Barely SciFi. Not great acting. Let me save you the time...
umrebel8 February 2022
Dad and daughter kidnapped, Dad tortured to give up girl's secret.

Torture... Girl has flashback... Torture... Flashback... Torture... Flashback... Girl suddenly remembers she has (ridiculous superpower) Uses power to escapes.

The end.

Now you don't have to watch this slow movie. The reveal is telegraphed and anticlimactic. And I hesitate to even mention, but a movie where they put an almost 30 yr old modelesque woman in kids overalls and sneakers and pretend she's a teenager, feels like the casting director is a creep.

The acting was pretty good, however the storyline was kind of confusing. Defs not for a casual viewing, I reckon peeps who are super into movies would enjoy this. But I personally found it confusing not terrible tho.

The Hunh?
Couch_Ryder3 August 2021
So this is a easy movie to review all you have to say is #$@#$ was it about? Flashback, super powers, murders, kidnap, it's like the writer said hey lets take a bit of everything from everywhere and shove it in a blender. I would mention the plot, but I have no idea what it was. I guess the acting is okay but again how do you really know when there is just mountain sized plot holes in the script. So do a favour and follow the advice of the movie, ascend to something else.

Honestly... I've been waiting to see this movie forever because I have been wanting to see something new with Charlotte Best. But 1, I couldn't stay focused through this movie to get an actual account for the plot, which left me totally confused as to what I just watch by the end. Ok, she's "something special." But WTF IS SHE?!? A future Avenger? Soon-to-be member of the Legion of Doom?!

Could have been more...

Very disappointing as the story started off ok but it just got worse and worse. Nothing really happened in the film TBH and the ending was just... well crap really!!!

Bring a board game... and a Flask
toddtelle15 April 2021
The most exciting part of this movie was when I spilt my drink down my shorts... during the opening credits. I took my partner to see this, who is suffering from a spine injury and is on a heap of pain killers to the extent that opening the popcorn box provided entertainment to him.. yet half way through he turned to me (to wake me up) and say "this is awful". I was hoping for Saw meets Speed elevator style, what we get is X-Men meets Bridesmaids. This analogy makes no sense, but neither does the plot of this movie...so, I think it's a fair statement.

What a waste of time
druzan24 December 2021
Seriously this movie was terrible. I'd rather watch paint dry than even attempt to rewatch to even understand what was going on. Absolutely confusing, no plot, and just constant crying from the lead actress, no action nor explanation of her powers or what she can do etc. Don't waste your time, this one's really bad, like terribly boring.

Terrible
ramsey-4840822 July 2021
I'm sure there is a good story to be told with this movie but the director failed to convey it to the audience. It's like when your friend tries to tell you something awesome that happened to them when they were drunk but they only retell parts of it to you, as their emotional experience fills in the gaps of knowledge in their own mind, but to you what they are saying makes no sense.

This may have worked as a prequel to an established storyline but not as an initial film with anticipated sequels to fill in the gaps, if that's the way the director planned it to be.

I like Charlotte Best, she did a good job of a terrible film, hope it doesn't hurt her acting career.

Full of holes and goes nowhere
Chocban12 April 2021
This movie had so many amazing storyline avenues and it took none of them.

One character progresses minutely at the end of the film, otherwise it's a lot of flipping and flopping between will they, won't they (no one actually commits to anything) and repeated, slow scenes.

The trailer gave it a full sense of storyline, action and wonder. It does not deliver.

The actors at least do a wonderful job. It's a shame the story was such a let down.

The movie experience reflected its low budget. David Stratton was generous in his review giving it 2/5 stars! Couldn't sit through this again even if was free.

Great concept
info-087859 April 2021
You need to be switched on to watch this. It's not for those who are expecting a film with a trapped girl in a skirt. Performance and Direction was fascinating as were the VFX. Very unique concept and good to see a strong audience watching it.

Better than the trailer
unablake-3888711 April 2021
I think the trailer poorly reflects this film so anticipation to what it will be won't. The film is much better than the trailer. I was in Reading Cinema when I watched this and the screen and sound were great. It really keeps you awake. Probably a few leas lift drops for me would have been preferred as I'm afraid of heights but the shaft scenes and her struggle to find her identity and the game the terrorists play on her. The whole good cop bad cop was great and this doesn't give anything away I promise. I'll go again and take my husband as I missed a few clues that I want to find out.

It's received strong reviews so far but I'd say if you're over 60 this is not the film for you unless you like sci-fi.

Movie with a Confusing Plot : 7 people walked out in front of us
tapishmrd13 April 2021
We got excited by the trailer and went for this movie in Ciniplex South Bank QLD Theater, A lady was there along with 3 kids & 2 teenager...they literally walked out of the movie screen when the torture scenes were shown with no Adult warning. Also the plot is over my ability to understand. So many loose ending with possibility of part 2. The voice over the telephone is so bad that we miss what the story is all about. It really looks like some scene are missing that will put a sense to this movie which the director might have reserved it for part 2....but after watching this movie I am not keen on going to part 2 at all. (Only good part was the Graphics of the movie)

Really terrible
slab-merit11 April 2021
I really cannot believe that I saw the same film as some of these ten out of ten reviews.

For people who posted at the same time with the same language about teenage daughters and violence on film, this is a movie where a man has his fingers removed with a pair of pliers. Roughly a third of this movie is a giant torture scene, reminiscent of Game of Thrones where Theon Greyjoy is tortured by Ramsay.

The plot is "evil man wants to steal powers". It's a plot right out of action films from the 80's. There's nothing that's complicated or "makes you think", unless you're talking about half an hour of flashbacks that don't seem to go anywhere and presumably are meant to tie into sequels. It was quite reminiscent of the Lost series in this way, except that pattern only works when you can come back next week and hope for an answer.

People keep talking about VFX on a film that occurs inside two rooms.

I haven't legitimately seen a person get up and leave a cinema since Skyline (2010). Yesterday I saw it again. The only reason I didn't follow was there were multiple potential outcomes that could have this interesting, but none of them happened. This is honestly a terrible film.

what a waste of my money... boring, really really boring, nothing happens
killermouse-imdb11 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The.storyline ["A young environmentalist wakes, trapped, kidnapped in the elevator of a super high-rise building at the mercy of her tormentors"] sums it up pretty well. The trailer gives away most of the rest, and there is almost nothing else to this film. Her powers, that all the flashbacks, which don't make much sense, allude to, don't appear until basically the very very very end, and only save her, and that's it, seriously, that's it. This is among the most disappointing films I've watch for some time.

1hr 45 min elevator scene
johnjpollock10 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This movie could have been explained in 10-20 minutes. Instead, they dragged out an elevator scene for close to two hours with a dozen flashbacks, a cliche Russian antagonist and the possibility of a sequel.

The trailer pitched an epic super hero movie. What you get is a girl watching her dad get tortured for 1 hr and 35 mins in an elevator followed by her figuring out her powers to kill the big bad Russians.

Acting was good, trailer deceptive. Had the potential for much more, but never got there. Don't waste your money.

Dreary
HerbieStretch9 April 2021
Solid performance from lead actor and supporting actor, remaining small cast of Russian (of course) thugs passable. Plot bizarre, turgid and barely understandable, pace slow, action barely evident.

Premise that the environment is our saviour laudable but cliched.

Not worth watching, as boring as Divergent.

I was the only one in the cinema and I'm not surprised. I started tapping out tunes on the arms of my chair to entertain myself.

Directionless
mjns-387929 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
For a movie about a woman stuck in an elevator, this movie is surprisingly directionless. The first half an hour sets up like it's gonna be a horror movie, with a couple of jump scares and angles teasing something coming into focus. It then backflips from that into the main portion of the movie, a hostage movie. But it just feels shallow. We are given interluding flashbacks that tease a bigger picture, but this just means the movie asking more questions that it won't deliver on. It seems this movie was written with a sequel in mind, given how many unanswered questions it leaves unanswered. On top of that, the clear gaps in logic (such as a phone surviving ~10 drops of free fall from 60+ stories and why did the workers the following day not seem suspicious as a white woman exits a building or the fact that they have 2 elevators just missing that were there the night before?), and an overly unsatisfying ending.

Positives were that visually the movie had a lot going for it, the cgi was good for the most part, with a few exceptions (the scene at the end where when became the elevator wall), actors for the most part seemed believable in their roles and I didn't hate the answers we actually did get from the movie, just wish there was more of them.

Overall not the worst movie ever, but sees either unfinished or was a finished story that they decided to split into 2 movies.

Mediocre film not fit for cinema
dhk-510579 April 2021
Honestly - Just boring.

Not enough happens, even when it does it takes too long to get there.

Not enough character building for the viewer to really care what happens.

A great concept ruined by a terribly boring and uninteresting movie.

I love sci-fi movies, I love "stuff like this" but when you have an interesting concept let down by bad acting, no character buildup, pacing that makes the movie uninteresting, weak twists - The list goes on.

Just not a well put together movie.

Cinema is back
rileyjohn-655099 April 2021
Just watched this with my teenagers last night. What a beautiful looking film. For an independent low budget it hits all the right notes. I can still feel the energy from the fill. My body was shaking from the sounds they use and the beautiful score by the amazing David Hirschfelder. Solid performances, great concept. Little slow in the middle but overall a great father daughter movie but intense.

It's was fine.
tombrady-7550011 April 2021
I don't see what the fuss is, nor do I like some of these negative comment because there are children actors in this film, and they may look this up. So people be civil. Why someone who feels he needs to report people walking out, people walked out of Spielberg's Schindler's list. You a mind reader?

I watched this with my girlfriend and the kids were great, as was the lead actress. I gave this a 7 because it got a little repetitive in the middle. Other than that is was mental. My girlfriend new what was going on, I was a bit behind on it I'm afraid.

Confused
koolestkatofthemall15 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Personally I really did not enjoy this movie, as it confused me and had the most random plot? Was one of the couple people in the whole cinema, and I had also hoped for at least a scene change or a story-line that made more sense.

Honestly I wouldn't watch again.

Not even worth a free ticket
daniellatramosljanin9 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Barely understandable dialogue, plot and scene. Such a shame because it had an interesting premise and i was waiting for a 'boss battle' or at least showing the other protagonist sister as a present day adult which never did, kidnap scene that never happened on screen so nobody felt 'sympathy'. The about of repeated flash backs made me want to walk out of the cinemas, we get it you wanted to destroy something in the future, you don't have to show me 50 times. And if you do show it that many times you should at least show a turning point with a past and future and why it changed and happened the way it did. So many questions with 0 answers. The main antagonist was never even mentioned again and wasn't killed only his henchmen which doesn't even make sense. The music was also extremely loud and dramatic over the same repeated sequence for no reason and became laughable by the end. When it ended I was extremely disappointed and audibly said ' is that it??????'. One of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life.
