OK film but plot holes and clown costumes
hoops-5343611 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A decent movie with some questionable aspects in the ending. The young man who has kidnapped and killed is happily riding a horse and the mother has found a new love, a man who was barely in the film.

I take great umbrage in the treatment of Hannah Vandenbygaart. Hannah is a beautiful actress but the costumes she had to wear in this movie were CLOWNISH. Allow her beauty to shine through and not distract us with unbelievable outifts.

Awfully far-fetched plot!

Widow and her daughter find out that dying husband had a mistress and son who play the sympathy card and she lets them live on her property? Who would do that in reality? Skip it.

Silly characters
phd_travel5 April 2020
Fairy watchable story but the silliness of the widow in taking in the mistress and son make it seem a bit lame. Not a must watch.

I watched it for Bree W only...

And it was terrible. During the opening scene, I was hopeful that the movie would have a Revenge/Deception kind of vibe to it, but it didn't. First off, I believe the inheritance was only a million dollars? At the risk of sounding very first world, that's not enough money for all this drama. They own horses and that nice home on acreage and with their expensive taste....the inheritance should have at least been ten million for the movie to make sense.

As for the plot: the father has a heart attack at their daughter's party and he ends up dying not long after. On his deathbed, he admits to having an illegitimate son and Allison promises to look out for them. Well months later, the mom and son come to see if she meant it. This is where the movie lost me...you don't know them at all for the first thing. Did they really need to live on the property? They were strangers. Helping them find their own space would make more sense. I think they were going for a rich man/poor man, but it really didn't work for me. Lots of things going on in this movie. A plotline with the adults and a plotline with the "teens." It all eventually comes to a head in the climax that was alluded to in the opening scene. Not even joking, but the villain reveal and monologue happened so fast, I thought I missed something. This was just not a good movie. I hope the next time Lifetime does this plot, they flesh it out a little more.

Easy Watching
svader29 June 2020
Easy to watch afternoon movie without a complicated plot.

One thing though which is irritating is the character of Hollie . . .she's 22 and acts, speaks and dresses like a 10 year old.

All in the Family
lavatch20 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
In "A Killer in My Home" (a.k.a., "A Family's Nightmare"), Ryan and Allison Wright seem to have the perfect family. At a special fundraising event, their lovely daughter Hollie is playing the piano. She is joyous about her acceptance to Porterville University. Then, their world collapses as Ryan is felled by a heart attack.

While dying in the hospital, Ryan is visited by apparent strangers. But it turns out that Ryan had sired a son with another woman. After his death, the surviving widow Allison must make some fateful decisions about whether or not to provide financial support to the strange interlopers, Jenna and her son Joshua.

Joshua is one of the more intriguing characters ever to trod the boards of a Lifetime movie set. Abused at the hands of his monster mother, Jason has been in trouble with the law. A shortcoming of the screenplay was that it was never made clear if Joshua killed Oscar Barbosa, the chef at the events planned by Allison as part of her business called "Perfecto Event Planning." Or, did Jenna do the dastardly deed herself?

The psychological nuances of Allison's character were effectively portrayed by one of our favorite actresses, Bree "Lifetime" Williamson. Allison was simply too full of the milk of human kindness in her trust of Jenna. This flaw was recognized by Allison's bestie, Melissa, who wound up in the hospital with a coma after she snooped in the home of Jenna's evil boyfriend Travis.

The most interesting relationship in the film was that of Allison and young Joshua. Allison was the mother Joshua always wished he had. The introduction she gave him to the horses at the family stable was the most moving scene in the film. The ending may be too pat with Joshua joining the family and being welcomed even by Hollie, who had heretofore been a prissy and standoffish princess.

It is significant that Allison wants to contribute financially to the Heart Foundation in memory of her philandering husband. That gesture says more about Allison than the womanizing Ryan. It was Allison who had an essential goodness that was apparent in the film's theme that "the heart is the only thing that matters."

I like Krista Bridges especially in Wandering Eye (2009), but she was terrible in this. And what was with the thick eyebrows? I also like Hannah Vandenbygaart especially in the Sweetheart, this was a poor choice on her behalf! By the way Allison (played by Bree Williamson) is one of the dumbest moms in LMN movies.

If you like cheese
paulgibson-2980625 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If you like cheesy movies then this should be your cup of tea.

Without giving too much away, Bree Williamson is the wife who finds out that her husband has a mistress and illegitimate son. He suffers a major heart attack but still manages to spill the beans despite being at death's door. Cut to 6 months down the line and the lad and his mom turn up at her door and move into the guest house she owns...at this point all manner of terrible things happen.....to be honest, I was bit confused by all the hullabaloo taking place as my wife was blending some soup during some of the crucial parts of the film and I couldn't hear what was happening. However, I did manage to catch the finale and very satisfying it was too. Some terrific acting was on show, notably by Percy Hynes White who portrayed the son Joshua as having some serious mental health issues. Christian Laurin was very convincing as a Head Chef and I was enjoying his french accent before his untimely demise after being pushed down a small flight of steps. Jeff Roop as the Dad didn't have much time to shine as he had died within five minutes of the film starting but I imagine that he will have the opportunity to showcase his talents in future similar movies.

Ultimately, this is a cautionary tale for young attractive wives to check whether or not their spouses have mistresses and sons dotted around the country and for chefs with french accents to avoid small flights of steps.

Heartily recommended!

Weak and regular...
RosanaBotafogo3 October 2022
Allison Winters' world comes crashing down when her husband dies of a sudden heart attack, announcing on his deathbed that he has a secret family. Six months later, this family arrives on Allison's doorstep, determined to be a part of her life...

Very forced at the beginning, predicting a disastrous outcome, the widowed wife will not pay the legal part due to the dead husband's b*** son, however she offers her recently renovated guest house for mother (lover) and her son to live there, what's the logic rational in that... The outcome ended as it started, convenient, predictable, tolerable... Weak and regular...
