  Malefic J'onzz : What do you know of hurt? When the ones you love turn their back on you, that's pain. But you'll see, when you suffer the way you made me suffer. You can't touch me without hurting yourself.

• Alex Danvers : I don't understand why you are defending him. He betrayed you and all of the Green Martians during the war. They were slaughtered because of him.

  J'onn J'onzz : I'm just really sorry he's doing this.

  Alex Danvers : Well, you have nothing to be sorry about. Okay? This isn't your fault. It's mine. It is killing me that Kelly is in danger because of me and my job, and I am terrified that he's gonna use me somehow to get to her, and I just keep praying that she's safe.

  J'onn J'onzz : I would never let anything happen to her.

  Alex Danvers : You can't promise that. I know that you are trying to make me feel better, I do. But I won't, not until that monster is taken care of.

  J'onn J'onzz : You do what you need to do to feel safe. But I'm not giving up on Brainy.

• Alex Danvers : Hey, Brainy. What the hell happened? Malefic should not have been able to phase through the Phantom Zone projector. And our psychic inhibitors, he... he fried them.

  Querl Dox : Malefic's brain is unlike any other Green Martian. I tried to calibrate both to his unique physiology, but...

  Alex Danvers : That was our one shot at tricking him. He could be after the real Kelly, my Kelly, right now.

  Supergirl : We're not gonna let that happen. There's gotta be another way we can track him. Something we're missing. What did he yell at you, J'onn? Synd'ar'k?

  J'onn J'onzz : I... I don't know. It's a... it's a dialect I've not heard before.

  Alex Danvers : We can't afford any more mishaps. I'm having the Verdex Blaster brought up from the armoury.

  Supergirl : What?

  J'onn J'onzz : Alex! That Verdex Blaster was designed by Hank Henshaw to kill Green Martians. Specifically me! It's a last resort!

  Alex Danvers : Hank Henshaw was wrong about you, but Malefic is exactly the kind of Martian that this blaster was designed for.

  Supergirl : Hang on, wait, wait, wait! Let's not rush in, uh, because if we had had the Verdex Blaster, Malefic could have incepted one of us to use it on J'onn. Let's at least have Brainy try and fix it first.

  Supergirl : What?

  J'onn J'onzz : Alex. That Verdex Blaster was designed by Hank Henshaw to kill Green Martians, specifically me. It's a last resort.

  Alex Danvers : Hank Henshaw was wrong about you, but Malefic is exactly the kind of Martian that this blaster was designed for.

  Supergirl : Hang on, wait, wait, wait. Let's not rush into this. Because if we had had the Verdex Blaster, Malefic could've incepted one of us to use it on J'onn. Let's at least have Brainy try to fix it first.

  Alex Danvers : Okay. Okay.

  Querl Dox : Excellent. I shall adjust the Phantom Zone projector's wavelengths so Malefic cannot phase through it while simultaneously recalibrating the psychic inhibitor frequencies, all to distract myself from my broken heart.

  Alex Danvers : [confused]  Uh, what?

  Querl Dox : What? Nothing. Why? W-What did you hear?

• Querl Dox : Sprock. I seem to have made the beam more dense instead of less. Let's go again.

  J'onn J'onzz : Just give me a minute.

  Lena Luthor : Okay, J'onn, you can't keep putting yourself through this punishment.

  J'onn J'onzz : I'm fine.

  Lena Luthor : No. You're not, you can barely stand. And we need you at full strength for when we find your brother.

  J'onn J'onzz : I told you, I...

  Lena Luthor : I will help Brainy, so Alex doesn't have to use the blaster. Now go clear your head.

• Querl Dox : I want to remind you again, this is liable to be quite painful. Until we calibrate the Phantom Zone projector to lock onto a Martian energy signature, regardless of the Martian's density, so they can't phase through it.

  J'onn J'onzz : I'm ready when you are.

  Querl Dox : Commence phasing at 25%.

  [as Brainy turns it on, J'onn groans in pain] 

  Querl Dox : [putting it down]  Sprock, sprock, sprock.

  J'onn J'onzz : I'm okay. I'm okay.

  Lena Luthor : What went wrong?

  Querl Dox : It was too much. Too much, too much.

  Lena Luthor : I'm almost done reinforcing the psychic inhibitors, so I can help you, if you want it.

  Alex Danvers : [entering]  I heard the scream. What happened?

  Querl Dox : [muttering as he works]  How, how...

  Alex Danvers : Brainy?

  Querl Dox : Yeah, I'm... I'll figure it out, all right? I'll f... figure it all out.

  Alex Danvers : I'm sorry, J'onn, we need all of our options on the table. I'm prepping the blaster.

• J'onn J'onzz : Where are we with the Phantom Zone projector and psychic inhibitors?

  Lena Luthor : Reconfigured and recalibrated.

  Agent Sloan : Supergirl, the Verdex Blaster is missing, and the armory's cleared out of anti-Martian artillery. It's all gone.

  Supergirl : We have to find Alex now.

  J'onn J'onzz : There is a way. I could try and find her psychically.

  Querl Dox : Malefic's mind is poisonous to all Green Martians. Melding with Alex's incepted mind would allow Malefic into yours. It could hurt you.

  J'onn J'onzz : All that matters is finding Alex.

• J'onn J'onzz : On a clear day, you can see the moons of Mars from here. Today's not a clear day.

  Alex Danvers : I found out what you've done, J'onn. You lied to all of us. You put us in jeopardy so that you could protect yourself. Keep your secret safe. That you mind-wiped the existence of your own brother...

  J'onn J'onzz : Alex, I wanted to tell you, but I was so... I was so ashamed.

  Alex Danvers : I confided in you how this was tearing me apart. How I thought that I was the one putting Kelly in danger, and you just stood there, knowing that it wasn't my fault. That it was yours. You had me convinced that Malefic was the monster, but he wasn't just some bad guy coming after people. He was some bad guy that you created coming after your family, and again you just stood there, and you let us suffer the consequences.

  J'onn J'onzz : I know.

  Alex Danvers : You may say that you erased Malefic to protect your family, to protect M'yrnn. Or you did it because it was easier than helping him.

  J'onn J'onzz : No. No, no.

  Alex Danvers : Malefic isn't the monster here, J'onn. You are.

• Alex Danvers : So, Malefic's back in the Phantom Zone? I'm sorry that you couldn't save him, J'onn. I know that that's what you wanted to do. But I heard everything that you said to him.

  J'onn J'onzz : I just wish he could've taken it in. But maybe now that I remember, I'll have a chance to make things right at some point.

  Alex Danvers : How could you ever think that I would say those things or think those things about you?

  J'onn J'onzz : I guess because I thought those things about myself.

  Alex Danvers : Well, I remember you telling me once that true character reveals itself in times of hardship. And I know who you really are.

• J'onn J'onzz : A synd'ar'k is a sinner. That's what Malefic yelled at me. I asked Nia to use her dream power to help me find the truth about my brother, about the mind wipe. That's when we discovered...

  [sighing] 

  J'onn J'onzz : My brother wasn't born evil. He had a problem. And we... ostracized him. I wiped Malefic's existence from our minds. It was me. I did this. I failed my people more than once. I'm failing you.

  Supergirl : No. No, you've saved us countless times. I would've been dead last year, when the Earth was seeded with kryptonite, if it weren't for you.

  J'onn J'onzz : Still... wiping him from our mind? It's like I murdered my own brother.

  Supergirl : But you remember now. You risked your own life to find those memories, and now you can find him and make different choices.

  J'onn J'onzz : It was so selfish of me to... burden Nia with my secret, and keep this from you and Alex. But I'm-I'm glad Nia told her. She deserves to know the truth, and so do you.

  Supergirl : It couldn't have been Nia. She's been with me.

  J'onn J'onzz : [realizing]  That was Malefic. He incepted Alex.

• J'onn J'onzz : I never should have banished you. I know that now. I've lived on Earth for over 300 years. But I never really found true peace. And I believe it's because of what I did to you, Malefic. You didn't betray us. By aligning with the White Martians, we betrayed you. We tried to fix you. Change you. When all along, we should've accepted you. I accept you now, brother.

  Alex Danvers : No!

  J'onn J'onzz : Yes. You forced me to look inside myself and discover memories I had erased. You did it to try and punish me. But... don't you see you've given us a second chance? It's not too late for us, brother. It's not... too... late.

  [sticking a device into Alex's ear] 

  Alex Danvers : [seeing the blaster in her hands]  Oh, my god. What have I done?

• Malefic J'onzz : On Mars, you had nothing but cruelty for me. Where did this love and forgiveness come from?

  J'onn J'onzz : From my family.

  Malefic J'onzz : Family is supposed to destroy you.
