Don't take shows too seriously and just enjoy

Warning: Spoilers
I'm so glad I stopped reading the reviews on IMDb before watching something

I enjoy this show, I enjoyed this episode and even though we all know the outcome, it had me on the edge of my seat at most times.

Not everything I watch has to be realistic (I mean, people don't regain consciousness immediately after resuscitation), I prefer good acting and dialogue and this show has both.

Thrilling!!!!

Warning: Spoilers
I've watched many cop shows but I've never been so invested in the cops relationship!! I love the perspective of their own personal lives and I hope and pray Chen and Bradford end up together!!! And show how they work out since he was going to receive a promotion anyway. This episode was thrilling and when they were looking for her body was the most intense part🤧🤧

Suspenseful

Great episode!! I didn't want to miss one minute because you just never knew what was going to happen. This episode was as powerful as Greenlight was last season!

The Search
claudio_carvalho23 October 2021
The LAPD including Nick and Wesley are searching Chen and Caleb using all the possible means to find a clue. Tim is feeling awful since he persuaded Chen to go to drink in a bar instead of going home to sleep as she wished. Will Chen be rescued on time?

"Time of Death" is the conclusion of "The Dark Side" and also a great episode. The dramatic plot is full of action and does not disappoint. My vote is nine.

Only Slightly Disappointed
SourCandyOrNoCandy7 April 2022
In my opinion, the previous episode was the best episode of The Rookie so far so I had reallyyy high expectations for this one. It didn't live up to the expectations I had, but it was still really, really good.

Best parts of the episode?

  • Bradford. I knew it would be an emotional episode for him and I ate those scenes uppp. The guilt he had, him performing CPR on Chen, holding her when she woke up, staying overnight with her in the hospital then bringing her food. I don't want the two of them to get together this season, but I'm loving the breadcrumbs (although they were practically full slices of bread by the end of the episode) the writers are giving us.

  • Caleb is such a fascinating character. The Rookie really knows how to write a good serial killer. Rosalind was amazing and Caleb was just as good. I started to like him then had to remind myself that he's a psychopathic serial killer.

  • Lucy singing. That was probably my favourite scene from the episode. They could've put some random soundtrack over those scenes, but her singing made it so much more impactful.

This wasn't one of the best parts, but I found it hilarious how they chose to bring up Rachel without actually seeing her. I actually laughed when Grace brought her up.

Worst parts of the episode?

  • There was no explanation of how Bradford knew about Chen's ring (I'm pretty sure she doesn't wear jewellery while on the job). Unless it's that he just saw something glinting and figured it was related to her. It was sweet that he knew that and her favourite meal, but it also felt too soon. I expected a scene like that a season from now, but I didn't expect it here, so I liked it but didn't like the timing.

  • The scene of Bradford reviving her could've been more impactful. When she woke up and was crying as he held her, that part was excellent, but while he was performing CPR I didn't feel the way I should've felt while watching an emotional scene like that.

Anyway, really good episode. I can't wait for the next episode to see the aftermath of all of this.

Nice episode... but a big goof apparently nobody saw.

Warning: Spoilers
The Episode is very exciting. Except one big goof. The Killer showed up at the police station to give his card to officer Chen. They could've easily used the camera footage to find out his identity.... At least officer Bradford should've thought of that. The rest of the story is pretty solid with all the collegues trying different angles to find the serial killer. Also the connection to Nick gets zoomed in All in all the series is getting better at character development, getting more in depth on the characters and their connection to each other. Also de the rookies are developiny theirselves well growing from their initial rookie status.

Just so stupid
spamfb24 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I hate writers so much. Every movie, every TV show, the kidnap victim gets the upper hand on the kidnapper and then runs away. Lucy is a cop who has previously demonstrated her supposedly superior strength over criminals. She has this guy down on the ground stunned, and runs away. Does she take the chair arm she just had in her hands and beat him into submission? No, she runs away. Come on writers, show some minor inspiration.

And don't get me started on TV writers' obsession with creating these moronic supervillains who are soooo much smarter than all law enforcement combined.

Unbelievable
megan-getter25 February 2020
In general, The Rookie has a lot of errors in police procedural, but the characters are interesting. I've come to love them all, but I'm not so sure now... This episode is by far the worse because the characters seem to bumble around the whole time. We all know they will save her in time, but drag it out. From a competent officer fumbling over trip wire and giving up to a man with a mission handing over his gun and being kidnapped, this epsidey was just dumb.

Get a technical advisor for Gods sake.

No better way to further ruin an otherwise ridiculous scene than with mispronunciation of basic anatomy and asinine logic. It's the subcl-A-vian artery, which the bullet would have had to miss at least a dozen crucial structures to kill the guy. And no, sticking your finger an inch into the wound isn't going to yield vascular control of anything.

The season and mid-season finales have ruined so many shows.
gdump25 February 2020
Other reviewers have documented most of the stupidity in this episode (they missed some of it) so I'll just comment on what led to this disaster -- the mid-season finale. This is a recent Hollywood invention that I just don't understand. Were there that many people that wouldn't continue watching a show after Christmas that they had to try and lure them back?

These finales almost always end up ruining 2 shows out of the season, the last show of the fall and the first of the spring. With the typical season running to 13 episodes these days, that means that they've thrown away 15% of their shows on typically implausible scripts in a misguided attempt to keep us coming back.

In my case, I have stopped watching at least 3 series because the mid-season finales absolutely ruined the show. If you share my opinion of these, please rate these finales as 1 so that maybe they'll get the message.

Unbelievable

This has to be the single most ridiculous plot line in the history of cop shows. If, as a writer, this is the best you can come up with, it is time to seek alternative career opportunities.

Only 3 stars because of Nathan Fillion BUT...
CzyboutFlix25 August 2021
A cop NEVER surrenders their weapon! Like spamfb noted, Lucy doesn't stop putting the beatdown on the thug once he's on the ground. This is a fight for life! You jump on the mf with everything you have. Bite, scratch and incapacitate the f'er. These past two episodes need to go into a vault of forgotten films.

Still like this show but the writers need to stop wasting our precious time.

Dissapointed
mithrandir-91 March 2020
I was really enjoying this show, I found it different enough from most of the other Police shows to be refreshing. Then they resort to this tired, overused scenario that's been done to death. Might be the beginning of the end for me.

So much stupid
ep27634 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Others have pointed out many of the stupidities of this episode and the previous episode. Here's another to add to the list. I'm a tech person so here's goes...

...instead of roaming through the desert trying to find buried Lucy, nobody in the show seems to have thought about the fact that the drum she is buried in is broadcasting a signal in order to deliver video to the bad guy's phone. It seems unlikely that there would be cell service out in the middle of nowhere, so he must be picking up the signal directly from the camera in the drum. How is the transmitter strong enough running on a couple of small batteries, buried in a steel can underground? There would likely have to be an above ground antenna, probably a dish pointed at the house. If there is cell service they might be able to triangulate on it.

All this might take too long, but even so, the writers should have at least thought of this and demonstrated that the characters have brains.

Ultimately, it's all so predictable and unimaginative. The dropped ring which Tim just happens to catch a glint of---gimme a break. Yawn.

Dragging on......
wyogirl-5801022 February 2022
Writers d_r_a_g this episode on. Some stupidity. Letting Rosalind manipulate......just gag the bit**!! Surrendering your weapon? Duuuhhhh.

Don't see us continuing this series much longer. Like Nathan in the shows, but this is too much.
