Back in 1986, Caroline Williams played one of my all-time favorite horror final girls, “Stretch” in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. She has followed that with several more horror movie appearances, taking roles in the likes of Leprechaun 3, Blind, and the recent Nicolas Cage Dracula movie Renfield, among many others. Now The Horror Collective has announced that they’ll be bringing us a Christmas-set (and 80s-set) slasher called He Sees You When You’re Sleeping this holiday season, and Williams is in the cast of that movie as well!
Directed by Charlie Steeds, who is also producing the film with Tom Malloy under his Trick Candle Productions banner, He Sees You When You’re Sleeping has the following synopsis: A young man’s Christmas homecoming turns into a nightmare as a killer in a Santa suit gruesomely picks off his estranged, wealthy family for their fortune.

A full Free Movie of the Day is posted on the JoBlo Horror Movies YouTube channel every other day during the week – but on Fridays things get even freakier and a little more fun. Get your weekend started the right way by indulging in Friday Fright Nights! Every Friday, we’ll be taking a look at another genre movie you can watch in its entirety, free of charge, either on the YouTube channel linked above or in the video embed here.
The Friday Fright Night feature we have for you this week is called An English Haunting – which doesn’t leave much question as to what sort of movie this might be. Of course it’s a haunted house movie. And this isn’t always a horror sub-genre that I get much enjoyment out of, because shots of creaky doors swinging open by themselves don’t do anything for me.

Stars: Terry Milam, Jonathan Fuller, Ashley Whelan, Creek Wilson, Brittany Lucio, Richie Stephens, Laura Flannery, Bryan McClure, Sara Morgan, Adam Stephenson, Aspen Kennedy Wilson | Written by Stephen George | Directed by Andre Alfa
The plot of Blackstock Boneyard has its roots in the 1913 conviction and eventual execution of Thomas and Meeks Griffin, two wealthy black farmers for the murder of a veteran of the Confederate army. A murder they didn’t commit and were eventually exonerated of in 2009. This being a horror film, a posthumous pardon is not nearly enough to even the score.
Director Andre Alfa and writer Stephen George‘s story picks up in 2013 as Judge Carroll Johnson ‘Cj’ Ramage the grandson of the judge that sentenced the Griffins to die is about to close a lucrative deal on the land that once was their farm. There’s just one problem, his lawyer has found another heir to the property,...

Hot on the heels of Death Ranch, which features a group of racists who torture and kill strangers, comes this film from Pat Mills, which features a group of homophobes who torture and kill strangers. The tone is very different. There are a lot films out there about hunting humans, but as Mills has pointed out, relatively little has been done on this theme. This is in itself a reason to keep the story straightforward - many viewers will be new to the subject so there's less room to make use of established cinematic language. It also provides an opportunity to show straight viewers how it can feel to face persistent homophobia in more ordinary circumstances.
We're introduced to the situation by a prologue which follows a gay male couple travelling to the titular retreat, which has been advertised as gay-friendly, only to find themselves in trouble. They're friends of one.

You'll know within the first five minutes whether you're wasting your time with Death Ranch or whether you're going to want to watch it several more times within the next week. There isn't much in between. The clothes, the hair, the way the camera captures the moisture in the air, the car - oh, the car - and the jaunty angles at which it is shot make it immediately clear that this is cinema made by people who know exactly what they're doing. It's a spirited piece of grindhouse work full of bloody violence and exploitation tropes, made with love.
Deiondre Teagle is Brandon, a young man on the run. He's recently broken out of prison and his siblings Angela (Faith Monique) and Clarence (Travis Cutner) are determined to help him. The former believes passionately in his innocence. The latter is not that naïve. Unfortunately they have made a poor.

We have a relatively quiet week of Blu-ray & DVD releases to look forward to, but there are still a few things for genre fans to get excited about. Bong Joon Ho’s Memories of Murder is getting the Criterion treatment this Tuesday, and if you haven’t had the chance to check it out yet, you’ll definitely want to give The Mortuary Collection a watch as well. Other releases for April 20th include At Night Comes Wolves, Death Ranch, A Werewolf in England, and Interviewing Monsters and Bigfoot.
Memories of Murder: The Criterion Collection
In his breakthrough second feature, Bong Joon Ho explodes the conventions of the policier with thrillingly subversive, genre-defying results.
Based on the true story of a string of serial killings that rocked a rural community in the 1980s, Memories of Murder stars New Korean Cinema icon Song Kang Ho as the local officer who reluctantly...
