Very sharp, very edgy and very funny.

The 1/10 ratings must be from either very sensitive people with innocent senses of humour (in which case, no problem but then Katherine Ryan is a strange choice for you) or the type of man so insecure in themselves that they immediately find any jokes made about men by a woman as a personal attack (in which case, grow up and develop your personality)

She's new to me and so funny!

I read the low score reviews and think they are written by men who are exactly like the men Katherine described in her special! Get over it!! If you don't think she's funny, then think what we think of you! We women all know them and that's why Katherine Ryan is so funny! She has done the best explanation of the Kardashian Group I have heard and did it in a way that explained a lot to me about them. (I am NOT a fan.) The bit about redecorating her new London flat had me on the floor laughing. We all know that guy too!! THANK YOU, Katherine, for being a great single mom (like my immigrant single mother was) who can see the humor in the absurdities in this world. Keep 'em comin'.

I know her from television where she is together with Jimmy Carr. I always liked her there, but almost everybody. Just the right humour. I suddenly saw there is a performance of her on Netflix, so I turned it on.

Ok she hates men... She is angry... She hates everything I think. And this can be funny, but she tells it like she is serious. So I just watched while I was playing a game. It is nice to hear someone being angry and synical. So that is why I give a 6. It is not really funny, but it was also not really bad for me.

Too much on the defensive.

I love her first standup on Netflix (In Trouble) because she's so varied, smart, extremely quick, you can tell she's definitely a top comedian. Can handle heckling flawlessly and turns a heckler into her own material. That's a comic and that's true here too, but in this special she's waaay too defensive about the being single and raising a child alone lifestyle. At the time of me writing this, she's married and has two more kids. In the scheme of things, men are still important to her, which makes you wonder why two thirds of the show are spent saying how men exude toxic masculinity, are a rarity in her home, and a commodity that she doesn't require or look for. It was simply untrue. She's an excellent feminist but so much of the show was spent validating choices and bashing on men instead of covering more topics that it just alienates half of the audience. I'm the product of a single mother, so don't talk to me about the lack of appreciating single moms; I'm a successful person because of one. Men are people. Women are people. People suck and people will make your lifetime worth living. I hope more female comics get this.

Men bashing but funny. If we can laugh at Bill Burr then we need to learn to appreicate her too

I don't understand the hate that she is getting. This was genuinely very funny. I guess men are not as accepting of men bashing as women of stand ups like bill bur. Or maybe stand up just has fewer female audience.

I love Katherine Ryan. I think she's pretty damn funny and I love her delivery. I was so excited when I saw she had a new special out but when I watched it I noticed that most of it was her material from various Apollo sets she's done since her previous special. I understand she was telling the jokes to a completely different country but if you're a fan, you've probably seen these jokes already. The jokes that were new weren't her best, either. I would say that about 75% of this special is her doing material that I've seen her perform elsewhere on British television in the last year or two. I was really excited for some new jokes but unfortunately I'd already heard most of them so this special was very disappointing.

Amazing

I think I'm truly amazed. Before I realized it, Kathrine Ryan's material slithered in without any to-do or ... (pause) musical accompaniment. I was completely caught off guard. This is more than just standup. It would make a good movie. I hope we see more of Katheryn Ryan's talents. And I wouldn't be surprised if her next gig is a collaboration.

Lackluster with pretty much all old jokes

I like Katherine, her humours is right up my alley.

But this just falls short in soo many ways. Firstly the jokes are mostly rehashed jokes, and not even updating, just word for word the same. Secondly, we get it you've been single for years. But come on Katherine, talk about something else.

I appreciate that 20 years ago male comics used to slag off woman non stop, but we've come along way since then, and you're better than that. Stop with the lazy jokes about stereotypical men, which basically describes 1950s men and not modern men.

Hopefully at her next stand she'll have new material, which doesn't go on about how bad men are and why being single is ok. Choose a new topic, you're a talented enough comidienne to do so.

We need more women in their late 30's-70's talking about their experiences and sharing feminist humor with the masses. So grateful to finally hear a mature sassy woman saying something both relevant and funny for middle aged women. Much much more of this please!!!! Thank you, Katherine Ryan! You would be like Anna Kendrick to me! A big huge YES for the single adult women who are very happy to remain that way!!!!

Really. Just read through. It's like a graveyard of bitterness, which is kind of the entire point to several of the bits. The irony is not lost. Maybe if the entire special were on her knees or had snacks you'd feel less intimidated?

Anyway, I've been a fan of Katherine for a while and the set was on point and obviously original and unique or you wouldn't see so many people crying about it. How dare a woman speak up and declare she didn't need a man! Blasphemy. Witchcraft. Vulgarity.

Katherine stands up for herself, mocks society's attitude toward women and makes valid points all the way though. We don't all have to have the same tastes in comedy but if you're feeling attacked enough to write bitter reviews with ridiculous critiques or personal insults, that's called defensiveness and that's often from a feeling of guilt so.....good job proving her points.

Bitter and hateful

I wrote a whole review which disappeared. It was eloquent and fair. It took 30 minutes to write but now I just want to say, this is a hateful and sad person. If you remove the obligatory laughter of the audience and imagine yourself sitting at a bar and listening to this person ramble on, every hypothetical person at the table will feel sad and want to go home. Theres definitely double standards and unfair advantages and problems that exist in all areas of life, but this is an unhealthy approach in attempting to remedy or address the problem.

I didn't get all the way through it as it didn't make me laugh once. And the whole talking to a man in the audience like a toddler was just cringe worthy. Netflix give specials to anybody that can hold a mic these days. Definitely skip this. Garbage.

Seriously all these bad reviews, I can't. "Man-hating"...like she says grow a "something I can't say" because we are the most censored, ridiculously insecure, and prudish country in the world. There are so many other things that we should be concerned about. A great comedian should make you squirm a bit. If it's to a point that you can't laugh and you're truly offended/"scarred" (especially if you're someone who's never even truly experienced what it's like to be ostracized or targeted/bullied), the only problem lies within yourself and your own "misguided" narcissism (which is an oxymoron in itself). As Katherine would say (and I reiterate as someone who did struggle in life and worked hard become a bigger, better person): just don't be a garbage person. If you can't see passed your own ridiculous world and self that makes you think she's a man hater or she's too obtuse for you...open your eyes to the world around you. The point is if you can't...your most likely part or all of the problem in the first place. Jus sayin'..

Truth Hurts

I thought it was brilliant and hilarious. For those in the comments saying *bitter*... This woman is fine as hell. She isn't bitter. Just fed up. I think we are all looking for someone to see us as human. And that's what she is getting at. Sure, it gets a little uncomfortable (just like all good comedy). But if you are secure in yourself, you'll find the funny.

It pains me to say it, but this is one of the worst comedy shows I have ever seen. Which is unbelievable as Katherine Ryan is normally hilarious.

Perhaps it is because this is for an American audience or Katherine was having a bad day but both me and my partner struggled to even crack a smile during this.

Katherine starts the show declaring she has spent the last few months making Britain angry - which is odd as I assumed she was universally loved in the UK; hardly a panel show slips her by and she is always a joy to watch.

In Glitter Room she exchanges her normal wit and dark humor for acidic vitriol. The majority of the routine is calling people pricks, interspersed with comments on how awful men can be. You can get a more entertaining and coherent version of this show by starting a fight outside any Essex pub or nightclub at closing time.

Now even if you want to let off some steam partaking in a bit of man-bashing or generic name-calling , I would still argue you can find wittier and more gratifying material on any online forum.

I hope this is a show for Yanks that Brits just don't get and this isn't a new direction for Katherine as I truly am a big fan - just not of this.

She's on fire. Clever, funny, excellent story teller. She's an entertainer. I very much enjoyed this. If you don't know Katherine Ryan, you're missing out.

Feeling sorry for her

I really enjoyed Katherine's previous outing on Netflix so when I saw this one come up I was ready for a good laugh. Unfortunately this one really wasn't good from the very outset it came accross as less about being a comedy and more about her own resentment and bitterness towards men that even comes through in the animated intro and trying to seek some sort of solidarity from the audience which was not exactly thunderous. I think she's forgetting a few things 50% of the population are men and the women who come to her performances will in many case want to go with thier partner (often a man) who are deffinitly not going to want to sit through this. Women are going to have sons, brothers, fathers and grandfathers so bitter jokes will only remain funny with those that identify as feminist which apparently is only 11% or so of the population thats an impressive way to reduce your audience and then to essentially advertise you dont like men on Netflixs for wide distribution. I would even have forgiven this if the jokes had been funny but unfortunatly they are not.

Wandering through Netflix I came upon Katherine Ryan. Just to be on the record, I'm not a big fan of women comediennes, though I thought Joan Rivers was the very best and I enjoy Natasha Leggero. My tastes go from Marx Bros., Bob Hope. Don Rickles, Richard Pryor, Chris Rock, and of course, Jim Carrey. There's a B team too (e.g., Jim Gaffigan) but you get the point.

Then came Ryan. What a hoot. She is not merely funny, she has a different take on contemporary society. Funny, thoughtful, timely, and provocative. And she can sing. What a treat .

I can't comment on her other venues and roles, but she does a wonderful stand-up routine. Well worth watching.

Relationship jokes and gender stereotypes

I am a fan of Katherine Ryan mainly seeing her as a guest on panel shows and Co host of Your face or mine this is the first time I have seen her live and while I did laugh and enjoy the show I just found her retuines a little repetitive and focused way too heavily on dating and men in general and honestly felt a little predictable and preachy at times not unfunny just the kind of gender stereotypical jokes that comedy should be moving away from not making a full one hour show out of them again not unfunny just tired and clichéd

Man Hating

Ms. Ryan comes across as man-hating, but without any humor that might blunt the hate and make it palatable in a comic manner. I did not watch very much of the show, as I found it vindictive and mean-spirited, not humorous. If it became golden in its later portions, oh well. If you are a woman you may enjoy this. If you are a bitter and vindictive women you will almost certainly enjoy this. If you are a man, not so much.

Angry, Bitter, and Predictable

Man-hating waste of an hour. I didn't believe her set ups for any of her "jokes" as they seemed contrived and made up simply to make a point. Unfortunately the point was always the same. Men bad. Women who like and/or live with men bad. Conservative men more bad. It was 60 minutes if getting figuratively bashed over the head. I have no idea why anyone thinks she's funny because she didn't cause me to even crack a smile and I'm a stand-up junkie. My grown daughter who is quite liberal watched the special with me and when it was over turned to me and said "That is one angry woman. She's about as funny as a box of rocks." I would have said "She's about as funny as a kick in the groin" but you get the point. If you're tempted to watch this I recommend you watch something else, read a good book, or hit yourself in the head with a hammer. You'll have more fun.

Flat. Unfunny. Irrelevant.

Watched half the show. Had to switch off. Katherine just wasn't funny. I didn't laugh once, and I love comedy. It was flat and repetitive. The act just didn't seem to bring in the audience. It was way too vulgar at times for no reason whatsoever. Perhaps she's trying to be the new Rita Rudnar. I don't know, but I do think Katherine needs learn how to grab the audience the way Rita can. Lose the vulgar language for starters. It doesn't work here. Be sophisticated. Be classy. Don't talk down to men ... talk to them. It may improve.

She's Just Not Funny
