First things first: do NOT watch this expecting a follow-up to Steel Rain or something even remotely similar to it. Steel Rain 2: Summit is overall a captivating submarine action film that is filled with both a lot of facts and explosions. It's a fast-paced story that keeps transforming from one thing to other throughout its duration, i.e, it starts on a dramatic note, then it has some slightly funny moments and then, nonstop action and tension. I can't exactly compare this to Steel Rain as they're both totally different stories with just some common actors.
The film is initially filled with a lot of historical background of Korean politics which might get heavy for certain viewers, especially those watching with subtitles. But please keep in mind these are integral to the story and serve as a proper buildup for the action-packed second half. The unexpected humor was another good thing to lighten the dramatic impact created by the talking. Then we have intelligently written, spectacular action sequences that stand out as one of the top highlights.
Jung Woo-sung, Yoo Yeon-seok, Kwak Do-won and Angus Macfadyen deliver impressive performances that add to the intense atmosphere of the film. The visual effects seem nicely done, and the cinematography is also quite good. It felt really good to hear the Steel Rain score play in this film too. The target audience of Steel Rain 2: Summit is the one which can enjoy both action as well as political facts. I'm glad I was one of them; I totally enjoyed the film and would completely recommend it.
