Sharon Elliott is nothing but a very complicated woman. At one critical juncture in "Sinister Seduction" (a.k.a., "Cruel Fixation"), she asserts that she is tired of taking orders from men. Yet, it is clear that she has always had a will of her own. During her marriage to the domineering health guru Mark, Sharon had an affair with her fellow realtor, then evidently completely forgot about him. In the meantime, her husband Mark was murdered, and the killer is still on the loose. It will be up to Sharon and the hapless detective Teddy Mills to find the killer before he strikes again.
Into Sharon's life comes a new figure in the form of a high school chum of her son Anthony, a boy named Dylan. Dylan is a genuine beast who is looking after Anthony who has a case of the freshman blues and is being bullied by a kid named Brent Kilby. It was never very believable that the diminutive Dylan could be a high school quarterback and the beanpole Anthony an apparent running back! But Dylan takes Anthony under his wing, and he also has his sights set on Sharon. In one of the most improbable parts of the film, Sharon begins an affair with Dylan the Beast!
At heart, Sharon seems like a compassionate soul, as apparent in her friendship with her co-worker, the realtor named Katie. Sharon is also devoted to her son, who she realizes is suffering from the loss of his father. Mark Elliott had written a bestselling book called "Pro-All Lifestyle," that is an essential reference point in the film. Mark was a hard-driving husband and father, and the mother and son bonded around a more gentle, sensitive approach to life. Egged on by Dylan the Beast, Sharon tears the pages out of Mark's book.
Sharon would appear to be breaking out of her shell from a former life where her husband always came first. Her confidante Katie actually describes Mark as "inhuman." At the same time, Sharon has not yet overcome her serious boundary issues that leads her into a dysfunctional affair with Dylan the Beast. It will be up to the viewer to conclude if, by the end, Sharon has progressed beyond merely offering her cop friend Teddy a morning doughnut, or if she is finally prepared for an adult relationship.
