WRONG
BandSAboutMovies27 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
More power to David DeCoteau for making movies still after decades of directing. Most of his latest output has been a series of The Wrong... movies starring Vivica Fox like The Wrong Valentine, The Wrong Mr. Right, The Wrong Real Estate Agant, The Wrong Stepfather, The Wrong Teacher and so many more.

In this installment, Vivica is Coach Flynn, but the main story is all about one of her cheerleaders named Becky (Cristine Prosperi, who is also in Bring It On: Worldwide and The Wrong Neighbor and The Wrong Prince Charming), who falls for a boy named Rob who ends up trying to possess every moment of her existence.

How did I know that this, of all the movies on the set came from DeCoteau? Because for all the cheerleading girls, the majority of the action is focused on male abs. Hey - the dude knows what he likes and keeps making movies. More power to him.

Too many things ruined this movie, like plot holes and the ever-present Vivica Fox
deedrala7 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Even though this is just one of the many "Wrong" Lifetime flicks, it could've been a halfway decent movie but for all of its drawbacks, namely:

1) The backstory with Amanda was a mess. So Psycho Rob was kicked out of/left her school for hitting her, and then he stalked her and came to her house and "attacked" her as she told Jen and Becky later on? But then why wasn't he found and arrested and jailed for the attack, especially since her father was a successful attorney? And then he overheard her telling them about him and stalked her and killed her? Ridiculous.

2) It was too implausible that Psycho Rob would be lurking and hiding in so many places in time to overhear all the key conversations about him.

3) The best friend - Jen - and her boyfriend just stood there staring after Psycho Rob hit Becky at the party, even after Becky ran off and Rob followed her. Um, shouldn't they have followed them to protect Becky in case Rob got violent with her again??

4) How did the call go to the psycho boyfriend's cell phone when Becky's mother dialed the school's phone number to return their call, when she got to work the morning after Rob had broken into her house? She didn't even look it up first, unless the secretary had written the phone number down that he told her to have the mother call, but then you would think the mother would realize it wasn't the school's phone number.

5) The mother identified herself as 'Eliza' when she thought she was talking to the vice-principal at the school, after the envelope addressed to 'Liza Snyder' was clearly shown just a few minutes prior to that scene when Rob held it up at their house after he broke in, so either it was a typo on the envelope - which looked like it contained her paycheck and so should have the exact correct name - or the actress forgot her character's name.

6) The detective told Psycho Rob that he would be "going away/off the streets for a long time" and told Becky that he would be "chasing her in his walker" when he was finally free again. But in the very next scene and the last scene of the movie, he was free, at the same age (but with a different hairdo), hooking up with a new girl.

Those were the salient points of this particular movie, along with my usual ongoing complaints about Lifetime movies in general:

7) Why does everyone in every LMN flick live in massively huge mansions that most of them couldn't even begin to afford? They look more like hotels or resorts than single-family homes and are too enormous for the one or two people who always live in them. Most LMN audiences can't identify with such overly obvious displays of wealth.

8) The narcissist Vivica Fox and the fact that she's so over-exposed in so many frequently-shown "wrong" movies, playing so many different characters with different occupations. Couldn't she maybe just once stay behind the scenes and let someone else be in front of the cameras?? What a useless, vain thing to be remembered for - saying her same sassy silly trademark line at the end of all these dime-a-dozen movies: "You picked the WRONG ___________!!"

(And this time, the "wrong" character she mentioned was not the villain as it is in all other "wrong" LMN flicks - it was the 'Lifetime Good Girl' main character.)

Speaking of Fox, at least her overdone plastic surgery wasn't as noticeable as the cheerleader's mother - Liza/Eliza. Her plasticized mannequin face wasn't even capable of any human expressions, and her upper lip protruded over her lower lip - so fake-looking and unattractive, which defeats the whole purpose of cosmetic surgery, lol. Some people go too far overboard with it.

And while we're on the subject of appearance, Psycho Rob looked too old to be a high school senior, unless he had to keep repeating his senior year over and over again for a decade. And the hi-def TV of today's advanced technology unfortunately showed both his and Becky's bad complexions.

Other than all that, it might've been a movie worthy of at least a 6 out of 10 score.

Grade D / 3 out of 10

(P.S. A few of the other reviewers here were incorrect about some things, such as the father taking his glasses on and off - that was another of the many LMN cheerleader movies, not this one. And the one who said this had "too much sex" - there was no sex at all in this movie, just some light making out.)

Nothing to cheer about
kingdavidrd16 April 2020
A little embarrassed that this is my first review but I just signed up for IMDB and just watched another social distancing snoozer. Storyline 4/10. Acting 4/10. Suspense 1/10. And the thing that most stands out... The lead/crazy male looks like he's 35 years old! Couldn't they have found anyone else?!?!

Why not use teenagers to play teenagers rather than grown men pretending to still be of high school age?
Ed-Shullivan17 November 2020
I can only assume a favor was owed to actor David Meza as I have no other explanation as to why the producers would otherwise have blatantly miscast a middle aged twenty something actor to play a 17-18 year old high schooler? I understand when seasoned veterans whose careers are waning try to hang on to their long lost and forgotten youth by refusing to play grandparents rather than some stud and/or vixen, but when a mature adult is inserted as a high school student I just shrug my shoulders and accept that this film is going to bomb. No surprise then when I rate the film a 3 out of 10 IMDB rating.

Double Dosage
lavatch5 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Becky Snider was raised by her mother Eliza after her alcoholic and abusive father died in an auto crash while driving with three times the legal level of alcohol in his system. Becky is an outstanding student, but Eliza is concerned about her daughter's participation on the cheerleading squad. Becky has also begun her first romantic relationship. Unfortunately, the young man, Rob Rouse, may think that he is Romeo. In fact, he is closer to a young version of the maniacal Macbeth.

Rob also grew up in a dysfunctional household, and after his alcoholic mother left, he has been raised by an embittered and uncaring father. Rob became an alcoholic himself. He was forced to transfer from Bishop parochial school after he battered his girlfriend, Amanda White. Now, Rob has his sights set on another cheerleader in the naive Becky Snider.

Becky has an especially devoted bestie name Jen, who is the first to recognize that Rob is a loose canon. Insanely possessive and with a hair-trigger temper, Rob can turn on a dime in his meltdowns. Becky finally begins to realize the depth of her predicament when Rob slaps her in the face at a dance.

A weakness of the film was apparent in the numerous scenes where Rob was lurking in the background and eavesdropping on the other characters. It stretched credibility that he would always appear on cue and not be noticed by the others. While the actor playing Rob did a good job in capturing the character's wild mood swings, it seemed far-fetched that he would murder poor Amanda White, given his previous encounter with her father, a high-powered attorney.

The strength of the film was in the bonding of the best friends, Becky and Jen, as well as the thoughtful cheerleading coach played by Vivica A. Fox. The best scene in the film was when the feisty cheerleader Becky and her coach gave a double dosage of pepper spray to the villain, in the process redefining the expression "red eye."

Through power of love of a caring mother, a considerate coach, and the undying friendship of her best friend, Becky Snider has a support group unmatched in the series of "The Wrong ______" films on Lifetime.

Very Disappointing
mbqwerty15 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I was really excited to watch the movie. But I was disappointed! There is little or no action. It was a boring movie. I was expecting the movie to have a really good action packed ending but it turns out that the ending is very bland, boring and well overall I don't recommend watching this movie. The girl is pretty and the bad guy, well Lifetime tried to hire a hot guy but David Meza is cute but not that hot. I was disappointed with him too. Meanwhile, the cheerleader coach's strict attitude is VERY unnecessary in this type of plot. Yes, she saved the girl and her mom in the end but her strictness was not needed for the movie. Heck! They shouldn't have had that character in the movie at all! (sorry Vivica A. Fox). All in all, I was very disappointed with the movie. I don't recommend watching it. Waste of time and very boring. BTW: The main character's mom gives me Kris Jenner vibes.

Cheerleader abuse!
phd_travel11 September 2019
There have been a couple of cheerleader movies recently on Lifetime. The cheerleader isn't the wrong one here. It's a guy who isn't right in the head as he becomes her over possessive jealous boyfriend . This movie has more depth than standard Lifetime fare - quite nicely paced and the actors are convincing enough. Cristine Prosperi is the sweet cheerleader. David Meza plays the hot tempered boy quite well. It's good that they went into some background for the abuse including alcohol and a nasty father. Quite sinister the convincing nature of his apologies. The abusive relationship mirrors a grown up drama. Actually quite suspenseful.

One of the better "Wrong" movies.
