The show as a whole, specifically season 3 and this episode does a phenomenal job at absolutely everything it tries to be and do. It's difficult to discuss any of the show without spoilers, let alone this episode, so just know that it's absolute art. I'm not certain a more fun, beautiful, and unique critique and examination of our society can be made, especially given our sensitivities, today.
By not shying away from caricaturing and lambasting all identities and walks of life in our society, "Slasher" is able to force us to empathise with those we would otherwise not even consider associating. In many ways, this season is representative of the duelling communities of President 44 and 45 supporters-something I'd go into further if it wouldn't spoil the entire season for the reader of this review. Our society does an amazing job of creating villains for us to hate and focus on, and this show moves to remind us that those villains are rarely the evil they appear-in fact, most of the time, they're the ones we should be moving to aid more than any other.
On a side note: the characters referring to each other as their societal caricatures is a stroke of fracking thematic and comedic genius. "Rent Boy," "VR Slut," "Hipster Barista"... the series cements the new social archetypes our society has created and forces us to look at them in the same way the Greeks looked st their Gods, Monsters, and Myths. I could write an entire paper on this aspect of the show alone- Which will undoubtedly continue into the future and lead to the development of a new (to modern society), distinct, and unique genre of story telling.
