Worse than a Lifetime movie
awesometruth7813 September 2020
As a found footage horror fan, I have to be honest, this film was ridiculously bad. If I had saw this in the theatre I would be angry.

This would be a better title. Trying to figure out who would put money into this piece of junk. This movie is a definite no.

Warning: Spoilers
Why is it that in every damned one of these movies, when the characters are confronted with potentially dire circumstances, their inevitable decisions involve getting drunk and getting laid?

We have one sister who requires medication in order to cope with some mental illness. She, along with her sister, heads into mysterious circumstances and situations, having allowed her prescriptions to lapse. She is potentially unstable without this medication. The other sister knows this. What does the other sister do? "Hey! Let's get s**t-faced!!!", because yeah, everyone knows that booze + mental illness + the paranormal = good times!

We have sisters Emily and Sara, who embark on a paranormal investigation. Sara was proposed to by Lucas, who had enlisted in the military. Sara turns Lucas down because she didn't feel that she could bear up under the pressure of being a military wife. Lucas is, of course, despondent, and enters basic training and tour of duty.

The movie cuts to some time later, after Lucas has been enlisted and deployed. Sara has learned that he is MIA, and presumed dead. Emily and Sara decide to employ a psychic medium to contact Lucas, or someone that may have served and died with him, to discern his fate. The first psychic shows up, and has some sort of conniption fit while in a trance, and the sisters decide that he was a fraud. Emily finds another psychic and contacts him, mostly because she thinks that he's cute. This is Mike.

Mike also enters a trance, and in this trance, he channels someone named Dave, who was in the same unit as Lucas when Lucas went missing. Dave, through Mike, suggests that Lucas did not perish with the others, that Lucas wasn't where he was supposed to be.

This prompts Emily and Sara to go to a ranch house that belonged to Lucas's family. Sara has access to this property, and can get them into the house. This is when Sara let's Emily know that she did not refill her necessary prescriptions. Shortly after this revelation, which supposedly upset Emily greatly, Emily suggests that they get drunk, because you know, that's how all.paranormal investigations begin... let's get the mentally imbalanced blottoed.

Mike shows up, and behaves erratically. What does Emily decide to do? Get drunk and lay him. That Emily is one crack paranormal investigator, isn't she?

Mike tells Emily and Sara that Lucas made some sort of unbreakable commitment to Satan, and Sara swears to help Lucas break this contract, if he's actually still alive. As the movie goes on, Sara becomes increasingly unstable, and attacks Mike. Emily helps Mike fend Sara off, and Sara flees into the woods. At this point, I should mention that there has been some sort of guttural, bestial bellowing in the woods at night.

Is this Lucas? Satan? A Sasquatch with irritable bowel syndrome? Who knows? The bellowing is never explained.

Emily goes out to the woods to find Sara, and appears to be killed by some mysterious force, then her body disappears. Sara goes back to the house to.find Mike, whose real name is Patrick. Sara reveals, as she searches the house for Mike, that she knows his real name. She finds Mike/Patrick, holding Emily's disembodied head.

Sara attacks Patrick with a baseball bat, but he disarms her. Patrick then reveals that he staged all of it in order to avenge Lucas, after Sara turned down his proposal. Patrick reveals to Sara that he and Lucas were taken hostage and tortured for six months by enemy forces, and that everyone else in their unit was killed. Patrick somehow escapes, makes it back to the United States, and enacts his plan for revenge against Sara. It's Sara's fault that they were captured and tortured, you see. Never mind that Lucas had already enlisted, and was joining the military anyway. It's Sara's fault. Yep. Unh hunh. Fer shure.

The surprise at the end is that Lucas is alive, and he kills Sara. Patrick asks Lucas how he feels after having killed Sara, and Lucas replies that snapping her neck was the best thing that he's ever felt. You see,, Lucas also feels that their capture and torture was Sara's fault, even though enlisting in the military was entirely his own decision, independent of anything that Sara had ever done or said.. His only regret is that he killed her too quickly. Lucas and Patrick then decide that there are more people that need killing.

Lucas goes back into the house to take one last look at Sara's body, then he makes a phone call to someone, to get the ball rolling on the people that Patrick wants to kill.

The End.

Dumb. Ass. Movie. Do yourself a favor and pass on this one.

Every 10 star review here is a lie
Bri_Horror_Over_Everything15 September 2020
Literally I don't know who paid these people to rate 10-stars for this awful movie.... but I assure you this movie was terribly written and painfully bad. The few "twists" were predictable, but the movie is overall boring and uneventful. And the acting is nothing to brag about (I couldn't stop laughing at the "medium" scenes). I actually love found footage movies, but go ahead and pass on this one! I'm just looking out because with all these clearly biased reviews, someone just had to say it...

THE WORST FOUND FOOTAGE MOVIE
spaceland_force5 September 2020
I'm not one to leave reviews but I feel it's my duty to warn others. That is how bad this movie is. The acting sucked soo bad and it was so not scary. This is a Blair Witch Project wannabe movie, the whole thing should have been left on the cutting room floor.

The 10/10 reviews appear to be left by cast members. I actually bought this movie with my hard earned money, and I regret it!

Don't waste your time. The writing and acting is horrible. Felt as though I was watching a high school drama class project. Worst movie I have seen in a while.

Why??

Warning: Spoilers
I should have known to stop watching when the mediums both had ridiculous seizure like episodes that were the worst attempts at contacting the other side. I just want to know why so many people are just sitting around and thinking let's make a stupid movie that doesn't make any sense. The acting the was ok. The ending was so dumb. I cannot wrap my head around it. Definitely was not ever scary at any point.

Question for you ladies
takato052423 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What female would go with a man they got off the internet to a secluded cabin in the woods? And add on you just met him 24 hours ago and in that time some random chick saw him and called him a name that you haven't been calling him? Obviously these two idiot girls would. And all the events that happened after that they deserved.

This movie was awful. Nothing eventful happens until literally an hour in. The two girls are dumb as rocks. The guy is so awful at acting he makes middle school theater look award winning. And the plot holes are so in your face you could swim in them.

The ending twist you see coming the moment the random girl calls him his real name. What you don't see is how they try to put a military spin on it. As a vet I'm offended at such poor taste. Don't waste your time with this unless you're doing something else like washing dishes, vacuuming, or trying to sleep.

10 Stars? You're delusional.
jmat406 March 2021
The family and friends of the filmmaker have decided that this is the greatest movie ever made. So many 10's for something worth maybe 3 or 4 stars if you feel generous. The reviews on IMDb are quite worthless quite often. I really like Found Footage films but c'mon none of them are 10 star worthy. Lochlyn Munroe must've owed someone a favor to appear in this drivel.

This movie is pretty awful. Do yourself a favor and don't even bother watching this film. The other 10/10 reviews many left on the same day are very suspicious.

This is absolutely awful. Worst acting if that's what you want to call it. Can't believe money was spent on this amateur hour home made video tape. 5 thumbs down.

Not terrible but far from good
The title sums it up.

I'm an avid horror fan and watch almost everything, and although I've definitely watched worse movies than this, it still ranks pretty low.

The acting isn't the best, especially not from the youngest girl. The plot is very generic and although it has kind of a "twist", it isn't special in any way. There are also a few holes. Definitely not scary.

I can't say what other people should think of this, but the fact that all these 10/10 reviews are written within the same week, many the same day, seems a little fishy to me. It really wasn't that good!

He is Here
nogodnomasters22 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Sara (Angelica Briones ) and Emily (Lauren Albo ) are doing a documentary on mediums. Sara did not marry Lucas (Jack Buckley ) who is now presumed dead. They travel up to his remote home with a medium to find out.

I liked the first part of the film. Lochlyn Munro had only a small role. The plot turned stupid and the outdoor found footage was typically bad. On the plus side, I fell in love with the energy and natural acting ability of Lauren Albo. I would like to see more of her in horror films.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

First half was great but went to hell after that.
dlmyst-298131 August 2021
Movie is a documentary regarding mediums and the ex-girlfriend trying to find out what happened to her ex. I wish they would of used Lochlyn Munro more since he's such great actor. The girls were okay but got annoying half way in the movie. They could of had a gem if they went a different direction after they met the second "medium". Sadly afterwards, it took all I had to finish the movie. I don't recommend this movie I suffered so that you don't.

Gotta appreciate the actors
regburnman9 July 2020
Dead Voices has a kick-butt cast. Young, Albo, and Briones all deliver wonderful performances. Young and Briones perform dynamic theatrical displays in tight camera shots. They had me hooked from the get-go. Albo showed the widest range of emotion displayed. Ranging from flirtatious, to gregarious, seductive, scared, upset, angry, and concerned. She nailed them all.

Nothing new, but not half bad
Woodyanders11 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Sisters Emily and Sara are shooting a documentary about mediums for a college final. The pair discover a deadly dark secret about Sara's supposedly dead fiance Lucas while working on said documentary.

While director William Butler relates the okay story at a reasonable pace and takes time to develop the characters, he crucially fails to generate much in the way of any essential tension or creepy atmosphere. Fortunately, the genuinely jolting surprise grim ending goes a long way in compensating for this. Lauren Albo and Angelica Briones do solid work as the sisters while Lochlyn Munro only appears for a few minutes in a minor role as a medium. A perfectly passable diversion.

You´re the devil!
rbn_lrk-128 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It´s 2020 and cinema went in the drain with the covid panic. If you want to enjoy some fresh handheld horror this year watch Dead Voices an hour of guess who is the antagonist fun in a remote forest. Not to be in top 3 best of 2020 movie reviewers end of year list but good for a boring Weekend streaming in the long row of Amzon thriiling movie titles.

If you enjoy found footage it's not that bad
WubbaLubbaDubDub25 January 2021
I've been on a found footage kick lately. They're often low budget and can have some rough acting so maybe that's why these things don't bother me as much as it seems to bother many other reviewers here.

For a movie I found on Youtube I had a good time and don't regret watching it. I wouldn't pay to see it in theater of course but there's plenty of horror I've watched I wouldn't but that doesn't mean the film was awful. There's not a lot of gore or that type of horror but some satan worshipping with a mystery of what's going on with Lucas definitely justifies putting it in the genre. Other reviewers kept mentioning the twist at the end and that pushed me to go ahead and try it despite the many 1 and 2 stars.

If you like found footage you won't hate this as much as some are implying. It's no blockbuster but who cares. "The characters are unlikeable" but that's pretty normal for this genre so what? I was entertained the whole ride it doesn't have to be the scariest film to justify a 4 or 5 star rating. Horror like comedy is very subjective but I think some can be overy critical.

Kinda Lame
NickGagnon9425 March 2022
Very dull found footage film has really nothing going for it. I like how they put Lochlyn Munro front and center. He's barely in the movie. Best to see another horror film.
