It's fundamentally fine, but I can't get into it
BoxwoodExpress28 July 2021
Chip and Dale: Park Life has all the trappings of a basic good cartoon. It has some pretty unique animation, color palettes, and striking character designs that evoke the rubberhose days of yore while being fresh for a new audience.

Plus, the lack of dialogue makes the show accessible to fans around the globe, as is the course for Xilam.

But despite everything, I can't watch it. The sound design gave me a headache with its loudness and constant squeaking. The older cartoons were quieter and so is the new Mickey Mouse. So if you have sensitive hearing like I do, you shouldn't watch the show.

As I said, the series is perfectly fine, and I wish I could like it because its pretty fun, but the sound design ensures I won't tune in for anymore episodes. However, if you like the show, that's perfectly ok with me.

It's a no from me
Pityuwarrior28 July 2021
I was so impressed, by Disney, when I saw the new DuckTales or the Mickey Mouse shorts the first time. Because these weren't a brainless series and I could enjoy them as a 19 years old.

I can accept the fact that a lot of people might enjoy the new Chip 'N' Dale, but not me for sure.

I really want to see those reboots, what everyone can enjoy and have emotions, great storytelling, character development like the new DuckTales.

This show is clever and really funny!!
lickyfacefilms6 August 2021
I needed a gap filler one night while my wife was watching her soaps in the living room and I gotta say, I was not expecting how good this would be. The visual humour is great (and I love my silent comedy) but sometimes a bit stretched out and it takes Chip and Dale into the modern world in a way you'd think wouldn't be possible

I'm a big kid and I cannot recommend this enough. It is clever, funny, and knows what its doing. The only reason I don't give it a higher rating is because it does there are scenes that drag a bit.

Terrible show that gave my daughter nightmares
doomster1316 August 2021
This show is unimaginative, unoriginal, cheap slapstick comedy in un-Disney like cartoon style (more reminiscent of.the 90s Cow and Chicken, I AM Weasel or even Ren and Stimpy). While the show is not quite as violent nor does contain quite the same disturbing imagery it comes close while being marketed to a much younger audience (it has a rating of 6 in Disney). Some episodes border on horror.

We saw the cartoon featured on my daughters kids profile (she is 7) and I thought this would be a great way to introduce her to the lovable Chip and Dale characters that I remembered watching as a kid (after all the new Duck Tales is great and the re-invention of MIckey every few years works). We watched the first couple of episodes together and I was disappointed to say the least. The mute characters and obnoxious reactions betrayed the story and character driven heroes of old.

But the worst was s1e3 "The Jungle". I left my daughter watching the episode while getting her a snack. She came running to me 5 minutes later upset about the show. Three nights later she still can not fall asleep without tears complaining about bad nightmares the episode gave her. The episode features the characters stuck in an inescapable jungle while being preyed upon by giant owls, praying mantis' and spiders. It culminates in them being captured by an owl and eaten with the owls beak seemingly covered in blood (only to it being revealed in the last 10 seconds that the characters are a alive). This in a cartoon marketed to 6 year olds?!

Now I enjoy adult cartoons. Southpark and "Rick and Morty" are two of my favorite shows but these are shows for adults, not marketed and advertised to kids and not appearing on kids Disney profiles. I expected more from Disney. (this is the first review I ever write I think, just don't know where to complain)

A worthy successor to the Paul Rudish Mickey, though a little too safe (so far)
MasonThe2nd7 August 2021
As a fan of the current Mickey shorts, I was definitely looking forward to this. As a show that is meant to recapture the magic the old cartoons, like MM, it did not disappoint. The animation is fluid and captures the energy of the rubberhose era, the sound design (while I understand can bother some) is adorable and I appreciate that it's dialouge-less so worldwide viewers can enjoy it all the same, and the change in personalities for the title characters honestly opens up more humorous possibilites. The only complaint that I have is that, compared to the modern Mickey shorts, it feels like it's not going far enough. That might change with the next few episodes coming out, but as of the 2 episodes released, it feels like it's somewhat holding back and playing it safe. Other than that, it's really fun and cute so far, and I can't wait to see what else this show has in store!

Just goes to show that Disney doesn't need to make another Rescue Rangers to do something entertaining with Chip and Dale, no matter how much the whiny fanboys complain.

Absolute genius
ptebble11 August 2021
Oh this is brilliant. Very inventive, anarchic, silly and surprising. It's not in any way Rescue Rangers, these are the chipmunks that menaced Donald Duck in the old days. This is a great revival in the spirit of the new Mickey Mouse shows.

Off putting animation style
mgentalen20 August 2021
I'm trying out the new Disney Plus Original's one by one, and sadly, Park Life is a no go for me. As a fan of the original animated show, the animation style on this reboot (?) is just off putting. The animation looks and feels unfinished, not cleaned up and rushed. No disrespect, but this is the type of animation you would find at the Art Institute . What's the deal with Pluto? Did an animator have a "novel idea" to design an iconic character differently? Chip and Dale are iconic character's, this just falls flat.

Why did they change it
sarahmorrow0717 June 2023
Disney use to be amazing with its cartoon animation. The animation for this series and for other cartoons has become a more a ren and stimpy style cartoon and it's awful and comes across cheap. No talking and basic and foolish story lines. I don't like the new cartoons! I feel like I need to leave my brain at the door when I watch this and it's feels like Disney are just trying to make content to fill up Disney plus. This is awful! Bring back the old style animation and storytelling for the cartoons. Makes me question why I'm paying for Disney plus in all Honesty. Extremely disappointing and bad!

Very enjoyable and funny cartoon for all ages
simsbros-892315 October 2021
Its hard to make characters with this kinda longevity feel fresh and entertaining but this show manages to do it. A foreign production, it fits right into modern humorous sensibilities and features a bright colorful new art style but still feels like Chip n Dale. Only now, instead of tormenting Donald, they find adventures on their own turf of a bustling city park. Their neighborhood made up of various rodents and critters, including Clarice, who reappears for the first time in almost 70 years, the show follows the chipmunk Brothers as they find new trinkets, make new friends(and enemies) and generally take part in misadventures.

Its a very slice of life show but like any good series the two central characters keep things alive. If you've been a fan of Chip and Dale for some time, you'll find they feel very familiar here, and thats a good thing. Chip is organized, shrewd and focused, while Dale is carefree, dimwitted and clumsy. Their interactions with the characters and world are well defined by their personalities and make for good humor.

There is absolutely no intelligible dialogue, but rater the characters speak in familiar sounding squeaks(their voices still sound like you'd expect them too) while the visuals and some of the sounds give you a good idea of what they are saying. It was a risky choice doing this but it works very well once you get used to it. The animation does a great job keeping us the viewer up to speed.

The plots are simple but there's plenty to like and a few Disney fan Easter eggs to be found. Very easygoing and carefree show to sit down and watch. Kids will love this and chip and Dale fans will find something to like. Give it it shot.

No dialogue and favorite characters
vladflash8 August 2021
Ruined the original cartoon. Strange characters and lack of dialogue. Too oversimplified, this is not the Chip and Dale that I loved (and many other people).

Pure trash
dean-michael-thornton25 September 2021
This has to be one of the worst shows I've ever seen. Whoever made this was clearly off their meds. Instead of making something new, you destroyed two loveable characters. Disney is a joke. Just bring back rescue rangers and be done with it. This show deserves to be only used for interrogations on repeat.

The simpler, the better.
jucabapa797 October 2021
I was puzzled to see Park Life when I see the first promotional poster that was really out of what we expect from a Chip and Dale cartoon, then the first trailer got me with the funny crybaby moments and decided to give a chance.

First of all, this series put a hard task to the viewer mind: accept that is not related to former versions of the chipmunks such as the classic cartoons or Rescue Rangers (even their reboot in DuckTales or the future movie of Seth Rogen!), these are Chip and Dale defined by a French company that decides to move on with a classic cartoon style mixed with modern themes.

So the dialogs are reduced to gibberish that prevent us to have actual dialog to understand and expect more physical comedy and overrated facial expressions while hearing dramatic tones in the background and squeaking sounds coming out from Chip and Dale.

Also it takes on modern themes, it sells the idea that probably Chip and Dale are not brothers, that Clarice (the love interest in the classic cartoons of the couple) is now a rude but intelligent chipmunk with no chances of seeing some tip of love interest and we see even modern stuff like mobile devices, streaming videos, delivery boxes and even a parody of magician Chris Angel.

But the main theme of the series is to provide joking situations not a dramatic story and this give to very simple, but effective small stories that lead to different shorts that are very funny, some more than others, while sometimes covering dark themes like Death (The Ghost) or love compromise (It takes two to tangle), that while a little risky for kids, are completely funny for adults.

I would say, that the laughs are completely real and, since Covid-19 upbringing, I never laughed so hard to a series like that. This is, so far, the most funny stuff you can find in streaming right now. Don´t judge the design, don´t hold on older versions of the chipmunks, just sit, relax, and laugh.

Oh my god fix the squirrel noises
graceulmer19 October 2021
Look i know they're chipmunks i know they're small but my god even the background music is obnoxious and high pitched. Besides that it's a fine show, good animation and fine stories but listening to it is another story.

False Clarice
acw-131256 October 2021
The real Clarice never acts like that everyone knows that she's a girly girly Lounge singer at the Acorn Club.

Performing, singing, spending time with Chip and Dale. And she wear clothes shopping, looking good helping others and always use good manners in public !

Not a punk rocker , messy, almost barbaric, person tomboyish Floozy. Your Clarice you created in Chip n dale park life is seriously uncouth inside and out no matter how you dissed her look and the worst thing of all she's ball ball like a girl!

Different but fun and often wickedly dark comedy
bbshockwave19 December 2021
I did not expect to like this show based on the first impression, but was I surprised by it!

It's french made, and I find it often today that maybe France is the last bastion of quality cartoons that are fun and also do not push an agenda or talk down to kids, like Wakfu or Vermin, both great shows.

The show has the same setting as the old Chip'n Dale shorts - and similar to those, the characters do not talk. I am surprised by how many people seem to only know these two from Rescue Rangers and are raging against this show, when they would know with 5 seconds googling that a separate Rescue Rangers show (sadly helmed by Seth Rogen) is also coming, so they should save their fake outrage... Our titular characters live in a small park in a big city, and get into all sort of shenanigans. They are good friends with very different personalities, Chip being a neat freak and Dale a wacky goofball, but they love each other and the show really conveys this friendship really well. A lot of other characters recur as well, some well known from other Disney shows like Donald, Pluto, Beagle Boys, Butch, while others are new creations like the "Godsquirrel", the female squirrel running the park mafia. Clarice, a one-appearance-only female chipmunk from the old shorts, was redesigned as a tomboy mechanic and occasional foil to the two boys.

Each 23 minute episode is composed of 3 parts, and they are the perfect length. The humor is balls to the walls fun, often hysterical, despite no dialogue. And they often have some dark humor that is still child-friendly. The scenes where Chip eats raspberries and various misunderstandings make Dale think Chip is turning into a cannibal made me roar with laughter. Similarly, one episode deals with Dale getting ran over by the streetlane stripe painter, and being painted white, everyone thinks he is a ghost... which ends up in his revenge on Butch actually scaring the dog to death. Another episode has Chip and Dale save the Godsquirrel's life, who fires his thugs and hires the two, who are blissfully unaware of what they are actually doing and cheerfully assist her in extorting the park animals at gunpoint (or rather, spider-point).

Donald sadly only appears in one episode, but he is funny as ever. Pluto is a quite often appearing character, though!

Overall the animation is vivid, the scenery is often breath-takingly done in painted backgrounds, while the characters are flash animated. The show has a warm and fun tone, and even the scary episodes I would not feel are too dark for kids - after all, we grew up on old Disney and Tom and Jerry episodes that often had actual character deaths!

My personal favourite Chip 'n' Dale series
malgrenerik22 November 2022
If you're a dedicated die-hard fan of the original Chip 'n' Dale or even "Rescue Rangers," this show may not be for you. But if you like adorable animals, and if you're a big fan of speedy slapstick and overacting (e.g. "Zig and Sharko" or the new "Mickey Mouse") you might give this one a try. Here's are a few differences between this and older Chip 'n' Dale entries and why this one is my personal favorite:

1. Both Chip and Dale have their "clever" moments and their "are you out of your mind" moments. Earlier, Chip was normally the bright one and Dale the.dim-witted one.

2. The new animation style takes their original cuteness from level 5 to level 11.

3. The story-telling is mostly visual, and done well. When Chip and Dale do talk, it's gibberish. At first I was upset that it wasn't sped-up English, but now I find the gibberish to be part of the charm and humor.

4. I hardly laugh at the older Disney cartoons, but I find myself smiling and laughing a lot at the sudden screams, quick pace and unexpected surprises from this show (Chip's present from Dale suddenly explodes, two angry members of a biker gang are suddenly shown to be best friends, etc.)

5. I'm a sucker for how often Chip and Dale hug, dance, high-five and show genuine concern for each other, but at the same time I enjoy hearing how they yell at each other when they goof up.

When they say recommended for those 7 and older, I'd agree, parental guidance suggested. There are a few scary moments played for laughs, in particular moments that suggest murder and blood, although they turn out to be raspberry juice.

Here comes Resorttv1 woohoo!
rbnlrk11 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this on a 2021 cartoon highlights on Youtube. The two chipmunks is out for fun again, as there are an Avenger level of old Disney cameos. The 1st episode is about the chipmunks trying to hide acorns from Pluto and his family. This is a old school short style slapstick comedy like 101 Dalmatians 2019 if you and your family want some light fun on Disney+. No Golden Globe 5 times nominees just some Disney entertainment. I guess this will be the revival decade for these chipmunks as the RR movie awaits this summer, and. Maybe more new chipmunk shorts will be on Disney+.

Season 2, refreshes the unique comedy
fcnzys1 September 2023
Season 1 attempted to recreate the humor of Disney from the 40-60s. It failed miserably at doing this.

Then season 2 manages to make fun of tropes of society, expectations from horror movies, mob films and so much more while being funny, original and silent the entire way through. If you couldn't make it through season 1, I get it. But season 2 is beyond refreshing in a Disney plus without any new wonderful world of Mickey Mouse coming.

I would highly recommend anyone to watch it. My toddler finds it hilarious and my wife and I find it equal part ridiculous and funny. Do yourself and your family a favor and give it a quick watch.
