Pretty decent lifetime movie
aprilsfriendorin1 November 2020
This is a pretty solid Lifetime thriller- there's some drama, action, and mystery. Pretty original compared to other lifetime movies. Nothing revolutionary, but hey, it's lifetime.

Bizarre movie with an even stranger plot!
Chartreuse128 May 2020
Taylor becomes an au pair to a wealthy couple who have a young daughter and finds out how strange they really are and hiding a dark secret. What could it be? The beginning of the movie was innocent enough but the movie unraveled after an hour and completely fell apart with too much overacting and a handsome dude who never appears! Disappointed!

Well, that's an hour and a half I'll never get back.

Started off promising (for a Lifetime movie). You always knew who the "bad guy" was, and expected some big twist, but it never really happened. Like other reviews said, nothing was ever explained, although, by the end, you kind of stopped caring. I actually like cheesy Lifetime movies, but this cheese was moldy. (Ok, that's bad, but I had to do it!)

Nanny Dumbo

And the award for The dumbest lead, waste of time screenwriter, non existent director, terrible script goes to this tosh!

Worse film ever.

Dumb nanny . .. on intro mom shouts . .Emily what are you doing out of your room . .nanny . .. hi I'm Emily what is your name?

Only good thing about this flick was Brytnee Ratledges denim shorts.

My true rating is 0.

Awful

Warning: Spoilers
I love a cheesy made for TV movie but this one was awful, nothing made sense and how did Taylor end up with Emily at the end? I don't know anything about the fostering or adoption service in the US but do they just give recently orphaned children to their Nanny's that have been doing the job for weeks? Taylor didn't have a job or a place to live 😂😂😂

Fun flick

Enjoyed this little thriller. The nanny character is actually played by a good actress!! It's straight forward but enjoyable. The plot never drags and the acting is pretty good.

Ridiculous

Warning: Spoilers
At first it's interesting to see what happens to the girl after moving in with the strange family. Silly ending. The ending doesn't bother to explain things logically. What sort of obsession is this one? What's going to happen to the kid?

House of Horrors

Warning: Spoilers
In "The Au Pair Nightmare," there really is something special about Brad. On the one hand, Brad was the fiancé of the protagonist Taylor. But there is also a celebrity television actor named Brad Hardwick who figures prominently in the action.

Taylor is attempting to get a fresh start on her life after grieving the loss of Brad, who was killed by a drunken driver. Against the wishes of her feisty sister Kara, Taylor accepts a job as an au pair for a strange couple in an isolated spot in Mill Valley.

The man is Dr. John Caleb, a congenial pediatrician. But the wife, Alessandra, is a dragon lady and one of better villains in recent memory. A shortcoming of the film was in Taylor's inability to recognize early on that Alessandra was a complete psycho and leave her job.

Against her better judgment, Taylor remains in the job of overseeing the Calebs' child Emily, who seems to be perpetually locked in her room. In the most improbable backstory imaginable, the parents believe that Alessandra was impregnated actor Brad Hardwick. They have spent years of their lives in protecting the child from "the boogeyman" they believe to be Hardwick coming to get little Emily.

At a turning point in the film, the quick-thinking Taylor decides to run a DNA test on Emily. The results are startling to everyone, especially Dr. Caleb. It was unfortunate that a casualty of the film was young Luke, the nice supermarket delivery boy who became collateral damage.

A theme of the film was the courage it takes to move on from the past. Through the support of her strong-willed sister Kara, Taylor is eventually able to return to college after ridding herself of the sinister au pair job.

The filmmakers were successful in reversing the typical cliché of a crazed nanny or au pair. In this case, it was the employer who was deranged. The best line in the film was spoken by the intelligent young Emily, who was able to see clearly enough to recognize who was the real boogeyman (woman?) in her life.

Pretentious

Warning: Spoilers
One of the worst films I've ever seen. It sounds and looks promising but then develops into a ridiculous plot and unrealistic ending. The wife does a lot of grimacing to the extent that it becomes silly. It's not clear at the end who is looking after the daughter.

If Glen Close's character had child after Fatal Attraction it would be Allesandra! One of the few LMN movies I sit through and was hooked from get go. Well done.

If you've seen The Captive Nanny..
artzgrrl22 June 2020
If you saw The Captive Nanny that played earlier in the week, then you already know the plot of The Au Pair Nightmare. This movie doesn't just ask you to suspend disbelief, it also asks you to suspend all thinking. The plot is filled with holes. The acting is below the Lifetime standard Lifetime for acting (which is saying a lot). From the beginning of the film, you will keep asking yourself what is going on. Then the ending is weird because it doesn't exactly explain the "why". Stay away from this one (and The Captive Nanny).

Worst Lifetime Movie Ever
spatelaus7 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't normally write reviews for Lifetime movies, but I feel I have to warn others about this one.

My problem with it was that plot made absolutely no sense. It was made to look as if the couple had stolen their daughter (nobody had ever seen the wife pregnant) but the real story was that the father was supposed to be some famous actor who was threatening to come and steal the daughter away. But it was all made up - for what? What was the purpose? And the stupid husband just goes and kills the delivery boy, because he apparently had something to do with it all? It was all such a waste of time.

I don't expect much from Lifetime, but usually there is a decent plot - not the case with this one. Definitely the worse Lifetime movie I've ever seen.
