Former Jax Media president Brooke Posch has opened her own shingle, Good&Done, aiming to focus on comedy projects from new and undiscovered voices. As part of the launch, Posch has hired former Broadway Video and Universal TV exec Hannah Kitziger to serve as head of development.
“Throughout my career I’ve experienced the incredible rewards of having developed and produced some of the most extraordinary voices in TV and film,” Posch said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to take this next step to launch Good&Done and bring on executive Hannah Kitziger. Unique perspectives are the drivers in breakthrough programming, and we’re excited to shake up the comedy landscape.”
Posch exited Jax Media last year after that company was sold to Imagine Entertainment. She first joined Jax Media in 2019 as president of original programming, launching several series and also setting up an unscripted division, a movie division and Jax UK.

‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Guest Star Troy Kotsur Reveals the Joke That Made Larry David Break Character
Note: The following story contains spoilers from “Curb Your Enthusiasm” Season 12, Episode 3.
Sunday’s episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” titled “Vertical Drop, Horizontal Tug,” sees Larry David hit the golf course, where he eavesdrops on a lesson that improves his swing a little too well.
The lesson is given to Troy Kotsur, a deaf actor who is best known for his Academy Award-winning supporting role in the Apple TV+ film “Coda.” Through the rest of the episode, Kotsur’s feud with David intensifies as he’s hit in the back by one of Larry’s golf balls and later hit with a bagel intended for a homeless man.
To keep the narrative spontaneous, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is shot without a script. Cast members are given scene outlines so they can improvise lines as they go. The actor opened up about how his prior experience in improv helped him make David...

Aside from its regular “Fox Animation Domination” block on Sunday nights, Fox’s fall schedule is taking a more alternative approach this year as the WGA strike continues to remain an issue for Hollywood.
In similar fashion to other broadcast networks, Fox’s fall schedule was notably missing mention of its scripted series premiere dates. Those programming blocks have instead been filled with unscripted shows like “Celebrity Name that Tune” and “Kitchen Nightmares” and animated series like newcomer”Krapopolis” (which recently got a long overdue premiere date) and mainstays like “The Simpsons,” “Bob’s Burgers” and “Family Guy.”
Hosted by Jane Krakowski and band leader Randy Jackson, “Celebrity Name That Tune” is an all-celebrity edition with games that will test the musical knowledge of athletes, musicians, actors, TV personalities, comedians and Olympians as they play for their favorite charities with a chance to win over $150,000. Roku Media President Charlie Collier has implemented his first major executive shake-up since joining the company from Fox Entertainment in November, elevating David Eilenberg to oversee content across the media division, a Roku spokesperson confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
Eilenberg will succeed Rob Holmes, who currently serves as vp programming and is set to depart in March after six years at Roku. During that time, Holmes helped oversee the launch of The Roku Channel and led the company’s transition into original content. In a memo to staff announcing the changes, obtained by THR, Collier said Holmes would focus on “ongoing strategic projects” before his departure. “He’s a partner and friend to many of us, and to be clear, this announcement is by no means Rob’s final send-off; there will be more on Rob and his many contributions in the days ahead. Fourteen years ago, J.B. Smoove’s Leon moved in with Larry David on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and never looked back. Now, it’s hard to fathom that there was ever a season of that HBO comedy without him.
Throughout the six seasons he has been on the show, Smoove brought his swagger and signature splash of improv comedy to David’s unscripted sitcom, returning for Season 11 on Oct. 24. His character, Leon, has coined some of the series’ most iconic phrases, from “lampin’” to “get in that ass,” and his on-screen relationship with Larry has kindled some of “Curb’s” most absurdly hilarious storylines.
This year, the actor-comedian also won his first Emmy — for acting in a short form comedy or drama in Quibi’s “Mapleworth Murders” — and will grace the big screen this December in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

The world has changed but Larry David hasn’t. That’s the best possible news for the legion fanbase of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” the comedian’s long-running half-hour series. HBO dropped the trailer for its upcoming Season 11 on Wednesday, October 13, featuring guest stars Patton Oswalt, Vince Vaughn, Jon Hamm, Seth Rogen, and more.
The series originally debuted in 2001 and has run for more than 100 episodes. “Curb Your Enthusiasm” stars “Seinfeld” co-creator David as an over-the-top version of himself in an unsparing but tongue-in-cheek depiction of his fictionalized life. The series also stars Susie Essman (“Broad City”), Jeff Garlin (“The Goldbergs”), Cheryl Hines (“Suburgatory”), J.B. Smoove (“Mapleworth Murders”), Ted Danson (“The Good Place”) and Richard Lewis (“Anything But Love”).
Per HBO, the comedy series continues to prove how seemingly trivial details of one’s day-to-day life — a cold cup of coffee, a stained shirt, a missing toothbrush — can precipitate a catastrophic chain of events.

Beloved “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actor and comic J.B. Smoove won his first-ever Emmy Award this year thanks to his work on a short-form comedy from the long-defunct streaming platform Quibi.
Smoove was honored with Best Actor in a Short-Form Comedy or Drama Series for his performance on “Mapleworth Murders,” one of the Quibi shows that has since moved to Roku after the failed network dissolved. It marked the only Emmy Award given to Quibi at the 2021 Creative Arts Emmys ceremony. Overall, the former streamer earned three total Emmy Awards in its short lifespan, all for acting.
“You know, you almost wish it was longer. I almost wish it was longer, but in wishing it was longer, is it as effective?” Smoove previously told Gold Derby. “This right here, it’s very calculated, very precise in the joke writing, very precise in their performances, which resonates more with you and you remember more.

J.B. Smoove celebrated his Creative Emmy Award win for Outstanding Actor In a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for Mapleworth Murders by teasing what’s ahead on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm when it returns in Oct.
“What I can say is that it’s going to be another amazing season. When I first met Larry in season 6, I asked him when he was going to end this and he said he didn’t know. I do think that him taking those years off to shoot the movie and do the play, he came back with new energy. And, you know what? He’s having a ball. And as long as you’re having fun, it’s effortless.

Dan Harmon’s upcoming animated comedy “Krapopolis” at Fox has cast Hannah Waddingham, Richard Ayoade, Matt Berry, Pam Murphy and Duncan Trussell in the lead roles.
The series, which was picked up to series in February, centers on a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters that tries to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other.
In the series, Ayoade voices Tyrannis, the mortal son of a goddess. He’s the benevolent King of Krapopolis trying to make do in a city that lives up to its name. Waddingham plays Deliria, Tyrannis’ mother, goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. Within her extended Olympian family – forged in patricide and infidelity – she’s known as the trashy one. Berry is Shlub, Tyrannis’ father, a mantitaur. He is oversexed and underemployed, claims to be an artist and has literally never paid for anything, in any sense of that word,...

John Lutz is very frank about the fact that the short-form series he co-created, “Mapleworth Murders,” came about because of writer’s block. “I was trying to come up with an idea for myself and I just couldn’t come up with anything. Then my wife, who’s also a writer and an actress said, well, why don’t you write something for Paula Pell,” he tells us in our recent webchat (watch the video above). This led to him going off, brainstorming several ideas and then landing on a spoof of the iconic mystery series, “Murder, She Wrote.” “It just clicked and then it was like, you could immediately see Paula in an outfit, walking around Cabot Cove, solving all these crimes and then I asked Paula and fortunately she said yes.”

J.B. Smoove is very understanding that a short format show like “Mapleworth Murders” can leave you wanting a lot more, but also says that it leads to a bigger question. “You know, you almost wish it was longer. I almost wish it was longer, but in wishing it was longer, is it as effective,” he asks in our recent webchat (watch the video above). He likened it to a comedian doing a killer five-minute set but then being asked to do more and that material not measuring up. “This right here, it’s very calculated, very precise in the joke writing, very precise in their performances, which resonates more with you and you remember more.”

One of the most unusual quirks of this year’s Emmy nominations was the fact that Quibi managed to land eight of them — quite a feat, given that the streamer doesn’t actually exist anymore.
Quibi shut down in December, less than a year after its much-heralded launch. The Jeffrey Katzenberg-Meg Whitman startup and its promise of delivering “quick bite” content to users exclusively on their phones became a bit of a punchline in the industry. But the programming itself was rather solid, attracting top Hollywood producers and stars. Clearly TV Academy voters found it Emmy-worthy: Last year, Quibi won two Emmys (for “#FreeRayshawn”).
This year’s three nominated Quibi shows — “Die Hart,” “Mapleworth Murders” and “Reno 911!” — live on via Roku, which acquired the Quibi programming slate earlier this year for its Roku Channel. Here’s the awkward thing: The Television Academy still lists the network for those shows as Quibi,...

Roku is betting its fire-sale pickup of the shows from Quibi, Jeffrey Katzenberg’s short-lived, short-form startup, will continue to pay off for the streaming platform.
On Aug. 13, the company will premiere 23 new Roku Originals (each of them from Quibi’s library) exclusively on the Roku Channel to stream for free with ads. It’s the second tranche of Quibi shows coming to the Roku Channel, after Roku bowed 30 titles in May.
The new shows coming to the Roku Channel include “Mapleworth Murders,” a “Murder She Wrote” spoof that nabbed three 2021 Emmy acting nominations for Paula Pell, John Lutz and J.B. Smoove. Also on the slate are four previously unreleased Quibi titles: “Eye Candy” hosted by Josh Groban, a competition series in which contestants attempt to identify outrageous edible creations that look like everyday objects; cleaning competition “Squeaky Clean” hosted by Leslie Jordan; Season 2 of money-giveaway reality show “Thanks a...

The new slate of 23 shows — all stemming from Roku’s acquisition of Quibi’s library earlier this year — will include a new season of “Thanks a Million,” the pay-it-forward series from executive producer Jennifer Lopez.
The new season of “Thanks a Million” will include guest stars Matthew McConaughey, Chris Rock, Vanessa Hudgens and Lana Condor, among others, Roku said. Other titles coming soon to Roku includes “Mapleworth Murders,” the Emmy-nominated show starring Paula Pell, John Lutz and J.B. Smoove. In Mapleworth Murders, Paula Pell plays a murder-mystery novelist in a quaint small town who takes it upon herself to solve the many real murders taking place all around her. If the premise brings to mind Murder, She Wrote — the CBS series starring Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher, a small-town mystery novelist who also solves murders — that’s on purpose. The annual Primetime Emmys always come with a dash of mystery and intrigue, but Hollywood’s Rise of the Streamers has given the Television Academy a whole new host of things to worry about.
Like, what’s a network these days, anyway? The org caught flack for allowing HBO and HBO Max to merge their tallies, giving the combo a slight edge — 130 vs. 129 noms — over rival Netflix. But it also tallied Disney’s total conglomerate haul at 146, beating them both.
“I would prefer the Academy just to step out of the platform, for lack of a better word, ‘wars’ altogether,” president/COO Maury McIntrye told me.
Also baffling some observers: The ongoing debate over what is film (and the domain of the Oscars) vs. what is TV and falls under the Emmys. That question may have impacted Amazon Prime Video’s “Small Axe,” which was named top picture of 2020 by the L.

“Girls5eva” fans who expected to see the Peacock comedy earn multiple nominations on Tuesday were left asking Emmy voters, “What are you waiting five?” The show was nominated just once, for best writing in a comedy series. But in a twist, one of the show’s stars did receive some long-awaited Emmy recognition.
Paula Pell, a legendary writer for “Saturday Night Live” and 10-time writing nominee at the Emmy Awards, scored her first-ever acting nomination on Tuesday — not for her go-for-broke “Girls5eva” performance, but rather a Quibi show. Pell was singled out in the Outstanding Actress In A Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series for the “Mapleworth Murders,” a short-form comedy that streamed on the now-defunct Quibi platform.
All told, “Mapleworth Murders” received three acting nominations. In addition to Pell, actors John Lutz and J.B. Smoove were also nominated. Despite not existing in its original form, Quibi did pretty well on Tuesday.

Reno 911!, Die Hart and Mapleworth Murders, which all began as original series on the ill-starred Quibi and now stream as Roku Originals, collected a total of eight Emmy nominations.
The tally was higher than seasoned Emmy regulars like Showtime and Paramount+ (née CBS All Access), which had six apiece. Fox, with seven, also had fewer, though the pool is different for short-form fare.
Die Hart, which Roku has renewed for a second season, stars Kevin Hart as a comedian looking to break through as an action movie star. It scored acting noms for Hart, John Travolta and Nathalie Emmanuel.
Reno 911!, the long-running Comedy Central spoof that was rebooted by Quibi, was recognized in two categories. It is up for Short Form Comedy, Drama Or Variety Series as well as Kerri Kenney-Silver’s performance as Deputy Trudy Wiegel.

Quibi is dead — long live Quibi!
The Jeffrey Katzenberg-led mobile premium video service flamed out last year about six months after launching. But three of its pricey original series just picked up a total of eight 2021 Emmy Awards nominations — “Reno 911!”, “Die Hart” and “Mapleworth Murders” — the first two of which are currently streaming for free on the Roku Channel.
From beyond the grave, Quibi got more Emmy nominations than Fox (which had seven), Paramount Plus (six) or Showtime (six). To be fair, Quibi’s nods were in the less-competitive short-form categories

After a year of unprecedented disruption in the entertainment industry, the Critics’ Choice Awards are out to remind us we still streamed a lot of shows. Netflix leads this year’s TV nominations with 26 nods, including six nominations each for perennial awards favorites “The Crown” and “Ozark.”

Jason Bateman and Josh O’Connor are up for Best Actor in a Drama Series, while Olivia Colman, “Crown” breakout Emma Corrin, and Laura Linney all secured spots for Best Actress in a Drama Series.
Other Netflix series recognized with multiple nominations include breakout hit “The Queen’s Gambit” and the early 2020 favorite “Unorthodox.” Scott Frank’s chess-fueled limited series snagged three nominations for Best Actress (Anya Taylor-Joy), Supporting Actress (Marielle Heller), and Best Limited Series, while the Emmy-winning “Unorthodox” landed in the Best Limited Series and Best Actress (Shira Haas) races,...
