Weak Direction and Cinematography to this could be Super Hit movie
The first part was fun. Once announced, it came to my watchlist right away and I was excited for it. Considering it's a different movie than other, expectations went higher. But what happened? The story that could have been well polished, is wasted. The direction is very poor. Cinematography poor. Poor writing and making it become a dark movie. I don't understand why this comedy has to be dark? BGM was upsetting. Some performces, except the leads, were so poor that we couldn't even bare watching. It's a different story, is a Sit-Com which is the reason it has some positive wom, or else with this direction the movie will go nowhere trust me. Add some unnecessary drama and some missed moments.

Funny movie
mguru-rao2 May 2020
Don't understand all the negative review. Movie was pretty funny - little bit of drag or preachy in between, but it is kind of needed for homophobic brain washed people. Most of us in India have been brought up in this manner - education, family, friends etc all these factors points towards making fun of homosexual people. See I got preachy too .... this movie was kind of targeting such audiences to open up their eyes. Anyhow this is no brainer, full time pass, comedy drama movie. Highly recommend.

Good Joint Family System Drama
Hussain-AL-Naseer26 May 2020
Despite of the bold plot which might not be pleasant for many, film never fails to entertain. The direction of Hitesh Kewalya is good and the dialogues are lit as it provides plenty of laughs. Ayushman's acting is just hitting the spot as it is required not above not below just as required according to the plot and supported well by Jitendra Kumar. The reason to like this movie is the relatable family drama and Chaos in joint family system especially in small towns. Once again the chemistry of Neena Gupta & Gajraj Rao is something to watch. Manu Rishi & Sunita Rajwar as Chacha Chachi never disappoints. Special mention to Maanvi Gagroo as Goggle she was funny, beautiful and sympathetic right from the first scene. All in all the movie is entertaining and will surely provide you good laughs.

With a message movie is good. - itsbymayank
mayanklouteriya21 February 2020
So here is the first Rom-Com Gay Movie of Bollywood. With Perfect pace of Comedy Movies revolves around Homophobia(Gay). First half is perfectly made, full of punch lines but the second half is bit slow(a bit). All characters done a nice work. Both Lead Actors Ayushmann and Jittu are amazing. Movies not great neither average too. A perfect Debut film is Jittu Bhaiya. I like the movie. I watched this for Ayushmann and Jittu and it gives perfect message and it clears some doubt too. A worth watch movie it is.

A missed Opportunity.
Tejas_Vinda_AITS21 February 2020
Generous (6/10)*

Movie is a decent attempt and makes an interesting comment on homophobia which exists in our country.

A major chunk of the film is about conflict within the family and during such times, the principle homosexuality angle takes a backseat.

First half is very humourous and timing of punches r perfect.

Post interval however, the film drops. The scenes are supposed to be funny but don't make you laugh. Also it becomes too lame and unconvincing. The makers try their best to make things interesting but it doesn't work.

A missed Opportunity.

Forced comedy
siyasingh-4088918 April 2020
It was completely disappointing. Had high expectations but the movie somehow couldn't deliver the comedy, most of it was looking forceful. The only thing good about movie was the cast.

Top of the Tier Entertainer, That Delivers the Core Message Fluently!
SoumikBanerjee199620 April 2020
I Didn't like the First Installment 'Shubh Mangal Savdhaan' that much cause of the convulatded plot and sloppy execution on the core issue. Unlike here where the message has been successfully delivered with solid entertainment all over it.

Let's Sum up the Pros here,

#1 The Performances are the Soul of this film. With everyone performing to their absolute best! Gajraj Rao, Jeetendra, Manu Rishi, Maanvi they just steal the show!

#2 The cinematography and the sound score is well shot and put. The direction is top notch. As a Debutant, Hitesh Kewalya has done a fantastic job as the director here.

#3 Screenplay and Dialogues are on the upper level. They make you laugh on a consistent basis. The powerful combination of them worked wonders.

#4 The characters and their chemistries in between are Electric. They Gelled so well together. This ensembled cast is something Special. Must mention Ayushmann And Jeetendra. Them, as a Gay Couple lit up the screen. Their Chemistry was on fire.

#5 The most positive thing here is that the a sensitive subject such as Homosexuality has been handled carefully with a fun element in it. It never seemed to force upon its particular views on us. It rather makes us decide to make the call or a generate an opinion on this regard.

But at the same time. The seriousness and the Emotional moments failed to book a place. Cause of the linear writing & fun elements all throughout the runtime. It never really showcases real life sufferings and horrors one might have to suffer because of their different Sexuality in our society. That's the only Con I have in here.

As for the Homosexuality subject, In my opinion 'If two people irrespective of their sexuality and genders love each other with their whole heart and Loyalty. There's nothing wrong in it' It doesn't matter whether We as society encourage that particular relationship or not. But We must not atleast discriminate them. Let them be like they are. Let them Live and love. There's nothing Bigger than Love & Respect. We all have rights for it.

Microsystem makes mesosystem and then exo and macrosystem. So, what favors the individual family is most likely the right instinct
ridi-arahan31 August 2020
What worked: The movie is an very Indian Bollywood movie with elements of comedy, drama and emotional scenes with maybe some extra spice as well. The makers should be highly applauded for the theme of the movie and the way the movie is executed; written and directed. It's the humor of the makers that made even the glorified melodramatic scenes reasonable and fun to watch. The screenplay is well done, and the narrative seemed to stay on balanced spot to explore a very pivotal subject in a not so liberal system. What makes the movie even special is allowing the space for the parents to convey their shock ,doubts and their weaknesses.Overall, the movie delivers its message and keeps the audience hooked in its storytelling. What did not work: One of the biggest concerns for me was the kiss scenes between the two lead actors;once in train and the other in the marriage ceremony. Although I consider myself liberal and open minded, it was one of the most challenging scenes both for the makers and the viewers. Kissing scenes done in such a celebrated and cinematic way is daring and at the same time inviting biases and extreme reactions. I personally believe the makers could have sent the message without showing the kiss scene or implied of the kiss. It's a shocking scene. I would have liked the movie more if not for the sexuality and sexual orientation and preferences were not so much glamorized or questioned. Ayushman's character is a bit loud as compared to Jitendra. You may argue of course because he represents the dominant alpha male. I disagree, it's still a bit louder than necessary. Besides the real topic of the movie ,maybe the movie has tried to use the topic of sex, romance amongst other lead characters such as the parents story. Somehow they might have overdone at parts. Having said all these, the movie is worth a watch, a family drama with a very progressive and necessary topic. Final verdict: recommended

Another winner from Badhaai ho (plus) cast.
MuviFan7322 February 2020
Story & Tone: The movie is about homosexual couple, there acceptance into society and finally their fate. It is different and better from its prequel. It brings back the hilariousness of Badhaai ho.

The story puts light on homosexual nature and how people, society and family deals with such subjects.

Direction, Screenplay, Cinematography: A commendable job from first time director Hitesh Kewalya. Other added categories are worth praising as well. Music: Average. Acting: Justified, Badhaai ho and added cast fuel the humor.

Final Verdict: The movie is another winner from proven cast. You will have a fun ride watching it.

+ Good family drama portrayed by Jitu's family. Good acting by Jitu Good social message

- Bad screenplay Bad direction Plot is erratic and confusing. Aayushman khurrana seems the only one misfit among all characters.

Verdict: Good message conveyed through bad screenplay and direction.

Audience Savadhaan ... Opportunity wasted!! #sanjuzzreviews
sanjubhat22 February 2020
A love story on a bold subject which should have been a path breaking movie turns out to be a damp squib unfortunately... Too bad!!

A weak storyline.. no wait ... No story at all leads to its downfall . A gay couple Ayushman and Jitendra Kumar try to get their families to accept their relationship. This is the story and the whole movie has incidents added in between to drag the film to a predictable climax.

Even though the film boasts of a stellar cast, none of them are able to do justice to their roles due to the weak script. Very few moments where u actually feel like laughing. Ayushman, as I had said in my last review needs to do something new. Doing the same thing time and again is not going to help. A fine opportunity wasted by the makers.

5 stars out of 10 for this "Happy and Gay" film. Skip the theatre and watch on prime video .

RIB-TICKLING
SinhaSomesh21 February 2020
#FinalVerdict

The last few years have proved that 'small films' (in terms of costing) have big stories to tell. Also, one of the strengths of the recent success stories was their absorbing storyline, which was so well presented on celluloid by their creators. A film like Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan shuns the conventional plot and brings the issue out in the open determinedly. In fact, it's a forward-thinking, avant_garde movie that holds worldwide appeal. Above and beyond, the endeavor to transport the issue out of the closet and presenting it in a light tone in the backdrop is an added move that merits acknowledgement. Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is the ultimate culture shock for Indian audiences.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is a comic caper, with a smart screenplay and witty dialogue as its aces. It is funny, has a lot of energy and most importantly, as you protest that Hindi movies thrive on beaten-to-death formula, a film like Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan defies the stereotype and comes alive with a brand new recipe (writer: Hitesh Kewalya). The writing is airtight and the movie moves from one episode to another furiously. Original in style and thoroughly entertaining, backed by colorful characters and superior acting, there's no film quite like this one or should I say, there is no film that matches the sheer brilliance of Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. It's a top-quality comical made with guts and gusto. I can assure, you will exit the auditorium with a grin on your face.

Come to think of it, very few movies can claim to make you laugh at the right places, yet mirror the realities concurrently. Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan walks the thin line wonderfully. The on-screen characters seem straight out of everyday life. The focus is on telling a story that's fascinating and enthralling. This one's armed with a fascinating premise that's nourished with care by the raconteur, magnificent act by its lead actors, dollops of humor (wicked, sparkling, smart) that's punctuated so well in the scheme of things and eye-filling production design.

While the first hour is thoroughly amusing (a few episodes are howlarious actually!), the post-interval do a somersault. Writer/Director Hitesh Kewalya introduces certain complications in the lead characters' lives, which take the familiar route and dilute the impact, albeit faintly. Also, a few episodes don't work, the pacing gets slow, the narrative is prolonged... till it gathers steam towards its resolution. The film never gets into the serious zone or melodramatic, but remains lightweight all through, which is a plus. In short, Hitesh Kewalya has cleverly written the film to suit the Indian sensibilities, which works exceedingly well for the Indian spectator.

The music & lyrics (Tanishk Bagchi-Vayu) of the film is plain okay. In terms of visuals, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan has been filmed at real locations and the DoP (Chirantan Das) captures the essence extremely well. The eye-candy locales are clearly missing here. Instead, what we get to watch are real locations and real lower middle class surroundings. Even though this is director Hitesh Kewalya's debut film, his directorial spark shines throughout the film. One has to appreciate and applaud him for paying heed to even the minutest of the detailing that has gone behind every character. However the story of the film leaves a lot to be desired. He seems very confident with the camera and its angles and is definitely one name to watch out for in the days to come. Even though the film has its 'could-have-been-better' moments, the film scores on the director's ability to extract performances from the star cast. The only problem, however, is that the film starts lagging in places, which could have been taken care on the editing table (editing: Ninad Khanolkar).

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is a boy's film predominantly (although the women have key roles to play) and boy's films are always fun. The chemistry between Ayushmann Khurrana, Jitendra Kumar and Gajraj Rao is what makes the script come alive. In fact, I won't be wrong in stating that their sense of humor is very much in sync with each other. This is Jitendra Kumar's best work to date, no two opinions on it. Ayushmann Khurrana gets yet another demanding role and the actor, who has already impressed us with his acting skills, casts a spell yet again. Gajraj Rao is incredible. Neena Gupta is the scene-stealer actually. As a matter of fact, the performances by these actors will be the talking point once the film releases. Manu Rishi Chaddha is in top form yet again. Maanvi Gagroo has a naturally endearing screen presence. She does add 'weight' to her character. Sunita Rajwar and PankhurI Awasthy are equally competent and have an important part in the madness.

On the whole, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is a winner all the way. In terms of content, it might just prove to be a trendsetter. In terms of business, the film holds tremendous appeal for the youth. Its business at multiplexes mainly will be amazing. Aanand L. Rai, Himanshu Sharma, Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, the producers, deserve to be lauded for treading the untrodden path. It requires courage and conviction to swim against the tide in your directorial debut. Hitesh Kewalya, the debutant director, deserves a few brownie points extra for not thinking straight. Ayushmann Khurrana and Jitendra Kumar deserve an ovation for not only agreeing to play these characters, but also infusing life in them, without making a mockery of the gay community.

HILARIOUS TAKE ON HOMOSEXUALITY WITH HUMOUR !
SAMTHEBESTEST21 February 2020
SHUBH MANGAL ZYADA SAAVDHAN REVIEW -

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan caught attention from the trailer itself and left us wondering over it's concept. There had been so much talk about the film's concept from both the sides like negative and positive, therefore final product was awaited for those reasons as well. Without any further delay i can say the final product is a success whether it is entertainment quote or social message. Ayushmann Khurrana delivers another winner, another hit film in his kitty.

The film is not a sequel to Shubh Mangal Saavdhan at all and it's very much clear to all of us. This is about same sex marriage and society's mindset on an awkward topic like homosexuality. Kartik (Ayushmann Khurrana) and Aman (Jitendra Kumar) are in love and wants to get married but will thier families and society accept them? What happens when the typical family of Aman Tripathi come to realise about Kartik-Aman relationship, how they battle against all odds is all about the script.

Coming to the acting of Ayushmann Khurrana, this guy is just ruling every genre and getting better with every film. Here, he plays a gay but never make it look lusty or too awkward. Kartik (his character name in the film) has his own swag and he's always ready to tackle any difficulties. Jitendra Kumar as his partner Aman Tripathi looks confident and vulnerable. What i liked the most about this film is it's supporting cast. There is a family, there's a chaos and every member of family gets involved in all important scenes and laughters. Neena Gupta is fearless like never before and Gajraj Rao supports her in hubby-wife chemistry with simplicity. Pankhudi Awasthi looks so gorgeous and cute in every frame despite being a sidelined character. Characterisation of Manu Rishi Chaddha (Chaman) and Maanvi Gagroo (Goggle) is so freaking hilarious already.

The film is also blessed with an Impeccable writing skills and uniqueness in the content. Giving major role and heavy dialogues to supporting cast was a risk but it has worked big time. It is one of those rare films where people will remember the supporting cast of the film. Tanishk Bagchi too doesn't disappoint at all, even though he fails to deliver a massy chartbuster he doesn't fail to give situationally enjoyable songs. 2 remake songs have got solid videos to please yours eyes whereas fresh songs like 'Gabru' and 'Oo La Laa' are pleasing to ears. I won't forget to give a special mention to dialogues which are there in the film to make you laugh out loud for sure.

Writing of Hitesh Kewalya overtakes his direction in this race. This powerful writing could have got little better with couple of more dramatic and impressive scenes and that was director's job. Nevertheless, he has certain winner product in hand and there is nothing much for bashing. If you're trying to make a sense then you should make it in likeable way and that's where Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan wins you over with it's hilarious story-telling.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan makes a rare combo of an urban topic and single screen humour. This subject with sensitivity might have gone favourable only and only for multiplex audience but Hitesh Kewalya moulds it into massy situational comedy. I hope this trick will help film's content to reach to pan india audience and the importance of the subject gets noticed by people. Overall, Shubhmangal Zyada Saavdhan has it all what you seek from any family entertainer along with enough dose of social message. Go and catch this fun ride in your nearest theatres.

Nonsense movie
shadabsiddique19 April 2020
Theme and story is totally nonsense. For the first time ever found Ayushman loud and out of sync. His acting was weird. Badhaayi ho and Bala were perfect in all aspect. But this one was crap. Request to Ayushman not to spoil his movie career Graph in the name of experimentation. I gave 3 stars only for Neena Gupta. Else this movie is 0 star movie.

Brilliant sequel with different flavor of same sex marriage.
prafullasrivastav22 February 2020
Performances: Ayushmann Khurrana is turning into one of trusted actor from Bollywood as he is giving hit one after another e.g. Badhaai ho,Dream Girl, Article 15, Bala. What a great and perfect debut by the Digital sensation Jitendra Kumar . Badhaai ho's on-screen pair Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao again showcased good chemistry which spark humor spontaneously. Manu Rishi, Maanvi Gagroo and Punkhudi Awasthy have done fantastic job in supporting roles.

Direction: Debutant director Hitesh Kewalya did fabulous job in term of simplification of complex message. It is really important to engage the audience while giving some bold message to society. This is the USP of this Hitesh's direction.

Script: Once again credit goes to Hitesh for great sequel script with lots of comedy and entertainment. There was no dull moment in 2 hrs complex family drama with full of entertainment.

Dialogue: Every time, you listen some dialogue, you get some punches. One major aspect for these dialogues was perfectly timed by actors. That's why these hilarious dialogue made more sense in this movie.

Music: This is the weak point of SMZS as again series of reprise old hit song. Nowadays there is sheer drought of creativity in the area of music. Although Gabru and Arey pyar Kar were good one.

Box-Office: As it opened with 9.55 crores, it will earn 70-80 crores as lifetime collection because words of mouth is positive for this movie.

Target Audience: Young and Urban region

Last Words: Ayushmann has come up with new formula which you should watch in cinema halls.

Not bad
jayamukerji22 September 2020
The only thing I did not like with this movie is that it was the plot was very basic. All in all it was funny, acting was good (except Ayushman Khurana in certain scenes where I felt he was overacting) . I rarely see Bollywood movies representing lgbtq+ and this movie was like a good step to start with but again the plot is very very basic. One thing I liked was that the guys looked straight men especially Jitendra Kumar and it kinda broke the stereotype of gay men being only girly with painted nails and all but I would have liked one of them. This movie is not bad, plot not engrossing, good acting.

Hilarious take on Homophobia. (Actual Rating is 7 but I'm generous with a 10)
akhil02718 July 2020
This is probably the best way to educate the majority of India regarding homosexuality. Even very serious scenes are made in a fun way. The people who gave negative reviews probably didn't get director's intentions. He meant movie to be silly. But still it has something important to say. Another thing I loved was the portrayal of gay characters. They don't have any stereotypical mannerisms of gays. It's funny but it doesn't make any gay jokes. And using the iconic scene from DDLJ was brilliant. We always get to see a man and woman in love. But we never got to see a man and man in love or a woman and woman in love. This is a really fun movie to watch. I didn't expect much and maybe that's why I enjoyed it so much.
