Titans was so much better than I thought it would be! After reading the reviews I wasn't really sure what to expect, there are more positive than negative but it's still pretty mixed so I still wasn't sure. I thought I'd finally give it chance and now that I just finished Season 3 I'd have to say I'm glad that I did because it was really good! It's obviously much more aimed at adults so some might be turned off by that but I like it more because of it. It's too bad that with this HBO merger that Titans got canceled because I thought each season got a little better and there plenty of story still to tell.

Titans is a gritty show that's based off the comic book "Teen Titans" which follows a group of young heroes as they try to make the world a better place to live in. I've really come to enjoy this show a lot. There are some parts that slow the show down a little but the good definitely outweighs the bad. It's obviously a show that's much more aimed at adults so some might be turned off by that but I like it more because of it. It continues to have surprise after surprise that will keep you entertained and wanting more. They give each character plenty of room to grow and expand each of their storylines. You really become invested in each character because of the storytelling here. It's show that keeps you on your toes as it is not afraid to kill off main characters.

Original review of season 1 (9 stars):
I notice some IMDB user reviews are horrified by the darkness of the series. This is exactly what I like about it, so if you want a series about heroic vigilantism as a source of empowerment, this is probably not the show for you.
The main protagonist is Dick Grayson, who has left Batman behind but whose long career as Robin has left him with a taste for heroic violence. Dick's fight scenes are horrifically violent; he's not just trying to stop the bad guys, but to severely punish them.
Soon he joins with a young girl with terrifying powers, an amnesiac who can generate fire, and a shape shifter, all of them working to protect the girl from mysterious forces out to get her.
But that's not the end of the superheroes. Almost every episode introduces some other superhero in Grayson's life. It's interesting to see superheroes as a sort of fractious community, even if, yes, it's kind of the premise of comic book parody The Tick.
Every episode is been riveting. Most of the time I really like the first one or two episodes of a superhero series then start losing interest (Flash, Arrow, Gifted) so I held off writing a review for a while. But this series seems, like Legion and Impulse, to stay fresh and intriguing, with an engaging story and compelling characters. It has fully-formed characters and many surprises.
And yeah, it's dark. And I love it.
Season 2 (7 stars): What happened?! The series got off to a bad start because the season 1 ender was pushed forward for sake of a cliffhanger and then rushed through. This introduced a messy season with random characters showing up and a story arc (of sorts) that swerved all over the road. The season seemed to right itself around the middle with the excellent introduction of Conner, but then crashed and burned with a season-ender that was senseless and poorly conceived on multiple levels.
Season 3 (2 stars):
I was really hoping they would right the ship in season 3, but instead they bashed holes in the hull until it sank. It's an unpleasant, tedious season, but shockingly received the best reviews of the series from both fans and critics!
There are several plot threads, but the main one involves Red Hood, and this thread is awful. Red Hood and his mentor are bland psychopaths, and the plot is fueled mainly by stupidity. When the good guys lose it's because they did something phenomenally stupid, and when they win it's because the villains suddenly do something phenomenally stupid.
The most notable part of the Red Hood thread is episode two, which is well done and genuinely powerful, but which I found so grueling that I didn't watch another episode for two months.
But for the most part, it's just boring.
The other threads, focused on Starfire and Raven (one of two major characters gone for most of the season), are much better. The Raven thread is responsible for the one truly brilliant episode, episode 9 (Souls), and the Starfire thread is entertaining and engrossing. But together these make up maybe 20% of the season.
Easily the worst season so far, regardless of what anyone else says. I'm not optimistic that after the positive response we'll get anything better next year.

To be honest, the trailer sucked and all of the hype had me super worried. I tried to go into the show with an open mind expecting something crappy. I was pleasantly surprised. Interesting story, characters, deep DC tie-ins, and overall very enjoyable. Before you watch it, definitely take note of the title "Titans" without the usual "Teen." This is not Teen Titans and plenty of liberties are taken, but if you are a fan of the superhero genre and DC/Batman content specifically, you will not be disappointed.
Season 1 showed promise. Season 2 destoyed that promise.

Season 2 is bad. Just tons of internal conflicts, and several characters acting like psychopaths, idiots or some combination of that. In almost all of the season nothing happens at all. Some quite horrible choices made in this season.
What a waste!!
Live action is overrated. Instead, go watch Young Justice. The plot is infinitely better than in Titans.

The main weakness this show has is the writing. Though overall it's acceptable, there is a major lull in a few episodes of the first season where they are trying to introduce characters with upcoming series of their own. I think this is the first time I've seen this done in a shows first season, and it doesn't work.
The actors all seem to have good chemistry and it shows, though hard core fans will be disappointed as pretty much all the characters have been drastically altered from the source material.
As for Starfire, I don't care what color the skin the actor portraying her has, as long as she can act. The answer is that Anna Diop can act, however she is stymied by the script she is given.
I wasn't expecting an Emmy caliber show, as long as the writers don't eventually sink the show, the actors seem to be doing a good enough job with a so-so script.

Season 3 is hard to watch. I don't understand the need to get rid of some of the main characters and to stay within Gotham. If we wanted another Batman/Batwoman story we we would watch those shows. This was interesting because of the group dynamics and various skills. An individual focus each episode on a specific character makes for a very slow series. I enjoy the new character (Starlight's sister) but again you get a glimpse and then we are back to a dark Batman/Gotham focused storyline. Unfortunately no longer interested in watching.
Wow! It's Titans, not TEEN Titans.

It wasn't as edgy as I thought it would be. Actings wasn't as weird as I thought it would be. The choreography wasn't as fake as I thought it would be. CGI didn't look as bad as I thought it would be. Production didn't look as cheap as I thought it would be. Editing wasn't as sloppy as I thought it would be. Dialogues weren't as cheesy as I thought it would be. Interactions are promising. Narrating is captivating. The build-up is looking good. Developments are on point. The episodes actually make sense. The show isn't overly edgy. It has a gritty and realistic take on and it works. I really didn't expect this. I hope they won't spoil this in the future, and raise their bar, it has really good potential. Just don't be fooled by the trailers like i was.
So, just finished the last episode of the first season. And they delivered. There were some awkward moments throughout the season, some scenes definitely could've executed differently, some introductions could've served better, the writing and directing was meh, but as a whole, it was a decent season. This universe is definitely worth your time.

Season 1 of the Titans was a breath of fresh air. It was so much different than other dc shows and movies. The season ended in a nice spot and the overall character development was great. Unfortunately they never got to use that momentum. Since then, it's been a steady decline. Specially, the writing and direction of season 3 has been absolutely abysmal.

Season 1 was very good and I gave it a decent review, but I have no idea what happened with the writers between then and now. So far, 3 episodes in, Season 2 is terrible - unbelievable situations, stupid character decisions meant only to propel the plot such as it is, lazy writing, the acting is unconvincing, and it's all so predictable, stupid, and boring boring boring. I find myself doing lots of other things while it's playing, not missing anything interesting, and desperately awaiting a new season of Doom Patrol, a far and away better show than this relentlessly blue tinged humorless dreck.

I've written a review for each season of "Titans" and logged them against the final episodes, but I thought I'd sum up some of my thoughts about it here too. I approached "Titans" with a bit of trepidation, I was concerned that television superhero fatigue might settle in. However, by the end of the run I was pleasantly surprised by a series I thoroughly enjoyed.
Dick Grayson ( Brenton Thwaites ) has left Robin (and Batman) behind and is working as a Detective, when he meets Rachel (Teagan Croft) a young, recently orphaned girl, whose dark powers may stem from her mysterious past. When the pair are forced to go on the run, they meet Kori (Anna Diop) a woman whose memory has been lost and can generate fire from her hands and Gar (Ryan Potter) who has his own secret powers as the result of a mad scientist. Together they form a team to defend Rachel from forces looking to harness her power.
"Titans" wisely differentiates itself by being tonally quite different to the rest of the shows, particularly the other Berlanti-verse ones. It's a lot more violent, and more willing to show the effects of that violence, there's more swearing and sex scenes too. It also tells one (... well ... half...) a contained story across the 11 episode run, rather than the networks 22 episode "Villain of the week" style season. Occasion episodes take the focus away from the team that pad out the universe a bit, explaining who some of the other characters are and there is a backdoor pilot for "Doom Patrol" that forms one episode. It's a show that rewards a wider knowledge of the Batman/DC universe but I think it would work well enough on its own standing, provided you're prepared to accept a superhero/meta-human concept in general.
I would say, that though I enjoyed it quite a bit and the musical choices are amazing, some of the storyline gets to be a little familiar across the seasons. You'd have thought Dick might have learned a lesson about not lying to the team, but apparently not. Some of the character decisions across the run were a little . . . Confused and, as ever, once you introduce the concept of the Lazarus pit it's a crutch to get you out of any storyline hole you might want.
Whilst I'm a little sad to see it end here, it goes before outstaying it's welcome.

I generally like comics and superheroes, but that doesn't always mean I like each and every iteration. I was a bit worried after seeing the trailer, mostly because of two things: special effects, and the tone (between the dark and gritty, and what they showed to be the colorful Starfire).
I have to say, I was kind of impressed. Sure, they're maybe trying a bit too hard to be dark and gritty, but (especially later) they set it off with some humor (not over the top) and cool combination of characters. I really like Dick Grayson, and Brenton's portrayal, as kick-ass yet conflicted former sidekick of Batman. I liked the choreography of his fight scenes. Gar is a nice addition to add lightheartedness, without being full-out comic relief. Raven is maybe a tadbit wooden, but adds some charm to the group, and I am most impressed by Starfire, as colorful, mysterious, bad-ass superhero.
I'm halfway through season one, but have high hopes for the remainder of the season and any further seasons that might hopefully come.

I can't believe in this show. I remember people mocking every news prior to the release of the tv show, as a good amount of people didn't believe in this show.
Oh boy, as someone who never watched the cartoons neither read the comics, I didn't know what to expect, so I was divided between the trailers and info about the show and the bad word of mouth people were spreading.
But how wrong they were...
The aesthetic is phenomenal, the plot really detailed and thought out, the pace is actually really well written, even when we go from an action scene to a slower scene.
Two episodes in and I'm already invested in the characters, specially Starfire, who received the most criticism, but the mysterious surrounding this character is addictive, I just want to see more and know more. Dick Grayson is a wonder, such a good characters that I love. Rachel is just amazingly well written, so far she doesn't fall in the typical and cliche haunted characters, her actions are really plausible and fit the characteristics of the character.
Right now, I just can't stop watching. DC has a winner.

I do not follow DC so had no expectations either way. This show started with great promise but it petered out. Here is the kicker: The story has great potential, the characters are interesting and likeable, the acting is actually pretty good and yet, the sum of all these parts falls short. The story drags, opportunities for great character development are missed over and over, and the whole show feels like watching a low budget, B movie. This could have been a great show but I doubt I'll watch it past the first season, if it survives. Oh, and the CGI tiger is THE worst CGI animal I have ever seen.

The series has a quite dark atmosphere. It could have been better if the dark atmosphere was a little bit less. The story can be said to be chaos with one word. You can easily guess how the story will progress. It's easy to combine the pieces and there's not enough factor to keep the audience alive for 50 minutes. Only things that Robin lived with Batman are attractive. The balance between the occasional jokes and the scenes where the heads are blown out is well established.
Dick Grayson got tired of Batman and his teachings and started to work as a detective in Detroit. We see Dick has lost control while trying to get out shadow of Batman. This incredibly darkened character almost beats people to death and cannot stop himself. The most successful character of the series, and of course Brenton Thwaites, who plays the character in this success, has a great role. The character on which the series is based is Raven, as anyone who knows a little about the stories of Titans can guess. It's a tasteful to watch Raven. Starfire is an overdone character. I think they wanted the character to look cool, but it was too much for me. Beast Boy's well-known joke and funny are well used. It is successful in scenes where the character turned into tiger. And the CGI wasn't bad either. It is also possible to see the characters from the upcoming Doom Patrol series. And I liked Jason Todd, the new Robin. All the characters in the series are in a pretty good condition, despite some of the cons.
DC has done a good job and has been a promising series for future DC productions. Watch this series if you're someone who likes superhero stories. 7/10

I was skeptical at first because I grew up watching the Teen Titans cartoon and expected it to follow that similar story line. I have to say I love this show though and can't wait for season 3. It has enough nostalgia factor as well as new stuff to keep me on my toes. They do a good job of getting you emotionally invested in characters and relationships. But reading some of the other reviews some people just can't sit back, watch a show, and enjoy it.

We live in a time were superheros getting together in an epic team up is whats in style and demand. The MCU did it, DCEU have done it and even the CW network have their annual episode crossover. Eventually it all feels very repetitive.
However, Titans gives off a very different taste in a dark reboot of these characters, who with every passing episode gain more and more character depth.
My personal favourite is obviously Dick Grayson with the perfect casting option and great writing for the character in general. Hawk and Dove are also very interesting characters. Season 2 made characters who seemed shallow in season 1 more interesting (Donna Troy in particular).
Its one of those shows that just keeps getting better and better the more you watch

Seeing some characters like Nightwing brought to life for the first time is fun. There is some potential. Some good moments. There is a lot of cheesy drama, long dull plot lines, characters that are inconsistent with their comic book versions, and terrible dialogue. Some of the writing seems like it came from elementary school students. Character development is juvenile at best. The costumes are cool, but this is another example of great potential characters completely ruined by visionless, passionless direction and lackluster writing that drags out any good arcs so long they become dull and disappointing.
Dark and worth it. Definitely worth a watch.

It is an amazing show. It might not match with the comics a lot but if you watch it as an original, it is totally worth it. A re imagination of the sidekicks of the best dc heroes and how they end up together. Their battles, their mistakes, their mysteries and their victories are shown with excellence. It is a little dark and adult series and the actors are also pretty good. It should have had more episodes in each season which would have made it a lot more enjoyable and catchy but it still is absolutely worth it. I especially enjoyed the character of Dick Grayson and his journey from Robin to Nightwing.

Now that James Gunn has taken over the DC cinematic universe, I hope that we get a Dick Grayson full feature film with a larger budget than Titans.
With that being said, here is my rating breakdown:
Season 1 = 8.0 Season 2 = 8.0 Season 3 = 7.0 Season 4 = 6.0
In season 4, they really missed the mark with casting Franka Potente as Mother Mayhem, who is by far the weakest link. The lair set design for Mother Mayhem was awful. I've seen better set design at Universal Studios in Orlando. Some episodes of season 4 are a great cinematic experience, while other episodes are very amateur CW Network-ish.

Just loving it."The asylum" is just so dark.
This show is by a country mile the best DC show so far.
Very adult, very well cast and so dark. This is the real take on what super hero shows need to be. There is no comic here.
If DC carries on like this the future could be bright.
But so far their cinematic showing has been mediocre at best.
