I think this movie could have done better. It had the potential. Loved the actors. Brilliant acting. Superb dialogue but something was missing. Probably it's coming from my high expectations Of an amazing beginning of this movie. Overall a good watch. Loved the colour correction.

Delightful

Life affirming and quirky were exactly the words I used about the film as I left the cinema. Lewes has never looked better, but non-Lewsesians cannot fail to be charmed by it. Its gentle and sympathetic comedy is delightful, and one scene is side splittingly hilarious.

Pretty scenery, dismal script.

I wanted to love this. I love Lewes. I love film. What could go wrong?

Starting point was good; some talented actors, and a quirky (but pointless) what we had for breakfast interview. But after quirkiness awkwardness took over, with the sad sight of good actors struggling with a poor script. And it just never really took off. Give it a miss.

A delightful British film.

It is charming, witty and insightful. The performances of the young cast are uniformly good, and the design is unusually pleasing in its intricate details. Well worth seeing!

Loved it

When I read 'A very British Comedy' I thought this film would be my sort of thing. It exceeded my expectations, I loved it. Well observed characters, well acted. Sometimes heartbreakingly accurate portrayal of the difficulties many people have in just getting through life's trials and tribulations with just enough humour to lift you again. I liked the plot, and how it all tied up at the end. The scenery and sets were pretty and quintessentially English. Not all movies have to have dark plots with intricate twists, not all need hundreds of millions of pounds to budget within, not all need Hollywood stars or mind blowing effects. This had none and yet I was compelled to create an IMDb account and share with the reader my opinion.

Quirky, funny and life-affirming

A subtle and gentle comedy, well-acted and directed, and very much a love story to the Sussex town of Lewes. Artistic and quirky, it wraps up with a very satisfying ending, reminding us all to trust in our own creativity.
