I don't think this movie is so bad. First, it's based on a true story so that's always interesting and second it just wasn't that bad. Sure, it's not an Oscar winner but in my opinion, if you liked the movie "Open Water" (2003), then you're probably going to like this one. Now, I don't know how much money was spent on making this film but keep in mind that even though Josh Duhamel is starring in it, it's not your typical Hollywood big budget type of a movie (so don't expect it to be a fast paced thriller with big special effects). It has a low budget movie feel to it, kinda like "Open Water".
The only problem I have with this movie (CAREFUL: serious spoilers ahead!) is how accurate is it really? According to the movie, Deb and Brad survived five days on the open water. I'm somewhat confused as to how they managed to survive this long without water. From what I know, human can't survive longer than three days without water, right? I mean, isn't it what the rule of threes all about? Three minutes without air, three days without water and three weeks without food. So how did they survive? Did they drink their own urine? Was there rain or dew or some other form of water that kept them alive? Or maybe the rule of three is inaccurate and they really did survive the full five days without any water? Also, they only got into the raft when they realized the water is infested with sharks. They said they didn't do it earlier because of the cold air but that wasn't mentioned again. They didn't seem to suffer from cold so what was that about? Some reviews mentioned that the movie is different than the true story but according to Wikipedia and other stuff I read online, it's not. At least I couldn't find any differences. So again, how accurate is this film? That's my biggest issue. Other than that, I'd probably tell people to give it a shot and just watch and see if they like it or not.

Shame on me but I never watch Shark Week. I have nothing against it but it's just not for me. A friend told me I should watch "Capsized: Blood in the Water". She liked it a lot. I liked it too. I thought a was a very tense movie. It's also tragic because it's a true story. It did remind me of 2003's "Open Water" but it's a lot better. "Capsized" is well acted and moves quickly. Despite its limited budget, this movie packs a punch. I think the reviewers on IMBD are being too hard on it. "Capsized: Blood in the Water" is worth a watch.

Just a bad movie period. Bad dialogue, bad acting, bad effects. Just bad. I know it's based on a true story and I'm sorry for those that were lost, but the movie just didn't make you feel particularly compelled by or sorry for the characters. Josh Duhamel is a good actor not sure why he signed on to this project. The movie did not educate people about sharks or dispel any myths about sharks which is what shark week was, is suppose to be about. You could do so much better Discovery Channel..

I was really looking forward to this movie because I'm a long time Sharkweek fan, but this movie truly disappointed. The acting wasn't particularly good even with Josh Duhamel who is a great actor. The story is supposedly "based on true events," but it differs in many points with one huge difference so it's really inspired by. The effects with the sharks were particularly good though and looked very realistic. I saw Shark After Dark where they showed some behind the scenes and it was interesting. The effects for the injured crewperson, in reality there was more than one, were not particularly convincing and looked more like bad makeup. I think more time could have been spent developing the time in the water as it was forced and haphazard. Regardless, Sharkweek is awesome, so it's a must watch. The shame is that the Meg movie (Sharkweeks' not the one with Jason S) from a few years ago was far better even though it got killed by reviewers. It's worth watching from the standpoint that it was a true life and death struggle with emotions of sadness, dispair, survival, and inner strength.

I thought this was an overall good movie. A definite slow burn of a film, but a well done movie overall. One thing I kept yelling at the screen was, "Drink your Urine! Cause you know they had to pee while they were on the ocean that entire time!" The end was definitely a point of intensity! A good, heartfelt, intense true story movie that I would definitely recommend!
One criticism is, I would have liked to have seen more about the actual people in the end.

I am very familiar with this amazing true story from 1982. Unfortunately, the film makers decided to spend their budget on high-priced good looking actors, rather then getting the facts straight or the special effects.
Animal Planet did this story much better.

They put a guy whose clearly drunk in charge of monitoring the coast guard channel for storm updates, he also wants to sail directly INTO the storm to reach land just pick up a piece of a$$...
All of the characters wait literally over 30 minutes all hanging onto the OUTSIDE of a perfectly seaworthy life raft instead of getting in the damn thing ...
The drunk takes off the tourniquet of a girl whose leg is gushing blood from her thigh, probably has a severed artery and throws it into the ocean all because she is screaming her head off and apparently that is "attracting " the sharks ...

Another survival horror movie with sharks. But it's a true story that doesn't go where you think it will and had me crying tears of joy and sadness at the same time. It's a really good film. I really liked it.
Essentially, a group goes out to sea on a yacht, the yacht capsizes and they are stranded on a dingy without food or water, and are being tailgated by sharks.
Gosh, open water is scary.

Take every mistake/cliche you could make running a boat. Add a novice and a drunk. Throw in a freak storm and bad acting, and you have this film.
The only good part was that I had recorded it, so I didn't waste 2 hours of my time.

If you're going to attempt watching this movie, you're patience will be tested.
It's one of those movies that you feel like you have to go ahead and finish watching it since you already invested so much time into it. But what you keep waiting for, won't do much for the disappointment you've been experiencing all along.
This is a long drawn out movie that was made even more of a slow burner since I watched it LIVE during it's Aug 19th, 2020 TV airing, which meant no skipping those pesky commercials.
The acting was... alright, nothing that's going to win any awards or something, but it was ok. The storyline was fine, it's based on a true story, but that's also where the problem lies. There are some pretty hard to believe decisions made (according to this version of the movie) that those who really had this horrible experience in their lives couldn't have possibly made, at least not quite like this movie suggests. I'll include a single example...
After being shipwrecked, the first time the group even considered getting into the liferaft was 6 hours being adrift stating to each other that it was warmer in the water than up in the liferaft where they'd freeze in the cold air. No one (apparently) considered the injured women's severely cut leg which was a major issue before being shipwrecked or the fact that sharks exist in the ocean and are attracted to blood. (Hey, maybe that's the way it happened back in '82??). But after the necessity of getting into the raft, the air temperature didn't seem to factor into their survival at all, in fact, unless I missed it, it was never brought up again. Imo, this was something overlooked by the writers/producers of the movie, not those telling the story of their survival. Regardless, the reasoning behind decisions made was brought up about temperatures and then not followed through with. The whole movie is a bit like this - flawed.

I had already watched the real tragic story, in way better form, in "I Shouldn't be Alive" around 2005. Why redo it again? Why?! Why not do the real story behind 2010´s The Reef? It is based on an astounding real-life tragedy. Ray Boundy´s terrifying ordeal with a Tiger Shark hunting him and his 2 friends, Linda Horton and Dennis "Smurf" Murphy, after their boat, "The New Venture" capsized in shark infested waters in Australia, is both fascinating and horrifying. Maybe in this years "Shark Week", who knows? But they should listen and pay attention.

The people giving this 1, 2 and 3 and saying the dialogue and acting is bad are out there as far as I'm concerned. One reviewer criticizes that there was a drunk and a novice. Well the novice seemed to me to hold his weight in this film. He was competent as far as learning procedures. The captain was caught between a rock and a hard place as to what to do when the storms hit. I felt that either way, they would have capsized. To say that Sharknado is superior shows your poor taste in movies. To say it's boring is not true. It was tense a few minutes into it. If it was embellished, well, you try making a movie without adding some things. We don't even know that it was embellished. The one person wrote several books about what happened. It was terrifying, not boring and I love when they show survivors pictures at the end. I'm adding several stars due to ridiculous reviews.

If your a fan of Shark movies or even know a little about sharks, you'll find this movie awful. Which it is.
What made me stick it out, was how badly and cheaply it was made. The true story of it was real, so that's the base. But it is basically a 90-min infomercial as to how its produced and shot. Plastic sharks, over the top dread music, bathtub waves, bad cgi. Makes Sharknado look like Jaws.
The ending, as in the real footage of the survivors and their story, was the best part of the movie.
I can see a stock pile of these movies being made in this fashion going forward and been sold for a penny (or similar % deal) to media outlets worldwide. So for that insight, I gave it 4 stars. Deserves 2, lol

I have watched this true story from 1982 about the Trashman yacht on the documentary-drama series ''I Shouldn't Be Alive'' on two occasions now, and it is substantially much better than this movie which falls short on the true facts, the actors are disappointing and add little to make this any more than a mediocre movie.
The little changes that were made to the story in the ''Capsized: Blood In The Water'' do nothing for this movie, if anything, just make it less interesting and disappointing when you know what the true facts are.
I was going to give this movie a generous 5/10 rating, but on further consideration decided that a 4/10 rating is more accurate for this review.
Don't waste your time watching this movie, there is very little entertainment value in it, this story in the ''I Shouldn't Be Alive'' series is much more compelling, realistic and factual.
