Not as good as Eurovision

Positive : 1. I get to know many hidden talents. Grant Knoche from Texas has many amazing songs. Wyoming representative has catchy entry.

Negative : 1. Awful camera work.

2. Too many people on the stage. Messy.

3. Eurovision has many bad songs but not as many as in ASC.

If NBC expects me to keep watching this, I'm gonna need a whole lot less of this Kelly and Snoop show business. Kelly is just LOUD, and I'm not sure Snoop even knows where he is.

Agree, this is WAY over produced. Some wonderful talent, and some talent that needs to go back home and rehearse some more.

Maybe with different hosts...

Everything is very loud, chaotic and rushed. The first episode had a couple of good songs, the same could not be said about the second episode. Snoop is a bit boring and feels out of place. But the worst thing by far is Kelly Clarkson. She is beyond annoying, unfunny and LOUD! I don´t know if I will continue to watch this but if I do I will mute Kelly every time she appears on screen!

For those who are not familiar with the Eurovision Song Contest, it is a lot more fun. I suggest people check that out.

Wow. This is a cheap and cringey knock-off of Eurovision Song Contest.

I genuinely would've been impressed with this show if they decided to follow the rules like in ESC- no auto-tune, no pre recorded harmonies.

If this is the best talent for each state we're doomed. It looks more like they're trying to film music videos than perform for a contest. I noticed one girl lip syncing, well let's just say her voice was playing and her lips weren't moving.

It's a given with these music competition shows that they'll be full of gimmicks and scripted fluff, and it's always the worst part but for some reason they keep making them this way. ASC is no different, but in my opinion, the combined charm of Snoop and Kelly make it more tolerable than it would be with other hosts. They're both so naturally funny that the scripted bits soften seem self-aware and sometimes even sarcastic.

I was very put off by almost all of the music in the first round. I don't listen to much modern music, so everything was sounding just like the kind of generic stuff I try to tune out when I hear it played in the grocery store, only somehow even cornier. BUT I'm glad I stuck around for the semifinals, because after almost everyone in the competition was eliminated, we're now left with a much smaller crop of surprisingly catchy songs and artists that really seem to be taking the show seriously.

I think the biggest problems with this show are a lack of marketing and a wonky, inconsistent voting process (as far as I can tell). Live shows that require viewer participation really need to figure out how to adapt now that people don't have live TV. It's hard to stay invested when you're watching the next day, even though they have extended the voting window in the past few weeks.

Regardless, I love what this show is trying to do and the inclusive vibe amongst the contestants.

There are so many lights flashing, noises crashing, people screaming! The talent has litlle opportunity to shine on its own. Some singers are clearly not singing live! Snoop Dog and his phony hype...argh. Shame. I want to see the talent of the singers, not the production and lighting.

A new and exciting format of show for Americans!

The songs and format are really cool and new for the USA. I love Eurovision and I'm excited thst they are bringing it to the US. The energy is great and the performances are really fun.. I can't wait to see more!

Eurovision into American Song Contest

I was afraid of the results how the show will turn out when it was published.

It could have turned out worse, but it just feels like another music show from US This could be American Idol, Voice, X Factor... Exactly the same production as those... For a European, grown with Eurovision... This was cringy to watch....

Many great original songs, concert paying worthy stage performances, great background CGI, easy on the ears and eyes, very user friendly.....etc. Ain't quaint eclectric Eurovision and it shouldn't be as it's refreshing sunny American song contest. With so much negative happenings these times in everything, everywhere, all at once, let's not everyone be a cynic. Enjoy. Just do it!

Normally I like Kelly, but she seems to just be talkin to make up for snoops lack of awareness. Boring! A wannabe competition for singers.( in my opinion)

I find the background info on the states interesting but the singing was not good. I skimmed through most of it because it was so bad. I love Kelly and on the Voice she's great but here she was way too loud with both her dress and voice. Snoop just seemed awkward. The production is a bit overdone esp. On the actual stage. Too many flashy lights and dancers that distract from the actual singing. And some of the singers aren't even singing. They are lip syncing and it's obvious. Also, if someone is going to represent a state, talk about various faucets of the state, not just one or two. Indiana is definitely known for more than just the Indy race and basketball.

I really wanted to like this show, but it's boring. I would have given it a zero but it wasn't an option. For all it's hype I expected it to be an awesome show. Too bad.

Biased contest

Its obviously a biased choice of who is talented and going to the semi-finals. Look up who the 56 jurors are and you see what I am saying.

A disappointing show that I am no longer going to watch. Real talent is passed up over talent that won't get pass this show in regards to fame. And this review I can't even tell the whole truth because the rules state so many rules or it will be deleted, which basically means you can't say anything wrong about what you observe.

a fun time

As a music lover myself, I think it's fun watching all the new talent on stage and seeing the rivalry. Sure some of it might be fake but whoooooo careeeesss.

If your looking for a fun silly show to pass the time, explore new music styles, and just judge people then this show is worth a watch.

First time watching and still impressed

I know that the American Song Contest is trying to copy the Eurovision or Melodifestivalen format. I watched the performances for the first time. I know major changes need to be made, but I was still very impressed with its first season. The concept of the American Song Contest is different from the talent shows like The Voice and American Idol so I know it will not be like those shows. It did meet my expectations in that it should have a happy and fun atmosphere but to go beyond my expectations. Will need to make changes like less Snoop and Kelly time and more campy and "joke" entries. Will watch again hopefully with improvements made.

Pretender, should be cancelled

I stuck it out through the qualifier rounds to give this series a fair shake. That was a waste of time.

Ultimately the strength of any singing competition relies on the chemistry of the hosts and the talent of the singers.

The hosts? Horribly mismatched. Kelly is too excited to be there and Snoop obviously doesn't care.

The singers? The songs? Maybe 1-2 I'd listen to again, out of 56+. That's a problem. The worst part being that the "big name" performers were some of the worst.

I sat there in quiet shock watching Jewel explain to me what a song was about while she was singing the song. Cringing.

Really hope it's not back for season 2, and if it is, I won't be watching this.

Copycat

There is some talent here and there.. but to me it's just a silly tryhard copy of eurovision. America can't expect that stealing europe's 65 year old contest, wich is based on every country's cultures, to go very well.

Not that America has no culture. It's just that it doesn't fit like it does with Europe. It was still a very good try.

States don't actually choose their representatives

This could be a lot of fun if it wasn't such a scam setup. None of the creators really thought people might prefer to choose their own representatives?!? It's a lot harder to get behind someone that some undisclosed group of people chose for you. Besides this, the caliber of songwriting is really not there. A couple catchy tunes and a heartfelt ballot or two but no substance, even from the established artists.

And seriously, everyone I know that is from Oregon is ridiculously embarrassed that they let those bozos represent them.

And being from Colorado I could name you a handful of people off of the top of my head that would blow riker Lynch out of the water.

I'm an audiophile. And my ears don't ever want to "see" that show again.. Jeez you've already landed Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson just let them sing for an hour or so and you probably get a lot better following.

Not good, hope it's cancelled after the first season

The makers of Eurovision also made this show. It's not good. I'm not sure what happened to make this such a disaster, but the marketing was terrible, the concept is weak for a US audience, and the hosts just aren't good.

I would rather Eurovision go to Asia or some place that will have more hype surrounding it... Very few people know of this shows existence in the US.

Entertaining Snoop is hilarious. Kelly is awesome this the US version of EUROVISION a show that introduced Celine Dion and ABBA Can't wait for next episodes and final competition.

AleXa's obviously going to steal the whole thing which sucks. BECAUSE SHE ISN'T THAT GOOD. But she's K-pop and everyone goes damn NUTS for K-pop for some reason. Also, this "jury" is on crack. Ranking awful songs above all the good ones. Justice for New Hampshire, Alaska, and Wisconsin.

Don't slate the idea first year.

I found it interesting, a d many songs were good to. Vinner should every year participate in Eurovision.

Good luck in making this a tradition, with a few changes to make it as electric as Erovision.

A terrible copy of Eurovision Song Contest.

1- There is chaos on the stage, it is very crowded.

2- The audience is constantly cheering, even if it is irrelevant, it is meaningless.

3- More emphasis is placed on the choreography than the song. All the choreographies are also quite adolescent work.

4- The director is very bad. Camera angles and scales are sloppy. Video designs on leds are fail, and not stylized.

5- Anchors are reluctant.

6- The concept of voting and results is unclear, And there is no hype.

As a result, it was a very cheap job that was not worked on. I think the second season will be cancelled.

A lot of fluff little music. There is so much talking and wasting of time, personally I love the two hosts, but on this, they are really aggravating and unnerving and unfunny and just downright ridiculously stupid. There are some really talented performers in this show, but the few minutes of songs in between a lot of nonsense is not very entertaining. I've been recording it and fast forwarding through everything except the songs, that's the way to watch this irritating nonsense!
