Please don't...

Warning: Spoilers
...make Kara and Lena lovers. Dreamer and Braniac, the sister and Olsen's sister, I mean seriously, ain't that enough saluting to the LGBTQ support squad? Heck, I can't think of one hetero relationship currently on the show!

No no no

Until now Lena Luthor was one of my favorite characters, but I am really hating what they are doing with the character. How can Kara not realize that Lena is lying and manipulating her, for a secret that is not as if Kara had an obligation to tell her but decided to tell her anyway (Lena is having an incomprehensible anger towards Kara ).

Supercorp is endgame.

No "bestfriend" flies across the country to get her "best friends" favorite food. Supercorp is endgame.

SO GOOD

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was phenomenal in the way they tied in the story with all the romantic pairs without it overriding how this is first and foremost a superhero show. I love how there were little hints of parallels between Brainy/Nia and Kara/Lena with "food as a love language" set up in the previous episodes. And the editing was amazing at the end tying in Alex/Kelly to Kara/Lena-- those two relationships are incredibly strong. That balcony scene was truly beautiful!

So Kara can tell when William Day is lying but not when Lena is?
bearcatjb25 October 2019
Even when Lena is overacting so badly that a normal, non-super person, a person without Kara's abilities, would be given pause, and just ask themselves, "What is going on?"

How convenient.

But "convenient" marks the theme of the series for season 5.

Isn't it just so convenient that Lena has this incomprehensible rage towards Kara, motivating her every questionable action, because Kara dared to keep a secret from her. A secret that was Kara's right to keep, and the keeping of had no impact on the quality of Lena's life, nor on her well-being nor to her happiness.

It is one thing keeping a secret from someone who has every right to know, especially if the keeping of said secret makes their life worse, but keeping a secret that has no ill effect, nor is really any of their business unless you choose make it so?

Juxtapose Kara not telling Lena her secret, which Lena didn't really need to know, with: 1. Nia telling J'onn a secret she found out, that he needed to know; and with 2. J'onn not telling said secret, to the rest of the team, which arguable they should know to get a better grip on their new enemy; and with 3. Nia finally telling Brainy how she felt about his smothering ways. The Supergirl/Lena scenario is pretty trite in comparison.

Then convenience number 2: Isn't it convenient that Andrea Rojas is able to rule Catco like a despot by holding non-compete contracts above employee's heads? Non-compete contracts that in reality are impossible to enforce, especially if it means a person is prevented from working at their livelihood in order to make a living? (Yet no one questions this!)

Kara accuses William Day of being unethically, but as far as I can see, SHE is being extremely unethical if she chooses to stay and work under Andrea's conditions, and not quit and walk out. Perhaps she could then work on her own blog, as she did a few seasons back when the then editor didn't want her. In her secret identity, Kara is Supergirl, this should mean something to her as a person; she shouldn't allow herself to remain in a work environment that is so morally reprehensible, dishonourable and unprincipled.

Kara, you are Supergirl, you stand for something in the community, now stand for something to yourself, and as a consequence, to all your co-workers at Catco. Supergirl/Kara represents a higher standard than William Day. Be true to yourself.

(Jimmy had no problem doing so, but Supergirl, for all her wholesome and goodness, and morality and ethics, can't? Huh!? Kara should have been out the door before Jimmy, and setting up a competitive - yes "competitive"- news-blog"!)

(Or even her own newspaper! - If Iris can do it in THE FLASH, so can Kara- Imagine if in her own newsblog/newspaper, she had a personal interview with the inspirational Supergirl once a month or so?)

But this would be inconvenient for the writers.

Writers all these seasons past, you set Supergirl (and Kara alternatively) as a moral community voice, a symbol of peace love and hope, an affirming voice in the midst of darkness, chaos and despair, proffering inspiration to do good, to be better, to change the world in a better, more positive way. Then you have Kara kowtowing to Roja's standards, and willingly remain in this toxic and immoral work environment: For the viewer, seeing this, it is hard to keep the bile from coming up to the back of our throats.

This is especially so when Kara -the voice that spoke against discrimination, against everything Agent Liberty stood for, the voice that used the power of the press to set things right after Lex Luther's machinations, last season- whines and moans to Lena, to Jimmy, to her sister about it, but then does nothing to change it.

These writers are using the aforementioned "convenience" to create artificial, forced tension and conflict, purely contrived storylines that wouldn't exist if our heroes actually behaved true to themselves.

The answer: get better writers who can give us real, organic, natural tensions and conflicts, within the contexts of the characters being real to themselves.

I am beside myself...
ekohnkohn21 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I guess the writer's are finally getting it together and letting Kara and Lena end up a couple! Kara's nervousness for lunch, the way Kara flew to THREE different cities to pick up Lena's favorite foods (right after telling Nia that food was a love language)(also probably VERY early in the morning because fancy bakeries in Europe run out of the good stuff early and it's a ~8hr time difference), the willingness to do anything for Lena, the longing look through Lena's balcony window, the editing cuts between Supercorp and Dansen, the way Kara compared her relationship with Lena to Alex's relationship with her girlfriend, that incredibly romantic song, and the way Lena's eyes both soften and looked remorseful at the same time. NONE of that is platonic, and all of it together specifically reads as romantic.

Supercorp is coming!
cmndrlex22 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I know Melissa said it'd be rocky road ice cream but I didn't realize just how sweet the Supercorp moments really would be! I'm praying to Rao Lena stops fighting her obvious feelings towards Kara! It's clear she's warring with herself multiple times in this ep & Hope seems to be the catalyst to the worst of it! The fight for Lena continues!

Dansen was cute but hate that Kelly was sent away so early in their relationship. On the one hand, I love how concerned Alex is for Kelly, but on the other, she seems more stressed and less confident than she'd normally be in this situation.

I didn't really appreciate the turn DreamDox took though. I am very much with Brainy on this and think Nia could have found a better way to ask him to tone it down a little.

I get what happened with Malefic but don't understand how he got so corrupted so quickly but I guess J'onn was right, he was born bad and was just looking for an excuse.

Wonderful Ep!
wkdrxmesupat22 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Loved Kara so desperate to make sure her relationship with Lena in this new place in her life starts off on the right foot and loved Alex encouraging that. Really hurt for Brainia this ep though. J'onn's story with his brother is heartbreaking. And was so worried for Kelly! Hope she comes back soon! Gotta day loved how Supercorp had so many romantic undertones this episode and the way it paralleled not only the dansen relationship but also old school classic clois balcony scenes! You could see the guilt getting to Lena all over her face when Kara left the first time and how she's starting to believe Kara really never meant to hurt her and truly does love her. Really hope Lena overcomes this emotional angst soon and takes her proper place at Kara's side!

KARA has never shown any interest in Lena other than a platonic friendship.

What is happening?
stevensalvi1 November 2019
The lipstick, the hair...is Supergirl now a fanboys Barbie? I've lost respect in the character they were building. Melissa Benoist is way above this for what she has accomplished with the show. The pants work well to mature the character but the rest puts it to waste.
