Gun-Play. Well before the birth of Marion Mitchell "Duke-the-Family-Mutt" Morrison, U. S. Society was awash with firearms. Dueling was in fashion to such an extent that there were multiple lethal firing ranges dotting Washington, DC, and the military was running short of officers because so many were biting the dust during these face-offs. Presidents such as Andy Jackson and Vice-Presidents including Aaron Burr were blowing rivals away, with cabinet secretaries including Alexander Hamilton getting planted six feet under. Shooting irons were considered Peacemakers of first resort. After spending two decades as a war hero against an Axis of Evil comprised of England, France and North Africa, STEPHEN DECATUR was gunned down by a fellow American naval captain within the borders of the National Capital. Though Mr. Peabody missed it, the turnout for Steve's funeral remains the biggest gathering of Washington dignitaries to this day.
