Well, looks who is back on Fire Country. I knew the third season wouldn’t waste a talent like Constance Zimmer. These writers are really pulling out all the stops to elevate this show.
And kudos to the hands behind the series for keeping things consistent. It really seemed like the show was going to fall back on old habits a few times throughout “Fire and Ice.”
I have to hand it to Fire Country Season 3 Episode 17. The arguments and drama felt real and not forced. The episodic case’s plotting was genius and possibly had an unexpected effect on some viewers.
(Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)
The bottom line is that this has been the best season of Fire Country, and, ironically, I hope whatever spark lit a fire under the writers never dies down.
For one, when have we ever been bigger fans of Miss Gabriela Perez than we have...

In its upcoming episode, Fire Country is going to set up its highly anticipated spin-off series Sheriff Country. This week, Bode (Max Thieriot) teams up with his aunt, Mickey Fox (Morena Baccarin), to start an investigation that hits a little too close to home. In our exclusive sneak peek that Collider can share below, we see the return of Baccarin to the cast and get a little taste of her father's distinctive personality. The episode, titled "Dirty Money," debuts this Friday, April 4.
In our exclusive look at the upcoming episode, Mickey and Sharon (Diane Farr) are told to get in the back of a van, and Mickey gets pretty stressed because it's clear it's not a joke. However, the point of it all is even more stressful for Mickey — she is going to meet up with her estranged father, Wes (W. Earl Brown), who is surprised when he finally sees her.

If there is one area of Fire Country in which fans have established their investment, it’s in Bode and Gabriela’s ill-fated relationship. However, those days could be far behind us now.
Ever since the series introduced Audrey, we’ve slowly watched the possibility of Bode and Gabriela giving things another shot disappear.
However, let’s not get it twisted. Bode and Gabriela had problems long before the newest blonde probie joined Cal Fire.
(Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)
Since the start of Fire Country, the show has managed to keep the “will they, won’t they” between Bode and Gabriela alive and well.
However, some would say the series kept that romance going well past its expiration date.
That said, “Bodriela” had many great moments, and we can’t sweep those under the rug for the sake of the story.

Invincible Season 3 saw an explosive finale when Conquest arrived on Earth to punish Mark and a battle ensued between them. Robert Kirkman’s series didn’t fail to impress us with this third season as well. There was one element that perfectly accompanied all the fantastic characters and jaw-dropping scenes.

As usual, the series nailed the music, using the right track for the right moment. This season featured less musical scores than the first two seasons. If you grew up in the early 2000s, chances are you spent many evenings with Ray Barone (Ray Romano) and his eccentric family in the hit comedy series "Everybody Loves Raymond." For good reason. This critically acclaimed sitcom about Ray, a Newsday sportswriter, dealing with his put-upon wife Debra (Patricia Heaton), bickering parents (Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts), and neurotic brother Robert (Brad Garrett), perfectly captures the working-class family and all its quirks, resulting in a heartfelt, often hilarious look at everyday life.
Running from 1997 to 2005, "Raymond" won 15 Primetime Emmys, garnered critical acclaim, and averaged over 20 million viewers during its peak. More impressively, the cast became household names, forever tied to their characters. Still, while many cast members achieved even greater success following the show's finale, others faded into obscurity or endured heartbreaking tragedy. Interested to learn more? We have to hand it to Fire Country because this series is on a roll with some truly unexpected writing.
Every time it seemed like the show was reverting to old habits, it pivoted to truly inspiring storytelling.
I know a lot of Gabriela and Bode shippers out there are feeling some kind of way after the ending, but there was too much love in the air not to get on board.
(Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)
Besides, it may not have been a box of chocolates, but what woman wouldn’t swoon after being rescued by a fire-breathing (animatronic) dragon?
Fire Country still has room for improvement, but the story, character development, and direction of the series have made noticeable improvements overall.
So, let’s just go ahead and get a few things that could have used a bit more magic on this medieval episode out of the way.

In truth, TV couples rarely move at a normal or healthy speed in their respective relationships.
However, key plot points usually make the commitment speed make sense, but not on Fire Country.
Certain aspects of the story need to be put to rest after completing Season 1 and Season 2. One in particular is this Bode and Gabriela plot that the show needs to be done with.
(Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)
Fire Country made some much-needed changes in its sophomore season, but it wasn’t enough to distract from the plot’s glaring issues.
Much of that is because the storytelling just doesn’t make sense — not for sane characters, anyway.
Fire Country Seems to Be Mistaking Toxic Relationships for Passionate Romance (Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)
In the beginning, it sure made sense that Gabriela and Bode would be attracted to each other.
They were both going through similar situations and bonded during intense life-or-death situations.

With so much change all at once from Fire Country Season 1, it’s a miracle that viewers didn’t get whiplash going into Season 2.
While some adjustments were appreciated, not every change is exactly logical.
It’s very clear from the abrupt story progression and the amount of time between the episodes that the sophomore season was another show affected by the SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Max Thieriot plays Bode Leone in a scene from Fire Country Season 2. (Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)
However, Fire Country made the most of the story they built up before the Season 1 finale. But in trying to redirect the course of the plot, did the series veer too much in one direction and not enough in the other?
For example, instead of Bode always looking like a hero by the end of the episode, now he’s shunned by practically every character. It’s true that he’s made some terrible choices,...

That was just about the most Elsbeth opening to an episode ever! We’re back, baby, and the skies have never been campier.
It’s wild to think it’s been over seven months since the titular character sashayed onto TV screens with her own series. It’s like no time has passed.
Hats off to the Elsbeth writers for the meta-approach to acknowledging the break between seasons.

Genre shifts are pretty common in episodic television. While event TV has taken over, which often means that creatives have to craft a specific tone and run with it, back during the golden age of televised entertainment, series were able to evolve to match the stories they were trying to tell. It meant that a show could remain fresh and would always play to what the audience was enjoying the most. Sometimes, these genre shifts felt out of place and might have been best left on the cutting room floor. However, other times, there were those tonal shifts that truly added something special to the series, as it continued to find its footing. For Penny Dreadful, that's exactly what happened and one of the show's great strengths was its ability to evolve past its initial concept. If audiences were asked upon the first episode where that world would end up,...

Despite Jake Webber being accepted into a prestigious art school in Spain, as discussed in recent episodes of “General Hospital,” the character’s portrayer, Hudson West, is not going anywhere.
According to sources, West remains part of the show’s recurring cast even though the character appears set to leave Port Charles.
During the Monday, July 15 episode, Jake’s father, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), was caught trying to leave money under the front door of Jake’s home where he lives with his mother, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), which would help cover tuition.
Following a conversation with Elizabeth, Jason was invited into the home to discuss the matter further with their son directly, where Jason made it clear that his offer came with no strings attached, particularly as Jason had been an absent parent during much of Jake’s young life.
After agreeing to take the money, the two shook hands and embraced each other.

When Showtime premiered Penny Dreadful a decade ago, we altogether expected a grand monster mash-up. And certainly, series creator John Logan delivered just that over the course of the three seasons that followed. But he also gave viewers something that we couldn’t possibly have anticipated: a horror drama of uncommon depth and crushing beauty. It is for that reason that all these years later, we still can’t help but hope he’ll reconsider his decision to end the show after just 27 episodes with the death of Eva Green’s Vanessa Ives. (Read TVLine’s 2016 interview with Logan here.

Climate change is getting worse day after day, and every uncomfortable conversation we’ve been putting off for decides is waiting for us just over the horizon. Caitlin Cronenberg’s debut feature Humane dives headfirst into that messy, chaotic crisis we’ve built for ourselves, in a chamber piece that has one affluent family forced to make the ultimate decision. It’s a classic thriller set-up with a premise ripped from the headlines of tomorrow’s newspaper, and a great cast of character actors ready to rip each other apart as soon as shit hits the fan.
The world of Humane is not unlike our own. With dwindling resources and increasingly inhabitable conditions, it’s like looking 5 minutes into the future. A future where fresh vegetable and meats are prohibited, and standing for any length of time in direct sunlight with no protection is practically a death sentence. But in...

The CBS drama Fire Country is turning up the heat with plans for a spinoff starring Morena Baccarin. Reports say Baccarin plays a sheriff in a Season 2 episode with the option to become a series regular in the simmering spinoff series. Deadline was the first to report the news, saying CBS Studios would produce the potential spinoff.
Baccarin’s sheriff character is named Mickey. She’s been a sheriff’s deputy for fifteen years and spent much of her tenure studying the landscape and populace of Edgewater. With a tremendous amount of hometown pride flowing like fire through her veins, Mickey does whatever it takes to keep the citizens of Edgewater free from harm.
Deadline says negotiations for the series began before the holiday rush, with Baccarin as the top runner to lead the proposed spinoff. The upcoming episode introducing Mickey acts as a backdoor pilot for the character, with...

Editor’s note: This review was originally published at the 2023 Fantastic Fest. Well Go USA releases the film in theaters on Friday, November 10 and on streaming platforms on Tuesday, November 14.
“America doesn’t care how you get your money.” That line serves as a bleak thesis statement for “Your Lucky Day.” The feature debut from writer-director Dan Brown proceeds from the assumption that in America, nothing — not family, not integrity, not your personal safety or the safety of others — is more important than getting rich. And once you are rich, nothing else matters, including how you got that way. You can pay for lawyers to take care of all that, as sensitive stickup kid Sterling (Angus Cloud) tells his hostages early on in the film.

Ethan Peck takes on the role of Spock in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, exploring the character's early career before becoming First Officer on the USS Enterprise. As the son of a Vulcan Ambassador and a human mother, Spock grapples with reconciling his human and Vulcan sides, as shown through his romantic relationships with a Vulcan fiancée and a human nurse. While Ethan Peck's portrayal of Spock incorporates more willingness to express emotions compared to Leonard Nimoy's stoic portrayal, it still reflects the character's journey towards achieving the level of control seen in Star Trek: The Original Series.
Ethan Peck is the latest actor to take up the iconic role of Spock in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. It’s jarring how much the entertainment landscape has changed since the last writers strike: In 2007, Netflix was still primarily a DVD-by-mail business, Amazon Studios and Apple hadn’t yet crossed over from Silicon Valley to Hollywood, and streaming as we know it didn’t exist. Now there’s more content being produced than ever, with the streamers and legacy players like Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery spending well into the billions each year.
Once again, a strike is happening during a period of widespread economic uncertainty spurred by inflation, concerns of a recession, and mass layoffs in media and entertainment. But this time around, there’s a twist: the ascension of generative artificial intelligence. If half the internet can be tricked by an AI-created Drake and The Weeknd collab, could that same tech write scripts and enable studios to create more content for less money?

California is getting into the “Star Wars” business, with the state committing 20.9 million in tax subsidies for a new Disney+ series called “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.”
The recent “Star Wars” films have been shot in the United Kingdom, where they receive government subsidies. But four other “Star Wars” TV series, including “The Mandalorian,” have filmed in California without receiving state incentives, according to California Film Commission records. The shows — the others are “The Book of Boba Fett,” “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and “Ahsoka” — have all shot at Mbs Media Campus, a state-of-the-art soundstage facility in Manhattan Beach.
“Skeleton Crew” is also rumored to be filming at the location, which is outfitted with Ilm’s StageCraft technology.
It will be the second most expensive TV show ever funded by California’s tax credit program, behind only “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels,” a Showtime historical drama that ran for one season in 2020 and received 24.7 million in state incentives.
