- "Sanctuary" is the first single released by Joji following the release of Joji's debut album, BALLADS 1. The word "sanctuary" refers to a safe place in a literal sense, but here Joji is calling his lover "the sanctuary." "Sanctuary" is a ballad song that features Joji's melodic high pitched voice. The song depicts Joji's emotions to a potential lover. The music video and cover artwork both interpolate imagery similar to the TV and movie series Star Trek.
- The plot follows a space crew, deep in space but deep in boredom. After the captain, (Joji) defeats their arch nemesis, they are left with nothing to do and are all thriving for an adventure/excitement. As it follows around one of the crew members who seem to be the only one in charge, as the captain wallows in a depressed state of missing the old days. A lot of flashbacks are shown of the crew fighting the arch nemesis, having fun with one another whilst doing so. And with this, the captain longly stares at his spoon, which provides both him and the crew member a thought. The crew member, however, goes through with this, scooping out his eye and killing one of his crewmates. He escapes the ship with a treasured item (A glowing rock) and plonks his bloody, dis-attached eye into the captain's bowl of cereal. The captain and crew get into their stations, now seeming to be ready and more professional. The captain sits in his seat, and as the scene ends..he has a smile on his face, realizing how his crew member did something he couldn't bring himself to do.—Link0x0
