The relationship between Kara and Lena are unmatched.
pcqhian24 February 2020
Kara and Lena are each others strength. Without Lena, Kara keeps dying and without Kara, Lena lost herself. This is some soulmates thing. Melissa and Katie's chemistry is on another level in this episode.

This episode has finally set the tone of upcoming episodes. Moreover, every actor has performed beautifully in this episode special mention to Katie McGrath. The writing and direction is looking better in this episode. Overall a solid episode after crisis drama.

Loved this episode SO much. The power of a Super and Luthor as life partners is something I hope builds into the canon universe once Lena finally forgives Kara and redeems herself. The Kara/Lena dynamic is unparalleled in chemistry and story!

WTF was that ending??
azzmartyres-5127624 February 2020
I enjoyed everything about this episode except the end, it was very out of character for me so that's that.

Really liked that they didn't bring up willian in this, hope it continues that way

Really LOVED villain Lena. Perfect!

there's still hope for this show

Warning: Spoilers
Geez, how I've missed enjoying this show! THANK YOU, Supergirl writers! It seems that you know how to write episodes that the majority enjoys, you're just choosing not to most of the time. Oh well...

Melissa and Katie were PHENOMENAL at their job! I've loved how easily they slipped in their characters at different points in time. They really know Kara and Lena like no one else and their chemistry is unbelievable. I miss seeing this duo on screen this season. As much as I love Danvers Sisters and Space Dad, Lena and Kara's relationship really is the core of this show. Also, not that I want to see it on regular basis bad Katie going full villain!Lena was HOT, I'm not going to lie!

It was good seeing all these old characters, especially Sam. No other villain will ever be as iconic as Reign was. Sorry, Lex, go bother Superman, we don't want you here! I wish Sam Arias was a recurring character on the show. Lena could use a friend like her.

Kelly as Guardian! Dansen teaming up! WOW! WRITERS WHY ARE YOU NOT DOING ANYTHING WITH THIS CONCEPT!? We want more than a few seconds of this duo! We want more of Kelly being badass! Azie was great and honestly, Kelly as Guardian would be such a concept!

Nia. Holy crap! THIS was the Dreamer we all want to watch on our screens! Let her shine, people! Let her work her magic! Don't hide her and use Nicole's talent. This girl is amazing!

The Danvers Sisters were the only thing I missed. There was too little of them. That talk Kara had with Winn should be between her and Alex.

Tom Lennon was hilarious as Mxy and I miss him already. I wish we could get the same kind of episode but with Mxy giving the same kind of treatment to Lena. Maybe seeing all these different scenarios would snap her out of whatever she's doing now.

This last scene is not sitting well with me. It seemed pretty ooc. I get what Kara was trying to say and I do agree with her, the ball is in Lena's court now. I only have a problem with how cold she sounded. I hope the writers aren't planning anything bad for Lena's future because I'm sure they know the audience wouldn't forgive them such move. I don't trust you, people!

Anyway, I've loved this episode. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! Congrats to everyone on the show. 100 episodes is a huge thing and something to be proud of! I hope the rest of the season will be as good as the 100th ep was and we will all forget about the mess that season 5b has been so far. Give all the women of the show shine and see how the audience will thank you.

Just one more thing. Please, PLEASE, invest in better wigs. I'm begging!

An episode focusing on the kara/lena relationship was long overdue! i get some fans being upset at the lack of danvers sisters moments there were but the midvale episodes exist for that! (i do get we're theyre coming from however); kara willing to give up her identity to save lena's life is one of the oldest superhero romance tropes! this episode shows just how important kara and lena are to each other and i cant wait to see them coming out of this stronger than ever (and perhaps even as lovers 👀) my family loves supercorp so this episode was great. also, the actor who played mxy was fantastic too. overall, job well done supergirl writers and producers

spot the BEWITCHED moment
RavenGlamDVDCollector24 July 2021
Just a short note from somebody who, er, doesn't go so much for the plot...

There is a moment when Supergirl decided to reveal her identity... and with a close-up on her face, well, it wasn't a nose twitch, but there was that moment when she reacted to J'onn telling her how she is so deserving of being treated as generously as the way she so generously treats others... a pull of the mouth...

Find it yourself. I cannot do it justice in words.

Katie McGrath's emotion switch and the chemistry between Melissa and Katie
existentialism876525 February 2020
Katie McGrath is an astonishing actress that was fantastic as she always deliver of-course but seeing her switch emotions in that amount of time it was stunning, the chemistry between the two characters apparently i've watched the show always saw the chemistry but there is something about this episode that i would not be surprised if i found one person wanting them to be in a romantic couple/ maybe its just me. overall the episode was beautiful there is still hope after all

The Joy of Possibilities...?
AgDave007 June 2020
This show has at once been interesting AND frustrating, for very normal reasons. As a human being, each one of us understands the struggle between what we should say and what we DO say. I know there wouldn't be a show if each of the characters handled things rightly in every situation. And it was be patently false and not true to our life experience. With that said, this review is difficult to write because I do not want to offend anyone, but it may be unavoidable.

With all superhero shows and movies, you see the external struggle against some evil while they also have an internal struggle. Because of the nature of movies, and the roll out times being much further apart, the "messages" of the heroes being good and the bad guys being bad is more powerfully nuanced with their own failings - not the least of which is how often they need help. But since I've been watching several episodes of this a day, a recurring theme from "Supergirl" and those who work/live near her, have made the differences between Supergirl (the show) and other shows I've seen is marked in its contrast.

Part of the joy of life is the unknown. There is a joy that can be found in the myriad possibilities - both in our choices and the choices of others, but then the outcomes of those choices as well! But in Supergirl, the possibilities are predictable, which challenges the viewer to reject part of that human joy of wondering what will happen, i.e. what comes next. So what possibilities have been removed from Supergirl, and therefore from my viewing experience? Simply this: I know (A) the following scenes in ANY of the shows will lead (B) HERE:

  • Kara/Supergirl will doubt herself/choices, but other characters will express she always does what's right (even if it doesn't turn out well).
  • Lena will believe herself righteous and good and be agreed with, but the very things she hates about others is what she herself does (but that's when it's okay).
  • When crossover heroes join the show, they too will exalt Supergirl as the best of them, but her choices are clearly not always the best despite the ego strokes.
  • When Superman shows up to "help" with a problem he will be spoken of as essential, but he will both 1) fail where Supergirl does not and 2) tell her she's always been stronger/wiser/better than him.

After awhile, you have to realize that radical feminism has influenced the show to an unreasonable degree. As a father of a daughter, I want her to know her ability and strength more than anyone. I ALSO know she will fail often and fall HUGE unless she doesn't also understand her absolutely horrible selfishness and self-serving behaviors and justifications of her abhorrent behavior. Thing is, I have a son and I'm teaching him the same thing. They both need to learn that their shared weakness doesn't become a strength just by trying to paint it as such. "My weakness is I care too much. I'm wrong to always seek another's good over my own. I'm sorry that I love you so much it brings you pain." Come on. Really? It's not truth; it's false humility wrapped in self-righteousness.

And it's gotten old. It's tired, but expected. Curiosity keeps me watching, not any joy about possibilities... When the crisis comes up, it's possible that the show's writers will surprise me by writing Supergirl as a believably understandable character. But it's not likely.

why the drama?
glstrom-1426025 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know how it became so important to spend weeks vacillating about the state of Lena and Kara's "friendship". Who cares? They keep looking for ways to keep Lena the genius relevant and the most powerful woman on the planet can't function because she thinks Lena is mad at her. Why not go back in time and kill luthor once and for all before he could tell Lena that Supergirl is her bestie Kara Danvers? Why couldn't the genius figure out that there were perfectly good reasons for her not to know her identity (like having it tortured out of her someday) or for a second imagine Kara without glasses and ....whoah, you really look like Supergirl. Grow up or get out of town and stop wasting our time Lena, pity party is over.

So good! A must watch.
MazeMadnessWriter24 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is SO good!

I've not rated the last few episodes highly at all, I've felt like since Crisis the writing has been all over the place, but THIS episode was so good.

I was initially sad they were not bringing back Peter Gadiot to play Mxyzptlk because he was fantastic, but the characters redemption storyline in this episode makes sense for his character to be played by someone else and appear in a different form (still charming, but lighter). Not only that, but Thomas Lennon's take on Mxyzptlk is simply excellent. Supergirl really got it on point by casting him. As he guides Kara through key moments of the SG timeline in an attempt to fix her relationship with Lena, despite other characters caution, and at times even Karas own hesitance, his portrayal never once leaves you questioning his motives. His humorous and entertaining dialogue throughout helps keep light at times what are dark and intimate moments of Kara's life.

I was absolutely thrilled at the return of Sam, she is one of my favourite characters and I wish they could have kept Odette on the show for longer (though Sam/Reigns character Arc had served its purpose so realistically I understand this wasn't possible). Seeing her as both Sam and Reign was great. Returning as well was Mon-El and Winn, and whilst I did appreciate their cameos I'm glad they didn't give Winn too much screen time because he's had far too much of it lately.

My only criticism is one that is relevant to the whole of season five, and that is a lack of screen time and credible story lines with substance for Nia, Kelly and Alex. This is felt significantly for Alex in this episode given it is the 100th episode. Quite frankly these characters deserve better, but that is a more general statement for the show overall and something I hope Supergirl will fix, and quickly.

Finally, the performances of Melissa and Katie, as per usual, cannot be overstated enough. It is widely acknowledged that both are fantastic in their roles, and when combined are electrifying, but this episode really showcases both of their abilities. The chemistry between them (and I'm not talking about the commonly used ship 'supercorp'), is an absolute gift and at times I'm not sure the show even knows what to do with it. In the 100th, we see an unreal range of heartbreaking and exciting scenarios of Kara attempting to repair her friendship with Lena that only these two could honestly pull off.

The what if concept was very well used during the episode. Certain characters of the show are back, like Mon-El, Reign and Agent Liberty. Finally in the end Kara was really badass and I didn't expect it.

Amazing episode!
munrogmclaren24 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was truly amazing. I loved seeing all the different timelines. I'm glad that kara was able to see different outcomes if she had made different decisions.

In the two we do see Lena come around in the end. In the first one, Kara died in the first one because Lena couldn't save her in time. Though I did love how Sam made sure Lena and o think even the audience knew that Lena was a hero and not a villain when she saved same and made kryptonite. Also, Kara yelled out to the TV that Lena was a villain and how could she think that and then at the end said Lena will be treated like a villain which showed me the ending scene was to get Lena to snap out of it. Kara truly doesn't think Lena is a villain. But she has the capacity to be one.

In the second one, Lena died after Reign killed her, it showed that Lena will come around in the end even if it truly doesn't seem like she will. Seeing Lena die in Kara's arms was horrible. And if you notice closely, her last words are, "Kara." Then Mon-El went on a rampage and killed Sam while in turn getting killed himself. And Kara told Mxy to bring her back.

The third one has go to be my favorite. It really showcases how it would be like if Kara and Lena a Super and a Luthor were working together. Though, I don't think Agent Liberty killing off all her friends was the right way to go. I think there could have been different outcomes. Also, why did the public have to know that Lena knew Supergirl's identity. If they didn't, I think this timeline would have played out differently. But anyways, the third timeline didn't work as well. Though it was my favorite.

I have to say, I liked Mon-El's advice to Kara regarding Lena. I hope it sticks with her.

Regarding the ending, it was needed to be said. Lena's worst fear is becoming the villain and like Kara said, if Lena continues down this path, she will have now choice but to treat her like one. Kara wasn't calling Lena a villain at the moment. But, having Lena hear this from her (ex) best friend, has got to hurt. I definitely think we will see Lena second guessing herself in the upcoming episodes. Robert Rovner abd Jessica Queller, Supergirl's showrunners, did an interview with Entertainment Weekly and Rovner said that we will see Lena second guessing herself and contemplating what she's doing.

I truly don't think Lena will go through with Non Nocere. Yes, I know in 5x14 she moves forward with it. But who's to say at the end of the episode she stops herself? She'll have to do it quietly though because Lex definitely has plans for Non Nocere.

So yes, I do think by the end of the season, Lena will have come around or be close to fully coming around. Rovner said they (Kara and Lena) will come full circle at the end end of the season. So that's my hope. That they will become friends again. This interview just cemented it.

10/10 episode. Great performances by all! I loved seeing all the cameos! I've missed Odette so much! Sam was a very missed character. I'm sad Calista want able to make her schedule work to appear in the episode, but I'm glad they referenced her.

I'm hopeful for the rest of the season. :)

First review, ever!
lil_bear-8379325 February 2020
Don't watch this show regularly, only contact with its protagonist is on the crossovers. This was an amazing episode! I'm also biased because i'm a Thomas Lennon fan. The inclusion of.. Mxylptlk (not looking it up) and his portrayal was cute, captivating and comedic. The episode is also a mini catch-up through the perspective of Kara and Lena's relationship as the seasons pass. As far as filler episodes of the Arrowverse type i.e. musicals, alternate artistic portrayals or Groundhog day, this one was good.

An important life lesson

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was so helpful that I had to open IMDb and rate the episode and share my opinion, we've all seen the guilt that Kara had since things went south with Lena.. this episode had a lot of clarity and really important life lesson specially the last thing Kara said that she knows she made a mistake and she just need to move on without letting this guilt be such a burden on her shoulder every time she sees or hears Lena! Sometimes we make a mistake and we let our past affect our present which may lead us making other mistakes in the future.. Thanks dear producers for such an inspirational episode.

Her relationship with Lena is boring. I don't care if they are friends or not. Katie Mcgrath is an aweful actress with no emotional range.

Supergirl celebrates 100 episodes with one of its best episodes!
RahulM00724 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Supergirl has been hit and miss for the past couple of seasons. However, I have to admit that this episode amazed me in so many ways. I have not been this amazed since the season 3 mid season finale titled "Reign." Much like the 100th episodes of Arrow and the Flash, Supergirl's 100th episode served as a tribute episode and a love letter to the fans (wink wink Supercorp fans). The episode dealt with Kara Danvers traveling through time with the help of Mxy and trying to salvage her strained relationship with Lena. I loved that this episode references "It's a Wonderful Life" as it has a similar storyline. The nod to the 90s sitcom "Friends" where we see the VHS tapes all starting with "The one with/where" was quite neat. It was perhaps not intentional, but still a fun reference.

I loved the inclusion of Mon-El, Reign and Ben Lockwood in this episode. Supergirl sharing a poignant scene with Mon-El was truly deserving. They will always be my OTP of the show. Their relationship is one of the reasons why season 2 is my favorite season of Supergirl.

Nia Nal aka Dreamer suiting up was one of my favorite moments of this episode. It is quite disappointing that she was absent for two episodes. Luckily, we got to see one brief Nia Nal and Brainy scene. Granted, it was in a dystopian future, but I still count it.

To conclude, the 100th episode of Supergirl fittingly titled "It's a Super life" is a intriguing and action packed episode that leaves me wanting more. Although, the episode did not resolve Lena's conflict with Kara, it still manages to make Kara realize that Lena has changed and will never forgive her. I am enthused to see what happens next now that Kara officially sees Lena as a villain. This episode makes me more invested in this season than before.
