Interesting fun show for Jurassic fans!
ChanithaWeerasinghe11 August 2022
Camp Cretaceous is an amazing, fun, thrilling animated series which follows an interesting side story to the Jurassic World film franchise set in the same universe. The story starts off lightly and moves on deeper into the bigger plot with intense twists occurring through each season. Season 5 actually gets close to getting related to Jurassic World Dominion which makes the story more and more interesting with dino action being super awesome as usual in Jurassic films.

The main child characters bonding with each other as family through a really hard time of survival is a really nice way to make kids aware of how worthy good friends can be. Also, the story is very heartful as it isn't focused on showing dinosaurs as deadly predators but as nice living beings who follow a similar behavior of humans, protecting their own kind and stuff like that. This makes the story in Dominion more believable on how dinosaurs and humans can coexist.

Overall, this show is one of the best animated series Netflix has provided.

Surprisingly enjoyable! Few drawbacks.
randomattster21 September 2020
As a 28 year old guy, I was highly skeptical of this when it was announced. I was pleasantly surprised in a big way! Solid animation (the dinosaurs look GREAT), enjoyable tie ins, and most shockingly of all, there was even some character development and legit emotional moments if you allow yourself to connect with the characters.

The only real drawback I felt was the way the show portrays kids like SUCH idiots, with everyone acting out and breaking the rules at every turn, except for the one scaredy-cat kid, who is so over the top it's mostly annoying. Most kids aren't actually like that, and shouldn't be written as such. The camp counsellors reactions to the rule breaking (essentially! "Go to your room!") were pretty unrealistic too.

Past that, it was overall incredibly enjoyable, and I sure hope they do more!

Unexpectedly great, with a lot of Heart - Not just for Kids
Kishan_Baijnath21 September 2020
I've been a Jurassic Park fan my entire life, but being 25 years old, I was only mildly curious to take a look at Camp Cretaceaous.

While the first 3 episodes are pretty enjoyable, it seemed to be most appropriate for its target audience of young children.

However, once we get to episode 4, things suddenly change to an impressive degree. The stakes feel a lot higher, the tension is phenomenally well handled (especially for a children's show). I really feel like the creators did their best to get the most out of Jurassic World and I had a blast watching this show.

While I have some mixed feelings about the human characters' animation style, it was a minor gripe with a wonderful show. The dinosaurs are impressive. The musical score feels very true to Jurassic. And the story is absolutely entertaining.

The whole 1st season takes place around the same time period as the first Jurassic World and while some major movie moments cross paths with the series, Camp Cretaceaous never loses sight of its own story for the sake of fan service. It keeps respectful to the larger story, but manages to be an entirely gripping and enjoyable journey on its own.

The thing that stood out most to me was the human element of the whole series. While I was hesitant with some of the main characters at first, they all really grew on me. By episode 5 I was so attached to them, it became a roller-coaster of emotions every time they stumble into danger. Every kid in the show contributes beautifully to the cast and fills the show with a unique and endearing spirit.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceaous is a wonderful show with a lot of heart. I loved the full arc of this season and all its characters. I sincerely hope we get to see more seasons in the future.

I'm so glad I decided to give this a watch. I highly recommend it. Not just for kids.

What a triumph!
biggsjay18 September 2020
Just watched this with my 3 year old son. We had a day on the sofa as we are self isolating and watched the entire series from start to finish!! Tense and fun all at the same time. Bought back memories of the original film whilst still feeling fresh. The dinosaurs are AMAZING and while there were some very scary moments it's a non stop thrill ride for 8 episodes. Excited for the next series already!

Can bet Jurass-i-can
ross-williams-8496921 September 2020
This series didn't get too much of my attention when advertised as I didn't wanna be let down!

WRONG.........

From the opening moments to the closing a 26 & 33 old couple binge watched all the episodes in order with only toilet breaks allowed.

Don't get me wrong a few plot, character & over story bumps but honestly the show is something I wished to have had when I was younger so just seeing something like this available now for the next generation.

Spielberg, trevarrow & Marshall, thank you

Wowzers... far better than expected
aratichy18 September 2020
I went in with low expectations since, you know, kiddy show. Was surprised far beyond expectations. *MILD SPOILERS* Wow this was good. The trailers do not do it justice. And those who thought there was gonna be no tension, no deaths, there will be 'surprises' to say the least. There are incredibly thrilling and blood pumping scenes with the Mosasaurus and Pteranodons, the characters are enjoyable, it expands on the lore, it has awesome subtle references, the music is amazing, and gives us a unique and tense Pteranodon theme, the arcs are well plotted, The animation on the dinosaurs is magnificent, the mood of the series is great. You can really tell Steven Spielberg had a say in the production of this thing. This is a kids show afterall though, there are some quite cringe worthy scenes, no new species, many dumb decisions, ... some unbelievable plot points, people giving a pep talk in the middle of a dino crisis (no pun intended), and then some stuff. Still really really loved it and the humour worked for me. 7.5/10; better than JP 3

Murphy's Law meets Jurassic Park at Summer Camp
jbflower968 August 2022
While I enjoy the first Jurassic Park and the Jurassic World movies, I wouldn't consider myself that deep of a fan. This show kept popping up in my recommendation list on Netflix, so I decided to just give it a shot out of boredom.

It took a bit to get past the first few episodes, but I did become very invested and found myself nearly bitting my nails in tension. The group of teens each have their own quirks and weakness, and while they can be annoying and make dumb decisions at times, I can't fault them given the setting and the fact they are... well teens. It reminded me a lot of "Race to the Edge" in portraying a solid, engaging group dynamic and it wasn't til I went online that I found out DreamWorks had also produced this show! Everyone gets a chance to shine and the show isn't afraid to mix up character pairs, allowing the audience to see new sides to everyone. There are the obvious friendships and dynamics, and then there's the ones ya didn't realize ya wanted to see until it happened.

It's great to see the teens working together to overcome obstacles and remain positive, even when Murphy's law meets the Jurassic Park incompetence that we all secretly enjoy as it gets the story going. Could totally see these events happening concurrent with the Jurassic World movies as the creators took a lot of care to blend all of the movie elements together without resorting to just rehashing them outright.

The dinosaurs are also really neat to see. They are a bit out of place animation wise compared to the human characters, but I did grow to love the choice as it allows the viewer to really appreciate the detail and creativity of the dinos. There's numerous times the creatures act like one would expect dinos to act. That includes predators acting like predators and the teens trying not to get eaten. The graphic blood and gore is absent from the show, which honestly suites me fine as it's pretty obvious what's happening. A lot of the weight is carried through the scene set ups, angles, cut offs, character tensions, etc. If you're into graphic blood and gore you'll be disappointed, but it's great for those like me who want to enjoy a show without being bombarded with all that imagery.

All in all, it's a good show for even non-fans to get into. Like able characters, fun setting, dinosaurs being dinosaurs, and a simple goal: survive and get off the dangerous island.

May scare some really young viewers, but if they like Jurassic Park/World as it is then they should be fine.

Not expected to be so great
awoland31 January 2021
My 4 year old twins loved it & so did my nieces & nephew ranging in ages (11, 11, 7 & 8).y kids started with season 1 & then were thrilled when season 2 came out.

The nieces & nephew learned about it as a suggestion from us when season 2 came out & shocked us by streaming all 2 seasons in a single weekend with the grandparents.

Everyone just loves it & we like watching it with them to. They add in a lot of the Jurassic Park / World magic & suspense without the gore & a nice plot for the kids. Highly recommend it for kids of all ages who love dinosaurs.

Skip, adds political garbage in the last season.
rchosen-193-553525 January 2021
While the series started out great, it ended the last season by introducing a social issue that wasn't needed at all. Even seen others complain about it to. Like it was throw in for no reason and added nothing.

That aside the show did have some great lore into the JP/JW movies that you may have not known other wise. A few cameos by movie characters. And one of the people from the newest Jurassic World stars in the last season.

Visually stunning
TheCarpooler14 November 2021
Just finished season 3. The visuals have been great from the beginning, but wow. Season 3 hits an entire new level.

The dinos, flora and fauna are amazing.

The kids again travel across the island several times, sometimes scared, sometimes not.

Looks great excluding Human Characters
varun_lambo-7301918 September 2020
The show looks great, SFX looks great, Dinosaurs look great .... Only disappointment are the human characters which feel like we're not given much time too. Humans look like plastic, completely not matching the whole Dinosaurs theme and environment.

Not just for kids
zcsosebee21 July 2022
This show is a gem. It's universally satisfying, the overall story is solid with each season adding and building, the vis and graphics are good, it's wholesome enough for kids yet not cringey to adults, all while doing justice to the franchise. Honestly this should have been plan for the movies, it would have been so much better than the direction the trilogy took after Jurassic World.

Out running dinosaurs
nikkipartee1 January 2022
How are these kids still alive? How can they out run every single dinosaur? If I just hadn't seen all the movies and watch every adult get eaten I'd be a little less skeptical. Still enjoyable though.

Great animation, except for the people
barilleboylv18 September 2020
Pretty great overall so far. My only issue is the people. Everything is animated really well, especially the dinosaurs, but the people seem like they should be in a 1989 animated movie. It was such a let down, because everything else was awesome. Their mouths are really frustrating, because they don't even form the shape of the words they're speaking. Why create amazing animation, but spend no time on the main characters, the people.

Way better then expected!!
turner-bugzyblue-james9418 September 2020
I've loved Jurassic Park since I was 12. I didn't know what to think of a new Jurassic World TV Series, especially with it being animated. I have to say I was blown away with how good it was. I thought it was gonna be a cheap kids show not worth it but I was wrong. The story is great, the animation is great and there were a lot of suspenseful moments. Definitely give this a shot if you're a Jurassic park fan. Just keep in mind this is a kids show after all so it's not as violent as the movies can be but that sure didn't stop them from making an awesome show. NETFLIX PLEASE RENEW FOR SEASON 2!

While it is slanted towards the younger end of the audience, it holds its own as an exciting, major, relevant entry in the franchise! :-)
stevebondi23 May 2021
The dinosaurs and environment look great and are almost photo-real, and the young characters evolve throughout the series with an engaging story arc! :-) And best of all, the action is really thrilling with some real stakes! :-)

OVERRATED!
dinosaurman-0537012 December 2021
Why do people like this show so much. It's garbage. The characters are annoying, the writing is very bad, and the references to the other films feel really forced. And the worst part, IT'S CANON TO THE FRANCHISE. If you like it then that's fine but I just don't get why.

Good series. Some animation niggles.
antj99915 November 2020
After watching the Dreamworks Arcadia trilogy my expectations were high. The storyline is nice but the characters are stereotypical (nerd, rich brat, scaredy cat) and some of the animation seemed unfinished and unpolished (people and textures on some background set). The scenery and dinosaurs look great. Well worth a watch and I look forward to series two. Hopefully they have more time to improve these niggles.

"Fun for the whole family!"
goeygogo2 August 2022
This was a rare show that we could all watch together and we are sad that it's over. We have four young kids and everyone enjoyed it, all the way from 8 years old down to 1. Though it didn't run 'that' long, we watched it from the beginning and looked forward to each new season. It had its storylines where 4 episodes could have been combined to 1, but the main crew was what kept us always interested.

Missed opportunities
ImpertinentGremlin25 March 2023
This is actually decent with a unique set of characters, solid story within the confines of the Jurassic Park/World universe, and it has many strengths but those strengths are severely weakened by the fact that the writers keep trying to use it to fill plot holes from the movies and as a bridge between Jurassic Park and Jurassic World. It's largely a stand alone story despite this with references and roots to the Jurassic World trilogy.

The same sort of comically inept management which plagues the parks in the movies prevails in releasing a set of teenagers loose in the failing park during the events of Jurassic World. With a few joltingly inconsistent and unbelievable moments to highlight this along the we way and we are left with the main characters on the island after its evacuation as they endure the requisite dino chases and corporate overreach in the same kind of moral critique of human innovation outpacing human wisdom.
