Good but not great.
blast_only20 June 2020
The actors are quite convincing, but there is no build-up to where the story finally ends. It just happens for no apparent reason!

A Simple Love Story
martimusross16 September 2020
This was a very gentle love story told to us when a strong friendship turned into much more on a holiday trip to Greece it was well acted, slow in places, but the relationship between the two men was very well done.

The camerawork was ravishing along with the score, overall I enjoyed this movie very much

A languid love story
laduqesa16 September 2020
The relationship between the two leads isn't quite "no homo!" as there are hints and signs that there might once have been a little more than friendship between them. They both present as straight but Enis's girlfriend implies that gay friends of theirs might like to be around Phillip.

They are workout buddies who go on a free trip to Greece. Some reviewers and the summary/plot writer here on IMDB seem to think that their meeting with Hercules was some sort of mystical awakening. It was not; it was a tourist scam carried out by a peasant playing on credulity and I could see it coming from afar. The subsequent events were what could happen with any couple of supposedly straight lads in a bromance.

Back in Berlin life was tough for both of them dealing with reality again and with the reverberations of their experiences in the intoxicating atmosphere of Corfu.

Someone had to be hurt in the end. I don't want this to be a spoiler review so I leave it to the viewer to find out who it is.

I enjoyed this film. The lads are real goodlookers and the scenery is fabulous. The storyline was realistic and held the interest. I'd advise people to try it out.

The budget was low and it shows
ciffou22 August 2021
If there was not enough money, why did they decide to write this in an exotic place? There was no need for that, no need for the "contest". This could easily have happened for more realistic reasons and more scenes could have been filmed tying everything up. There is no chemistry between the two actors and "their moment" is so cold. THe intricacies of it all, the fears, the logistics(!!!)... that would have been interesting to see them argue about, especially when they create a "macho" body-building character. Wouldn't this be a huge deal??? And let's not even talk about the "acting" of the girlfriend or the way Hercules can carry on a conversation in English when he said earlier he "barely" speaks it.

Enjoyed it.....however
reese_randall19 April 2020
We've all meet someone and felt that "alternative" chemistry. This movie just so happens to set up the perfect scenery and libatious mix to where inhibitions are lowered and urges explored.

...now the however...I would have enjoyed this being a mini series where we can realistically see the tumultuous connection between the two, which over time would have made it easier to validify the ending.

It was the Pomegranate!!!!
jromanbaker10 July 2020
What is it with gay themed films and fruit ? The example of the peach in ' Call Me By Your Name ' set the example and here comes another film with a pomegranate that is the basis of male on male eroticism. For most of this semi-travelogue of a trip to Greece which could have been cut by at least ten minutes two would be gay lovers ' find ' their ' true ' orientation. They are two gym Narcissists who spend their time flexing their muscles and teasing each other while doing all this love's labours lost for women. I did not believe in this scenario except sadly for the gym part. I could have had if there had been a modicum of psychology in the film plus a real sense of chemistry between the two men. There is also a rolling about in the sands which made me laugh and a wrestling scene that made me almost want to stop watching. Put bluntly this is not a very good film, but it gets a 4 because of Orpheus ( called Hercules here ) who genuinely does tap on a sense of magic that unfortunately disappears too quickly. For gym buddies alone who believe they have minds and an appreciation of cinema beyond Hollywood tripe of the 21st Century.

I've seen adult films with a more plausible plot
lele-the-reviewer18 February 2020
Despite the plot involving two very good looking, very straight looking friends who end up having sex with each other (the recipe of 90% of gay coms) the actual development makes no sense. The actors can barely hide the improbability of what happens, the audience is left baffled by the lack of foretelling. The locations are beautiful though and really make you want to visit the island of Corfu'... just don't expect 2 gym bros making out on the beach.

Awakenings
earl-rose20 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Two guys meet in a gym. One wins a trip for two to Greece. He invites his workout friend. They go on the trip together. While they are there they have some experiences which are outside their normal reality. Or perhaps their experiences are more true to who they are. This is a bro' film, a road film and a story about love. Many such stories start with the physical. Then the rest of the relationship stuff kicks in. This film goes in reverse.

Painful
Artbrute23 July 2020
This film looks that came from a horny teenager who is trying to reveal his true identity. Everything seems fake in this. I was painful to watch. It starts with a simple minds (band) quote. Simple minds! I rest my case.

ZOOOOM -- That's the sound of this movie going right over the heads of some viewers
zobva128 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I just watched Orpheus' Song and came to IMDB to see what others were saying about the short movie. So I've been reading through the reviews, and apparently a lot of people didn't "get" it, apparently because the movie wasn't long enough to explain Orpheus's background. Either that, or the writer/producer Tor Iben knew Greek mythology and made the errant assumption that others watching his film would understand the film's premise.

The mysterious man who came out of nowhere in the woods (which wasn't accidental; more on that in a bit). That his name was not really Hercules as he averred was obvious -- because when asked his name, he hesitated before saying, "Hercules"; And he and certainly he did not have Hercules' muscles. Nor was he just a local con artist as someone suggested n another review. The name of the film is "Orpheus' Song". He was Orpheus. Orpheus said that the cave he lured them to was his home, And yet the cave was bare except for the pomegranates, the bottle of a special drink -- and the three shot glasses that he just happened to have on hand. It was planned.

If one pays close attention, there was further evidence of Orpheus' semi-divinity. When he was shown playing his charmed love song on his flute he was fully clothed standing on the bank of a pond., But when the camera panned down to show his reflection in the water, his "reflection" was wearing only a white loincloth and It looked almost as if he were IN the water or walking on the water-- which made one wonder if his story had been true about the pomegranate being charmed by a water nymph who lived in a waterfall. A charmed pomegranate that could make anyone fall in love forever.

Although not overtly sexual, the nearly naked men sleeping so close together while Orpheus played his enchanting flute music was a highly erotic scene in the movie. The last we had seen of them before this scene was when Orpheus was giving them a special drink that they loved and could not get enough of. Then they were shown sleeping close together in their underwear in their drugged state; their nearly bare bodies were touching and their heads turned towards each other, their faces just inches apart. Charmed by Orpheus' seductive song they began breathing heavily and touching themselves in their hypnotic sleep.

In Greek legend, Orpheus.was a Thracian with the power to charm anyone into falling in love with his music. And one more fact about Orpheus ... both Ovid and Plato wrote that Orpheus sexually preferred males -- and that he taught the "love of boys" to the Thracians.

Anyway, I really believe that if "Orpheus' Song" could have been two hours long and Orpheus' background had been explained, the film would have made a lot more sense to those who didn't quite understand it.

Everything I just wrote took place in the first half of the film. There is no need for me to write more, because the second half is built on that premise and falls into place.

Nothing in it
sonekken26 July 2020
I didn't read about the film before watching, so I didn't know it's a gay themed one. I'm watching and watching waiting for something to happen, hoping for some mystery mystical action to start going on, and all that happened is what is pretty obvious from the first 5 minutes.

decent
Kirpianuscus5 September 2020
The basic sin - the high unrealism of story. The good points - good looking actors, the poetic title, easy frame for a predictible discover about the heart of their friendship, the pomegranate and the confusion of Enis after Corfu, the guide as a sort of Pan , the contrast of complementary friends and the care for physical condition. And,sure, the visit to Achilleon, the beauty of Corfu. With regret, nothing more. Result - a decent film about a powerful friendship,

Less than competent film making
michaeljayallen17 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Pretty much every element was bad other than seeing some Corfu scenery. The casting: one average to good looking northern European kind of guy. One more non-Euro looking guy with a lot of low class tattoos that I'm pretty sure were his. Both supposed to be gym bunnies but neither one looked it, just two guys who work out sometimes. The lead in Beto (which I just saw) was way hotter body wise and he was just supposed to be some guy. He was also an OK actor unlike these guys. But then they didn't have much to say and when they did there wasn't much going on because of the lame script and direction.

Pretty much just a series of random events in Berlin and Greece ensue, most with only marginal plausibility starting with a random Greek vacation won with no explanation on one guy's phone, like that ever happens. The hotel was really cheap looking construction with stipes and things painted on the white walls - like maybe a hostel. One guy wants to check out an abandoned village so they head out with no particular supplies other than you would take for an afternoon around town and it's dark when they get there so they sleep on the ground. One guy uses a water bottle for a pillow. Somehow they forget their route even though a lot of it was a path between stone walls. One thing after another happens at glacial speed until they go to live happily ever after back in Greece (so one guy has to quit going to some school that was mentioned several times without ever saying what it was), leaving Berlin after packing a couple things in a bag.

Great Romcom!
albertotlo15 April 2024
First things first, let's talk about those locations. Chef's kiss Seriously, they deserve an Oscar just for finding those breathtaking backdrops. And don't even get me started on the eye candy that is the cast. We're talking cute actors serving looks hotter than a summer day in Greece.

Now, onto the acting. Imagine two gay guys trying to play it straight. It's like watching a game of "hide the rainbow" that's so on point, it's practically a tutorial. And their chemistry? Honey, it hit like a ton of bricks in the best way possible. I'm talking whirlwind romance that'll leave you questioning if you accidentally wandered into a rom-com fever dream.

But let's not forget about the comedy, because this movie had me cackling like a hyena on laughing gas. From the girlfriend turned dominatrix to the flower crown fiasco that would make even Martha Stewart cringe, it's a riot. And her sudden transformation into a discount sex worker? Girl, I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.

So, if you're in the mood for sass, laughs, and more unexpected twists than a pretzel factory, "Opheo's Dream" is your golden ticket. Just buckle up and prepare for a wild ride that's sassier than your grandma's Sunday hat.

An outstanding movie
sinnerofcinema27 December 2020
See this movie in all of its splendor. Its sensual, mystical and just a dream of a film. It almost seems like Greek mythology in the making. The actors were fantastic and so were the locals. This film is not to be missed. Highly, highly, highly recommended.

This song is a hit
kaospheric24 March 2020
Short and sweet, Orpheus' Song is an exercise in slowly building sexual tension. The chemistry between the two leads is intoxicating, and the scenery almost as gorgeous as Philipp (a luminous Sascha Weingarten).

Beautiful love story
andredejongh7 April 2023
Really a beautiful love story.... Kudo's for Sacha Weingarten and Julien Lickert.... they play really believable characters... the mythical context is a really nice poetic context writer and director Tor Iben gives to the whole story... I love the dreamlike state at times.... I might be wrong but I feel some inspiration from Marco Berger's films? Although Tor Iben has a feel for mythicism, for a fairytale like world with a connection to ancient old stories told for centuries... in this case the great Greek Myths... Both Sacha Weingarten and Julien Lickert portray two very believable men with deep complex emotions. It never becomes corny and never too porny ... it's honest and true... Perhaps they could have made the film a bit longer.... a bit more expansion on some parts of the script. The film is now a bit longer than one hour. I understand the budget was probably tight but I think with a bit more script the film could have become a 1,5 to 2 hour feature film... If you like Marco Berger's films I am sure you will appreciate Orpheus' Song also... Again: perfectly cast!

Dreamy film. A journey of self discovery with a touch of mythology
victorhchu3 February 2022
Overall enjoyed it. Follows the story of two close friends who won a trip to Greece. Here, they go on a hike which becomes somewhat of a labyrinth as they got lost. It is somewhat of a hero's journey story of self-discovery with a touch of mythology. It isn't an overly complex story but beautiful shot with gorgeous landscape, some parts are very sensual.

A feel-good movie
stevencausin2 August 2022
Highly recommended! The storyline was just perfect. It was light and yet it hits you deep within your core. An amazing love story indeed. The acting was just spot-on. The cinematography and picture perfect. This is one of the movies you spend 2 hours watching movie trailers looking for something that hits you right in the feels. Bravo!
