Another high school cheerleader whodunit!
Chartreuse15 October 2020
Darcy wants to try out for the cheer squad and makes a bad enemy of Taylor, who's the captain of the squad and who also is jealous and feels threatened by her. Then an accident and murder happen and Darcy becomes a target and more accusations pile up against her. Is Taylor behind it all? You'll have to tune in to find out. Above-average for a Lifetime movie with a good script and some fresh faces.

Even a ten (10) year old could figure this one out - I guess a twelve (12) year old wrote the script

This must have been written by a twelve (12) year old because the plot was so thin than even a Grade 5 child could figure out who the whack job was in this thriller DULLER. Girls can be so caddy and petty and I guess that is why these type of dull and boring killer cheerleader films are made every year.

I give it a 4 out of 10 IMDB rating.

Perfect high school thriller!

Warning: Spoilers
I was definitely surprised by this new teen thriller. Not a bad one at all. The identity of the killer is kept a secret until the end, all you know from certain scenes is that the killer is a girl. The movie is about a rivalry between a new student and two other cheerleaders, one being the most popular girl in school and the cheer captain. As their rivalry heats up, someone begins to kill people. There are a few clues thrown in on who the killer could possibly be, but it was a nice surprise. The main girls aunt, who usually plays a crazy person in other lifetime movies, was actually a good character in this one. The attack scene towards the end was fun to watch. This movie does deal with mental illness in a way as well. Overall, this is a good one!!

If you want a good laugh, watch this awesomely bad movie!

Some lifetime movies are pretty good but I've never seen one so over AND under acted in my life! 🤔 The beginning scene where Darcy has a rag shoved in her mouth to stop her from screaming is so ridiculous and unrealistic, I LOL'd. How many women (and she is a woman, she doesn't even look like a teenager to me!) do you know, in this day and age, would keep a washcloth in their mouth that isn't even duct-taped to their heads? One knows one's first reaction would be to push it out with one's tongue in order to scream! It's an automatic reflex so one doesn't gag or smother! 🙄Watching this girl keep this rag in her mouth scene after scene had me in stitches! 😂 Also, the school fights between Darcy and her protagonist- so dumb and unrealistic! 😒Was LAMO 😂😂 Also, in this day and age, it would not have been hair pulling and rolling around on the ground, it would have been flat out punching in the face or some kind of defensive moves! 😐 This is supposed to be a cheerleading movie but even the few cheerleading moves that they bothered to show were gauche.

And the principal, what a joke! After Darcy and the protagonists little rolling around scene on the ground, he made them get up and apologize like third graders! 😳These ladies are in high school! In the real world you would have had your ass suspended and sent home! All he gave them was detention which the director never bother to show.

The only redeeming factor in this movie was that the psycho who was harming and killing the cheerleaders, was kind of a mystery. It was something that you did not guess right away though it didn't take long.

Fun Cheer-Junkfood :)
cecilbeltwayblog24 October 2020
I've watched probably ALL of the Lifetime network cheerleader genre movies, this one is a *slight* standout among most. Deliciously aweful teen angst amidst the popular beautiful jock in-crowd, wrapped in a 'whodunnit' twist (that surprisingly took me a little longer than usual to figure out!)

Acting from this relatively young, green cast is pretty good, B+/A-, plot twist was not 100% predictable, and the overall production was one of the better among the LMN cookie cutter teen cheer genre. I regard these movies as Junkfood - no oscar winning performances, but entertaining to poke fun & giggle at!

my only real criticism is that there's not enough actual CHEER scenes in this (as it IS a cheerleader oriented movie!), but there are a couple of 'standard' LMN scenes where we get to hear Lifetime's standard cheer soundtrack music.. also, my guess is they're reusing the same couple of actual real athletes (flyers, tumblers etc) in any real cheering scenes as in all other recent LMN cheer movies.. it's a theory haha. :)

Overall, I'd give it a B+ grade. have fun binging it along with all your other cheer-faves!

How about no?

NO, Don't see it. It's not worth your time. And also got the feeling it should have been a serie instead of a movie..

An okay watch

A likable cast can lift a so-so script into a watchable movie. That what happens with "Dying to be a Cheerleader". The script is paint-by-numbers Lifetime fare but the cast is very appealing, especially a dreamy Ashlynn Yennie. Yennie isn't given much to do in the first half of the movie but she gets a lot more screen time in the second half. The second half the story picks up as well. Overall, I enjoyed watching "Dying to be a Cheerleader" but I'm not so sure it's going to get a second watch from me.

SO BAD IT'S FUNNY!

I had a serious belly laugh on this movie: one girl says to the other, "I have a boyfriend!" The other girl tells her, "with that face!" It struck me funny and worth watching this rubbish just for that! Classic line!
