In response to shifting dynamics at film festivals, many of which have been impacted by the pandemic, a new curated Spanish film platform, Panoramic.film is entering the market.
Spearheaded by curator Xavier Puerto, director of the Festival Rec de Tarragona and a Spanish-language film programmer for the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia, Panoramica’s offer is two-fold: “We offer festivals the possibility of completing their line-up with especially curated programs and, through our selective catalogue, offer filmmakers the chance to see their films extend their rounds on the international festival circuit,” said Puerto.
The idea for the platform came about after conversations with various festival heads and cultural institutions as they grappled with the changes brought about by the pandemic, with many forced to hold online or hybrid editions.

International sales agency The Open Reel has scored a number of sales at the Berlin European Film Market (EFM).
Daniel Sánchez López’s BFI Flare Lgbtiq+ Film Festival selection “Boy Meets Boy,” a German production, has sold to Peccadillo Pictures for the U.K. and Ireland and to Optimale to France and Francophone territories. The film, about a brief encounter in Berlin between two young men, previously sold to Salzgber for Germany and German-speaking territories, Gagaoolala for South and Southeast Asia and to Ariztical for North America.
Jessé Miceli’s Cambodia/France production “Coalesce” has been sold to Gagaoolala for South and Southeast Asia and to Ariztical for North America. The Phnom Penh-set film follows three disparate lives in the city.
Ariztical has also picked up David Moragas’ Spanish production “A Stormy Night” for North America. The film follows two boys who have to weather 12 hours of a New York storm together.

International sales agency The Open Reel has taken world rights to “We Will Never Die” by Eduardo Crespo (“As Close as Possible”), and will represent it at the upcoming San Sebastian film festival where it is up for the Golden Seashell award.
The film follows Rodrigo and his mother who travel to the town where his elder brother has just died. While Rodrigo will gradually come to grips with the adults’ pain and will start to leave his childhood behind, his mother tries to uncover the mysteries of her son’s death.
The cast includes Romina Escobar (“Brief Story from the Green Planet”), Rodrigo Santana and Brian Alba. The film is produced by Santiago Loza and Rita Cine, with the support of Argentina’s National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts.
