Overall the show was not that bad. Most if the contestants were intresting and had good technical skill but, like another person said I feel like because of the formation of eliminations, there were a lot of missed opportunities. Angelo while entertaining and had good ideas, he is not a technical fashion designer, so the only reason he got as far as he did was because of Charles, which was ultimately not fair for the other contestants who had more skill. I feel like if the formatting of the show was different where we got to see the individual artists first and then every couple of rounds would be a partner round, a different partner each time to get rid of unfair advantages, then we would be able to single out the artists who have good skill, creativity, and are able to hold themselves against all the contestants. I also think that in a group challenge both contestants should not be eliminated. I think the skills and the elements presented by each contestant should be evaluated in the outfit(s). This would once again allow the artists to stand out and allow the artists who had bad partners to be given a second chance (an example of this being the first girl to go home in ep.1).
As for the judges, the judging is completely biased. If I am going based on project runway, Christian plays the mediator, the person who helps out the designers but cannot judge because of the background he has gained from talking with the designers. This should be the same for Next in Fashion. Tan and Alexa both use prior knowledge they have gained from taking with the contestants in order to make their judgments. This is shown in the military episode where Daniel was penalized because he didn't use the blue fabric. This blue should not have played any role in the judging, given that it was not presented on stage, yet it played a rather LARGE roll in placing him in the bottom. Daniel know what he was doing, given that I agree that the blue would have been too much for the trench coat. So all in all, rather than basing their decisions on the artists product themselves, Tan and Alexa based their decisions on their opinions of the designers changes. I also think that how Tan and Alexa determined their winners for each challenge was skewed. If they are supposed to be judging on ideas that are next in fashion, then they should make that the majority of their decision making process. In the early competitions it was really prevalent that they chose outfits that were pretty and nicely made but weren't necessary "next in fashion". I am not saying that they should neglect technicalities but they should also take into account the main theme of the show. This is shown where they tried to eliminate Friai and Keke. While I do agree that their technical skills were bad and messy in the street wear challenge, their outfit was next in fashion. Therefore it shouldnt have been a debate about whether or not they should have went home. As for the lingerie challenge, they did deserve to go home because the outfit was dated along with the fact that their technical skills were bad.
Overall the show needs work on its formatting, its judging, and quite possibly its filming. Other than these negatives, the show was entertaining, and nice to watch. It was refreshing to see a new fashion show, and it was cool to see a big range of designers.
