Feeling ... Hot... Hot... Hot
Ed-Shullivan20 January 2020
The pilot episode always needs to spend the opening scenes explaining some of the background information on the key personnel who will be starring in this series. I suggest everyone just take a deep breath and welcome you to the year 2020. After watching the pilot episode you will appreciate why Rob Lowe is perfect for the part as Station Fire Captain Owen Strand.

Although very early for anyone to be providing a convincing opinion on how good 9-1-1: Lone Star is (or could be), the pilot episode provided some poignant scenes. Although this TV drama series may be fictional, it still could be considered reminiscent of the internal struggles of the many fire and rescue personnel who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001, and the real tragedies of the survivors who were there in New York city when the twin towers were attacked by terrorists and subsequently collapsed.

Rob Lowe who is the central figure in this TV series plays the newly appointed fire captain Owen Strand, who was personally selected by the city of Houston Texas for his successful leadership in re-building the New York city Fire Department, to repeat his success and re-build a fire station in Houston Texas's Fire Department after a tragic explosion had devastating consequences on the Houston Fire Department with many lives lost. We are introduced one by one to some of the eclectic personalities that Captain Strand personally selects to join his platoon, and we quickly realize their strengths as well.

I am sure there will be a percentage of this TV shows audience that will voice their displeasure with the series need for inclusiveness but that is the reality that our world and the people who inhabit it need to address in a positive manner, and based solely on this the pilot episode I believe Rob Lowe is up for the task.

Little disappointed. I'm hoping it will get better
robfollower21 January 2020
The gay son overdosed on opioids, Muslim woman being a hero badass, and transgender man solving crimes because he/she can see when the truth is being covered up. Give me a break, are American people that dumb that we need every show/movie/commercial to portray the same narratives?

Rob Lowe is carrying the whole show. He is good with comedic sensibilities.

Little disappointed. I'm hoping it will get better - a less preachy, more entertaining drama. Need to focus on bringing out Rob Lowe and Liv Tyler's strengths.

Has potential but needs to ease up on it's signalling
maxglen31 May 2021
I actually didn't hate this. I've just come off the back of finishing 9-1-1 and wanted more of the same with it's own twist and Lone Star seemed to fit the bill perfectly. I think what I saw was a hell of a lot of potential but not much in the way of fulfilling it. The actors and characters are there but the writing seemed a little messy and there was a little too much virtue signalling for my taste. I'm not one of those idiots that thinks that having a gay or trans character in something immediately makes it "PC culture gone mad!" But it's certainly got an agenda which is fine as long as it keeps it in check and makes sure it balances it out with a good story at the end of the day. I'm gonna give it a 6 for now although that is subject to change. I've heard the show gets much better and I'm honestly looking forward to seeing what it brings to the table. Thank you for reading my review and have a lovely day or night :)

"Driving from NYC to Austin Tx. there is no Desert geography."
zhombre5 February 2020
That item from IMDB goofs for this show about sums it up. It is an entirely phony, PC dollop of dull tripe, badly done and detached from any reality except that which exists in the minds of insulated, supercilious Hollywood hacks. They can't even get the geography right, FFS. I own a home in Austin. The people behind this know Austin TX about as well as I know Sanskrit. Rob Lowe is stolid. Liv Tyler is boring. The other actors might be good if they had a decent script and direction but his isn't their oppo.Avoid this rubbish.

Warning: Spoilers
I rate this an 8 I've basically only just finished this and I wasn't disappointed. I can't wait for the next season. It's really interesting I watched most of it on Facebook videos and decided to watch it. The videos didn't do it justice. There will be times you'll be like wtf is going on but it's a good wtf. Especially the volcano erupting. And there will be times your like what idiots but they are amazing I preferred the second season I just hope the 3rd is going to be even better.

Political correctness overkill
missyjroy-3619721 January 2020
I had high hopes for this tv show. (This review is for the Pilot only) My family likes the other "911" tv show and I like Rob Lowe. But they smack you in the face with political correctness when Rob Lowe's character has to go "fix" the firehouse in Texas because"Diversity" is such a huge problem. Then that is the only criteria that really matters when hiring his new team. Other than Rob Lowe, the acting of the other characters wasn't that great either. Hollywood has to insert politics into everything they do these days. I will try to watch the second episode, and only hope it gets better.

Story telling, acting, directing. Some of the worst I have ever witnessed. The final scene with the baby seat in a tree....hilariously bad. May watch again just to see how bad it can get

Disappointed
jlfalwell21 January 2020
I haven't seen the other 9-1-1 shows so maybe they are all like this? The PC box checking was extreme to the point of being ridiculous. They missed only a couple of the identity politics boxes.

It didn't help me when they drove from NYC to Austin, somehow, by going down a small 2 lane road on the New Mexico/Texas border. It was like they were trying use/re-enforce another stereotype of Texas. Either poor writing and research or just lazily disingenuous.

I was rolling my eyes too much to keep watching it. Really disappointed.

Pilot 911

Wow, this is bad. The writing, the acting, the characters. I have cut-out dolls with more dimensions. You can't make 2-D characters layered by throwing a hijab on them, making them gay and/or trans.

Contrived political correctness gone mad
trevorblunn-4845726 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Despite the dreadful pc overkill premis this show is built on. "We've got an issue with diversity - we want you to come and set up the most diverse fire crew we can possibly contrive" it was actually quite watchable.

Disappointed
bbrundige-8646825 January 2020
We were big fans of ER and had hoped that 9-1-1 Lone Star would be of a similar caliber but WOW were we wrong! Since most of the other reviews have divulged the story line I won't go there but the political correctness is nauseating, the lack of any sense of urgency of the emergency responders on this show are a joke..... they're far more concerned with proper camera angles and getting their lines in than they are grasping the concept that their characters are supposed to be saving lives...... if they dont drastically change how this show tells their story, it has no hope of a long run.

Everything that's wrong with the PC culture
Just-A-Girl-1431 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Whoever wrote this episode is either a stupid racist who is so invested in the PC culture that he/she can't see it's doing the exact opposite of what it should or a genius that wanted to show everything that is wrong with it. Since everything in Hollywood is so political I'm assuming it's the first option and not the second but who knows.

Either way, there are so many things wrong with this episode that it's crazy. If this episode was your dinner, you'd spend all night in the toilet with a severe PC poisoning.

First, let's start with the insulting idea that they couldn't find anyone from Texas to be the Captain of the 126 and had to go all the way to New York. Totally ridiculous! There are plenty of capable people in Texas who could do the job. They do not need some New Yorker to come and rescue them. Not only there are plenty of capable people, there are plenty of diverse capable people who can do a great job! Now, I know they tried to justify if by saying they wanted an outsider but the truth is when a tragedy like that happens and you got a broken community an outsider is not what you need. It's actually the opposite, you need someone people can relate too, someone who can start the healing process and bring everyone together, not an outsider "to hate".

Second, there's a difference between giving people opportunities they wouldn't get otherwise and shoving diversity down everybody's throats. For example, the guy who couldn't pass the written tests. They didn't bother to explain what was his problem but for argument sake let's say he's dyslexic. Giving him an opportunity is a great thing to do because you can be a wonderful firefighter even if you have dyslexia but that's a good thing even if you're white. The color of your skin shouldn't be an issue. If you are trapped in a burning building and someone saves your life, you don't give a crap what color/religion/gender they are. I also think it was very insulting that he brought diverse people from all over the US as if it's really hard to find them. What the hell was that for? There are plenty of capable diverse people everywhere. If you're in Austin, you don't need to go all the way to Chicago or Miami! It's so racist to think that. Diverse people are as capable as everyone else. The PC culture makes them seem like charity cases which they are not! I found it very ridiculous the the Captain told her "I don't see a woman or a Muslim" when he was clearly ordered to find diverse people. If there's a job everybody wants and you got hundreds of people applying to it and at the end after all kinds of tests, exams and interviews you're left with the top five, four white man and one black woman. Because of this stinky PC culture, if the black woman gets the job everyone would think it's because she's a black woman. That's not fair! What if she got the job because she's just better?! This diversity crap is literally creating racism. I'm not saying there aren't PLACES in which people needs more help but that's usually related to economic situation. Stop forcing people to think about the differences. It's actually creating more conflicts.

Third, the Captain's son just overdosed like five minutes ago. How exactly did he get this job? Obviously the only reason is his dad. How is that ok in today's culture? Especially since the Captain wasn't willing to let the PTSD firefighter comeback to work. Hypocrite aren't we?

Last but not least, I don't like it that the show is focusing so much on the characters soap opera lives and so little on the actually emergency cases. In just one episode we got cancer, overdose, murdered sister etc... I wish they would focus more on the actual job which is so important, fascinating and can really let people know how to deal with emergencies situations. I'm just saying that if I want politics I watch the news and if I want overly dramatic stories I watch a soap opera.

Ed Sullivan's review
bbrundige-8646825 January 2020
I'm assuming Ed Sullivan (review writer) didn't actually watch the show before he wrote his review trying to shame others for writing a negative review.....case in point, he states in his review several times that the show is about Houston Texas.....it's actually about Austin Texas.....BIG difference!

I do agree that the pilot has to tell the back story of the characters to set the story line but that wasn't the issue with 911 Lone Star.

Really too much to stand
merolla-psicogeriatria21 January 2020
How is it possible to realize such a bad, vicious show, goes beyond my comprehension. U.S., which I love and I love even more now, has citizens who have to watch such a disgusting thing? I'm glad because the authors didn't even try to hide the evidence. The fact that this is just one more alert to the large majority of people in America and everywhere - who by the way are normal persons - what their destiny would be if they don't clearly talk on how dangerous are the sellouts that for some money realized this horrid tv show.
