Listen to the title and don't watch

Warning: Spoilers
The tagline is also very apt, and there is no way I can unsee this movie.

The acting is awful. The script is bad and boring. The camera work isn't even fun, and the sfx are boring after the second time you see them. The story unfolds in such a slow way that I couldn't bring myself to care about anyone. Even the ending was just kind of ho-um. I'd expected to have some actual shock and gore and twisted events when the movie brings up Man Bites Dog a couple times, but I was sorely disappointed.

I thought the story really had potential, though. What if The Ring were a snuff film? Let the ghost get a good cathartic revenge, let sickos get their comeupance, have a curse punishing the wicked.

However, this fell short of any real impact. Came across more as an afterschool special about the dangers of incels and the exploitative nature of porn. And if that was supposed to be the point, perhaps it should have been a lot bolder about the message, and not toyed around with the torture and abuse and flashbacks to the warning signs.

Cannot recommend on any level.

Could have made a better impression

Warning: Spoilers
I can't say that this is a quality movie. It's got some serious problems. But underneath the surface, there's a decent story here. It just needed some additional eyes on the script.

Despite what a number of reviewers are saying, the acting isn't terrible for a movie of this caliber. The photography is a little annoying sometimes, but mostly it plays fine.

It's pretty much a bottle movie, one exterior location at the very beginning, followed by all of the action in one room, then (most likely) the same room dressed up to be two alternate locations.

While I was aware of this, it didn't feel like the movie needed more locations than that.

Where the movie really stumbles is in the messaging.

Our protagonist is mostly good. His failing is that he doesn't immediately condemn his friend for his extreme interests in porn. That doesn't seem like it's enough to put him through this. I had assumed that the story was going to have him going through the wringer, followed by the antagonists discovering that they had ensnared him by accident.

Instead, we get a muddled message creating an equivalency between supporting snuff films, being aware of them, and participating in them.

This may have been intentional, but it's very hard to tell.

It's unclear to me who would be the ideal audience for this. Maybe... people who enjoyed later Hellraiser movies?

Slow and plodding. Could've been decent but such a wasted effort.

The Trailer is just Click bait
Kremer-Thomas20 December 2020
The film has neither an interesting story nor a useful resolution. Don't click had an interesting idea, but the execution was boring nonsense with interspersed snuff scenes. There are far better things to pass the time, like watching paint dry.

Such a Waste
anissa-taylor22 December 2020
The premise had potential. Unfortunately between rubbish writing, questionable creative decisions, poor flow and some less than stellar acting, this film was a complete waste of everyone's effort. They really tried to make it creepy, but it wasn't, and the pace was just too slow for anything to really click. Don't bother, honestly. Such a boring film.

Oh, it was a snoozefest...

Well, sometimes you just got to take heed of a low rating on IMDb. But still, I do give movies that I haven't already seen a fair chance and sit down to watch it. Sometimes there are movies that are actually enjoyable enough out there, despite of low ratings.

But the 2020 movie "Don't Click" wasn't one such movie. No, Sir, this here was just downright bland and mundane.

And it didn't really help to impress me that the movie's storyline was so far out there that it was just hard to buy into the movie and take it seriously. I am sure that the script sounded good enough on paper. But the transition to the screen just wasn't all that grand.

Perhaps if you are just starting out on your journey down the horror lane, then a movie such as "Don't Click" from writer Courtney Ellum and director G-Hey Kim has something enjoyable enough to offer. But for a seasoned horror veteran such as myself, then this movie was just a swing and a miss.

It should be said that the acting in the movie was actually good enough, taking into consideration the limitations imposed upon the actors and actresses given the lack of a properly thought through script and storyline.

Visually then "Don't Click" just wasn't noteworthy. The special effects - whatever little there were - were adequate. But it was not something that made my day, much less impress me.

It was the storyline that killed off "Don't Click" for me, short and simple.

My rating of "Don't Click" land on a generous three out of ten stars. As the movie indicates, don't click (that play button)...

Of cyberspace, this was stupid all over the line. if this isnt extreme left or right impulses underneath this then ill quit revewing every cyberflick the next 10 years. because there is a biblical doomed explanation, there are a moral explanation and there is a philosophical explanation to this, but i shall not take that elaboration. this was just stupid and dumb filmmaking and story... best regards the grumpy old man

Not badly acted
amymay-6991617 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
But yet still bad. I guess the of the character didn't tell his friend off enough about his taste in porn, and got thrown into porn hell with him. Which was dumb because he did seem like a likeable character who was trying to save his friend. And I think a better use of the torture of said friend would not be to kill him,but to shock him into being a better person. Acting was actually pretty good, storyline fell flat. So not the worst movie, really, but just not gelled enough into a fleshed out plot to be truly enjoyable. Just frustrating since it ostensibly might have been an eight star film. Too bad.

Could have been good
bowmanblue16 January 2024
I've got nothing against low budget horror films - in fact, they make up most of my DVD collection. If a story is inventive enough to grip you and use only a handful (or one!) location, then there's a good chance that it can use it's - limited - budget in new and creative ways. 'Don't Click' is definitely a low budget film about a college student who er 'indulges' in dodgy websites, but gets more than he bargained for when a supernatural website - literally - sucks him in. And then, to make matters worse, it draws in his flatmate.

I was quite happy with that premise. We see where they're taken straight away - a creepy, single room with no exits and foreboding lighting. And we're introduced to the film's main 'antagonist' who kind of looks like Hellraiser's 'Pinhead' (if he was going for a job interview at a reasonably-priced men's fashion store) and he's actually quite well made-up in terms of gore.

However, the film starts to run out of ideas and, before I wrote this review, I noticed that it was based on a short film. That makes sense. There's clearly enough here for something shorter, but not really a full theatrical release.

The film-makers are forced to pad out the runtime with needless flashbacks which slows the pace down as opposed to moving the story forward to whatever conclusion is going to come.

The performances are okay and, as mentioned the suited nasty who resides in this 'online dimension' is actually pretty menacing, but the whole plot kind of meanders and you could probably skip the middle part because it's all just padding until the final confrontation.

This is a shame really as this could have been a nice little cult classic.
