Cowboys and Dreamers

I watch this series from outside the United States and I wonder a lot of things if they happen like here in real life, for example the issue of drinking alcohol. It gives me the impression that they drink a lot of alcohol, that is to say that there is no episode where they don't stop drinking alcohol. Where the characters do not appear.

I am a 69 year old female living in New Zealand. Have binge watched from season one in past 2 weeks. I just love Yellowstone. Kevin Costner & the cast turn in superb performances. In this episode it was a change to see the softer side of the males & great humour.

S1 & 2 were so oomphy in drama and dynamics, always something to be worried about and hoping for. Five episodes in to S3 and it hasn't picked up a single interesting thread. Instead, an annoying cowgirl brought in just for lolz, a bunch of unrealistic HR musical chairs, an investor throwing his fishing rod down because he's angry about his stock falling. Gee whiz! The flashback prologues used to have relevance to the story, here it just feels like ret-conning filler. It honestly feels like a bunch of deleted scenes. When you think about the dramatic tensions in S1, the various pickles and problems, murders and coverups, S3 feels like another show.

I came to the end of the following episode and thought hunh . . . this is just like the last episode: sludgy, slow, muddy . . . there's good material but it doesn't flow. It's actually pretty awful and these should have been powerful episodes. WTF I ask my self 'cause I like this show and I don't wanna stop watching, but hey: bad is bad.

So what's different? I looked. It's the Director. Different and totally inexperienced Director and she's ruined an important aspect of the series. These revelations about an intra-family tragedy are crucial. It's wrecked the show for me. I keep wanting to push it, make it 'go.' And it doesn't go.

Too bad.
