Sam and Dean investigate the mysterious demise of drowning victims who were nowhere near water at the time of their death. They learn that each of the victims saw a ghost ship before they died.

Strange land-locked drownings are happening and the boys head to the coast to find out why, discovering a Ghost Ship has been witnessed by each of the victims shortly before their deaths. They find that Bela is already involved, running a scam on elderly Gertrude Case, the aunt of the first victim with a crush on Sam.—Anonymous

Sam discloses to Dean his unsuccessful meeting with the Crossroad Demon while they head to New York to investigate the mysterious death of Sheila in the shower. They interview her aunt Gert and find that the young woman had seen a ghost ship before her death. Then they read about another similar case and they find that the other victim had also seen the vessel with his brother. They decide to protect him and save his life, but they do not succeed in their intent. Meanwhile they find that Bela Talbot is luring Gert to take her money. Bela further discloses that the ghost ship is the "Espírito Santo" and the killer was hanged by the captain a couple of centuries ago, returning every thirty-seven years to kill sinners. The brothers bicker over their dealings with the crossroad demon on the way to a New York sea port where mysterious indoor drowning occurred. There they work out it's all related to a mysterious ghost ship, the first of many wrecked but reappearing every 37 years. They bump into and get pressed into collaborating with remarkably informative Bela Talbot, who was swindling a victim's filthy rich aunt Gert as a medium. Dean has to go as Bela's date, poor Sam as Gert's so Dean can steal from the shipping museum a severed hand relic, only to get several more scary surprises.—KGF Vissers
