Sex & Nudity

Violence & Gore

  • There are scenes of, and references to, domestic abuse throughout the film.
  • For example, family members repeatedly attempt to ascertain the sex of a woman's unborn child, intending to pressure her into having an abortion if the foetus is female; there are also verbal references to her having been forced to abort multiple pregnancies in the past.
  • In another scene we hear the sound of off-screen blows and cries which imply a man is beating his wife, but we are then shown that the couple are faking the beating to appease the family.
  • Another woman shows bruises on her face from being beaten by her husband off screen.
  • The film is critical of domestic abuse and features a clear message in support of the rights of women and girls.
