Good for the kids
jmelender-4418728 October 2021
It has a more childish appeal for sure but I'm such a nerd I'll definitely keep watching this.

The animation is a liiittle low quality compared to high-end 3D animation out there, but it's still good enough.

It's a little early to tell what the show is going to be like because it just started, but I have a feeling it's going to try and interest kids in stuff like engineering and science.

Nice Star Wars reboot: Star Trek huh?
domnogin31 October 2021
This episode is a Star Wars knockoff, with a few Star Wars species as a veneer. Why would a Kazon and a Tellurite be in the same quadrant? What quadrant is this anyway? How do the two teens know each other beforehand? How can the teens be lawless if there is no obvious law outside The Diviner?

Perfect Introduction to a New Star Trek
MovieMattic28 October 2021
The first episode did a great job of introducing the new characters and an intriguing storyline with a few mentions of Starfleet by the bad guy named Diviner. You get a chance to see some familiar races from the Delta Quadrant and the first appearance of Hologram Janeway. The animation is stunning as well.

The only thing I could say was a bit disappointing is that I tried watching this with my 5 year old daughter, but the story and dialogue were a little too difficult for her to grasp. I suppose it would be better suited to preteens and long standing fans of Star Trek. I'm looking forward to what the next episodes have in store.

Star Trek Finally Gets Its Clone Wars
discussing-trek28 October 2021
While Star Trek: Prodigy is made for the younger audience, it also caters to ANY Star Trek fan. Not only do we get a well-established quest for this newly-formed rag-tag crew of the USS Protostar, but we also elegantly establish a cast of characters that are sure to make the show very interesting and fun. While the premiere episode, Lost & Found, may have in some ways felt more like Star Wars than Star Trek, it doesn't bother me at all that they are taking the time to establish a strong base for these characters to build on -- no matter how foreign to Trek some of it may initially feel. Kudos to the production team, having established a visual aesthetic that is top tier -- one that makes the possibilities endless for the realization of how where-no-man-has-gone-before can look and feel for a new generation and beyond. Dal and his friends have set out on their collective hero's journey, and I'm here for it.

Surprisingly fun and good

Warning: Spoilers
Although it FEELS like a Star Wars show, the animation and the ambience (As if Star Wars: Clone Wars had a baby with Star Trek: Lower Decks, this would be that baby) I was pleasantly surprised though, the theme is interesting, some old ideas seem to be part of it, and as an adult it wasn't too 'kiddy' but also safe for the munchkins without any obvious political narratives, thank goodness. We'll have to see, but I have some hope for this.

This was a pretty great beggining.

-I love this episode ,it was waaay better than i expected,i love the main theme, the music score, the aliens (even Murph is cute ) i like almost everything ,excepting the two Talaxians ,yes two ,because the fat guy is looking like Neelix, not like a Tellarite and the skinny guy reminds me about Neelix too ,with that punk haircut and that is not a great thing, because Neelix is not liked by the fans. I don't like the lack of any kind of muscular main character (i can see the producers are not fans of The Justice League like we ,the trekkies were ,back in the late 90's and early 00's) and the lack of main races, because that was done before in Voyager, but this is a pretty strong start.

Lost and Found: Part 1
Prismark1013 November 2021
Another Star Trek cartoon hot on the heels of Lower Decks.

While the Amazon series is low brow, more smutty and irreverent. Prodigy is made for Nickelodeon, part of the Paramount family.

Although aimed at children, it would be appreciated by adults who like their Star Trek to be more traditional and po faced.

Immediately the opening episode never gives you a time and place which does appear to be confusing.

Dal R'El, is a talkative smart Alec young purple guy who know little about his own origins and the others in the prison colony he is in. Not helped by the fact that there is no universal translator so no other prisoners can communicate with each other.

While escaping with a rock creature Rok-Tahk. They find an abandoned Starfleet ship called the USS Protostar. As it has a universal translator, both Dal R'El and Rok-Tahk could talk to each other for the first time.

Having only seen the first episode. I actually began to appreciate Lower Decks more. The animation for Prodigy is better and looks more expensive. The inspiration seems to be the Star Wars animation. I actually do think that the kid audience might feel alienated because it does not so far feel like the Star Trek universe.

A Senior Trekker writes.....................

With excellent design and production values, this is lovely to look at and introduces some charming young characters (to say nothing of one of the greatest villains of stage or screen, the great John Noble). The score and credit sequence are quite beautiful, thank you.
