excellent doc about how sports can bridge gaps
williamgway11 May 2020
Wow. Very nicely crafted documentary about how, in a war torn country, life can prevail through the simplest of sports/hobbies. In this case skateboarding in Amman. Skateboarding is s bridge between those who might not be willing to share the same space as adults, and tells this lesson nicely. Good doc. Worth a watch.

Picturesque Setting, Skateboarding, and Kids Coming Together
GilbertS-8516 May 2020
7 Hills is a special kind of documentary with its picturesque setting, skateboarding, and kids coming together. Amman, Jordan, works as the backdrop, and its diversity and excitement come through with every shot. The movie highlights its locals, ex-pats, and refugees who congregate in the city and a specific skatepark that promotes democracy, equality, and community.

For these skateboarders, and many in the world, it's about "the way you see things," overcoming "failure," and the "mental challenge." As somebody who has seen his fair share of skateboard movies, I would say this is not just another skateboard movie. 7 Hills is the kind of documentary I need and want to see. Great music, editing, direction, and a big heart. Bravo.

This work captures a true look at skateboarding culture in a place you wouldn't necessarily think to find it. This sport brings positivity and structure to people's lives globally. This movie is well shot and has a good soundtrack. I highly recommend to anyone interested in skate culture or a good documentary!

Very moving documentary
lindapalmer9 May 2020
I really enjoyed this movie and highly recommend it. It turned out to be much more powerful than I had originally thought and I was moved by the common thread giving each of them hope in their skating community. Something for all ages and very informative about the plight of the people living in Amman and the artistic community accepting others and encouraging their originality and dreams.

Powerful skateboarding doc
JCanni6816 May 2020
So much more than a skateboarding movie, this doc shines a light on the sport, it's culture, and the culture of Amman, Jordan. It makes for an eye-opener into the social/political/cultural challenges in the middle east and how skateboarding can be used to transcend struggles and boundaries. The skateboarding footage was really amazing, so enthusiasts of the sport will certainly not be disappointed. And the interviewees were compelling and pulled you into the world, provoking much thought and discussion. Ultimately, I felt encouraged and inspired by the film.

Enlightening, interesting, and enjoyable documentary
lbruhnca19 May 2020
I especially appreciate documentary's that take me into a new world, where I learn about new places and people. That is exactly what this film does. Skateboarding may be a global well known sport, but people skateboarding in the countries in this film is an enlightening experience to explore. Perseverance, unity, childhood innocence, drive, determination are all themes in this film. It was interesting for me to get a glimpse, beyond the typical news flashes, of life in the middle east countries for these kids/families.

A wonderful documentary in every sense of the word. It is so well made! Such terrific quality! It really opened my eyes with respect to the Middle East conflicts while displaying openly what so many of the people desire. That being, peace and treated with the respect they deserve. This wonderful documentary was so informative. It really opened my eyes. So for me, this is a very easy thumbs up!! Bravo folks, well done!

Just Watch it. International, Skate Boarding, Tony Hawk.
kennyhughes19 May 2020
Just watch it. Especially if you are a skater, internationally minded, philanthropic, want to see goodness. This is a great tale about a skate park popped up in a country where they are all different colors, religions, and see a heap of human misery. And all the kids wherever they are from brighten, lighten and have fun. The things that kids are best at...and the skate well too. This is one of those things you watch with your kids to bond. You watch with your parents to bond. You watch with your friends that have not traveled internationally to bond. Good stuff. Skaters Rule!

Highly Informative Documentary
abuckeye-9363227 May 2020
7 Hills is about the art of skateboarding. The skateboarders learn how fall, pick themselves up and eventually concur the skateboard move or stunt.

Loved it
frankenyolandi19 May 2020
7 Hills was a very unexpectedly enjoyable doco. What I mean by that is that I never thought of kids from those communities doing things like skateboarding, I mean, why wouldn't they? But for some reason, it was never a mental image for me. This film opened my eyes to that reality in a very inspiring and entertaining way. It was beautifully shot, great storytelling and a great story. I can highly recommend this film!

A beautiful and affecting world
directortim201227 May 2020
I'll be honest. I was never really into skateboarding or even skateboarding films. But movies like Minding the Gap and MId-90's opened me up to the idea of skateboarding as sometimes more than a sport, but giving young people a very needed sense of community. Following in that vein is 7 Hills. A beautifully shot and very affecting documentary. This doc furthers that idea of skateboarding as a beautiful refuge, showing young skateboarding refugees from all over the Middle-East joining in the solace and community of the sport. I loved this film! You don't really have to be into skateboarding to get a lot out of it.

What a Beautiful Film About Life and Culture in the Middle East through the lens of Skateboarding!
robertjuster22 May 2020
"7 Hills" really spoke to me, as a beautifully-shot skateboarding/ street art documentary. You can tell that the folks behind the film made it with love - that shines through so brilliantly. It was fantastic to be transported to a world outside my own (Jordan and the Middle East) and view the people and the culture through the lens of skating. Highly recommended!

These are the stories we need to see. So much good!
evelyne-827 May 2020
These are the stories that we need to see. We all think we're so different and the media can paint a negative picture of these territories of war and distress but there was so much hope and beauty and beautiful people full of dreams. 7 Hills is an eye-opening documentary about the skate park in Amman, Jordan 7 Hills. This skate park offers so many outlets to the community to refugees from all over the war-torn Middle East from Gaza, Syria, Yemen, Iraq, and Sudan. This beautiful documentary reveals the beauty of humanity and connection through skateboarding and friendships. So good.

A MUST SEE
lebam-1502710 June 2020
7 Hills I have no idea how a film can cover Civil wars, refugees, racism, children of wars, graffiti art, stereotyping, women equality, and skateboarding in one hour and thirteen minutes. Refuge kids from Syria, Palestine, Somalia, Iraq, and Yemen form friendships at the 7 hill skateboarding park in Amman Jordan. Each with a story to tell. Jesse Locke delivers a powerhouse documentary not only as a director but also as an editor. 7 Hills deserves attention from a wider audience.

Uplifting Story
grantpichla11 June 2020
This documentary has beautiful cinematography, beautiful subjects, and a beautiful story. It's obvious that skateboarding can be more than just an escape or a hobby by the end of this film. Any time a director brings a positive story to the world, it's a positive use of the artform in my opinion. Two thumbs up!

A Skateboard Park Oasis
JGReviews26 May 2020
7 Hills is an eye opening documentary about the 7 Hills skate park in Amman, Jordan. This skate park offers an outlet and community to refugees from all over the war torn Middle East -- people from Gaza, Syria, Yemen, Iraq and Sudan. These types of stories are always remarkable in how people are able to persevere through incredibly difficult conditions that many of us have never faced, and it is inspiring to see how people find outlets in things you might not suspect, like skateboarding. This documentary reveals a common humanity and connection through skateboarding. Having Tony Hawk in the film is also a fun bonus too!

A great humanitarian documentary film.
harriscalvin-121 June 2020
7 Hills was truly a great humanitarian documentary. Director Jesse Locke did a great job working with all of his subject matters. The work that Mohammed Zakaria did to bring skate boarding to Amman Jordan (his country), was intrumental in bringing this sport to both young men & women not only from Jordan but also to numerous refugees from various displaced countries. Tony Hawk was also featured. The music, editing, and camera work were all on point.
