A new Batman animated film is in the works that introduces a new version of the caped crusader. The film, Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios a.k.a The Clash of the Empires, will feature an Aztec Batman who becomes the vigilante after his father dies during a Spanish inquisition. The film will be produced by WB Animation and DC.
Aztec Batman gives a cultural revamp to the characters that appear in the DC comics, taking popular characters such as the Joker and Harvey Dent and adapting them to suit the Aztec culture. While many are excited about this new take on the cape crusader, some fans seem to be taking issue with the change in the character’s original design and characteristics.
Batman Azteca Will See A New Batman In a Different Era A still from Batman: Gotham by Gaslight
The popular DC comic character Batman has seen many iterations over the years.

People say you can never go home again. That could be true for Max (Brian Cox) when he returns to his daughter’s house after an extended prison sentence in the new drama Prisoner’s Daughter. Emotions run high as father and daughter reconnect and old wounds open. Boundaries risk getting crossed while Max tries to compensate for the lost time. In Vertical‘s Prisoner’s Daughter trailer, we find Beckinsale and Cox at odds while navigating a damaged relationship. Can Max repair the damage before time runs out?
Catherine Hardwicke directs from a script by Mark Bacci. Prisoner’s Daughter “is a gritty, turbulent thriller that follows Max (Brian Cox) who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and granted a compassionate release after 12 years in prison with the condition he resides with his estranged daughter, Maxine (Kate Beckinsale),” reads the film’s official synopsis. “As a single mom desperate for income to raise her only son,...

Kids of the early 2000s are likely deeply familiar with the Nintendo GameCube, the console that was released in September of 2001 in Japan (and the following month in North America). The design of the console itself was, and still is, immensely appealing, sporting a pleasant indigo/grey color scheme, and boasting complex, unique controllers that fit easily into the hands. It was also the first Nintendo home console to make use of discs instead of cartridges for its games, allowing the company to remain competitive in a marketplace already dominated by disc-based systems like the Sony Playstation. Weirdly, GameCube discs were of a miniaturized variety, allegedly to help curb piracy after Dreamcast games were pirated to hell and back.
Unfortunately for Nintendo, the GameCube was not one of their more successful pieces of hardware. According to Nintendo's own website, the GameCube only moved 21.74 million units, well below any of their systems to date.

Breaking convention is a fantastic way to stand out among a vast ocean of television series hitting the airwaves and streaming services weekly. Thankfully, Netflix‘s new crime series Kaleidoscope hopes to change how audiences interact with episodic content. An eight-part heist series, Kaleidoscope, will be distributed to Netflix subscribers in a random viewing order. That’s right, folks. You can watch Kaleidoscope any way you please and still walk away with a cohesive narrative. At least that’s the hook of the series, which has yet to go into practice.
For the uninitiated, Kaleidoscope follows a master thief and his crew over 25 years as they attempt a 7 billion heist together. When Netflix subscribers view the series, they will feed random episodes, except for the final chapter, for reasons that should be obvious. Each episode title is associated with a different color, with “White: The Heist” being the last chapter.

Amazon Freevee has given the greenlight to “Clean Slate,” a new comedy from Norman Lear’s Act III Productions, starring Laverne Cox and comedian George Wallace. The original comedy has been in development at Freevee since February 2021, back when the ad-supported streamer was known as IMDb TV.
“Clean Slate,” which comes from Cox, Wallace and Dan Ewen, centers on car wash owner Henry (Wallace), whose estranged child comes home to Alabama after 17 years. But he must do some soul searching as he comes to terms with the fact that his adult child is a trans woman, Desiree (Cox). There’s no word yet on an episodic order, when the series might shoot or an estimated premiere date.
Ewen serves as executive producer and writer on “Clean Slate,” and he has story credit along with Cox and Wallace. Cox will also serve as an executive producer on the show, while Wallace is a producer.

Kate Beckinsale showed off her incredible figure on her Instagram page as she sashayed down the hallway in a glossy little outfit.
The 49-year-old actress of hit flicks such as Pearl Harbor, Underworld, and Jolt took to her now-famous home hallway for a little fashion show. Alongside a friend, the pair appeared to be having a blast strutting their stuff down the marble tiles.
The actress’ cat, Instagram-famous Persian feline Clive, remained faithfully at his owner’s side as she posed for the lens, looking as cute and fluffy as ever.
Captioning the series with, “Every day is a journey,” Kate first could be seen posing in her skin-tight, black, shiny latex dress next to her pal, who wore a flapper-esque, pink glitter gown.

A total of 28 of the most popular films of 2021 met the criteria to receive the ReFrame Stamp, the designation that confirms a movie production crew is gender-balanced. That is off one pic from last year’s 29 films, the most ever.
Despite the slight dip, organizers ReFrame and IMDbPro saw bigger gains inside the numbers. There were 31 films written by women in the top 100, a 47.6% compared with 2020. In 2021, nine films were written by women of color, up from four in 2020. They were offset by declines in film directed by women and films directed by women of color along with dips in productions using women cinematographers, composers and VFX supervisors.

Kate Beckinsale is probably still best known for starring in the "Underworld" franchise, but it's been several years since she's donned that leather suit. In the meantime, Beckinsale has been busy starring in an Amazon series called "The Widow" and kicking butt in this year's "Jolt." Remember Crank? The 2006 Jason Statham starring film from directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor? Well Jolt could be seen as something of a sister movie to that film – with Beckinsale’s Lindy...

“Jolt,” a Kate Beckinsale-fronted actioner helmed by “Buffaloed” director Tanya Wexler, is a film that knows what it is and owns its sense of innate disposability. There is always plenty of fun to be had with a rock-solid piece of disposable mainstream entertainment, and while it’s also undeniably fun to see Beckinsale, normally cast in more purportedly “respectable” roles, kicking all sorts of ass in her very own “John Wick,” it’s also not hard to wish that “Jolt” itself didn’t crackle with more lived-in electricity of its own.

Photo: ‘Jolt’/Amazon Studios Very few films can claim to have either reinvented or reinvigorated their very own genre. ‘The Blair Witch Project’ (1999) unleashed a torrid stream of look-alike low-budget found-footage horror, ‘Jaws’ (1975) perfected the summer blockbuster to a science, and ‘John Wick’ (2014) reimagined the brutal revenge thriller for an entirely new generation. While that film (as well as its sequels) have maintained a refreshing authenticity and striking individuality throughout, the innumerable rip-offs and wannabes that they inspired have steadily run short of both. To date, Disney has tried to play an original animated film, a Marvel title, and an Emma Stone 101 Dalmatians villainess movie in theaters and on the PVOD tier of the studio’s streaming service simultaneously, and this weekend they’ll accelerate windows again on the Dwayne Johnson-Emily Blunt theme park-inspired title Jungle Cruise.
Given how we’ve seen Disney+ Premier siphon ticket sales with Black Widow in its initial Friday-to-Saturday decline and second weekend drop, industry estimates are conservative heading into the weekend for Jungle Cruise at around $25M domestic at 4,200+ theaters –the widest to date– and another $40M abroad for a $65M global start. We’re hearing that Disney will release first weekend global Disney+ Premier revenue figures as well on Jungle Cruise.

Jai Courtney has joined Chris Pratt on the cast of the Amazon series ‘The Terminal List.’
The series focuses on Pratt’s James Reece after his entire platoon of Navy SEALs is ambushed during a high-stakes covert mission. Reece then returns home to his family with conflicting memories of the event and questions about his culpability. However, as new evidence comes to light, Reece discovers dark forces working against him, endangering not only his life but the lives of those he loves.
Courtney will take on the recurring role of Steve Horn, a billionaire kingpin behind Capstone Industries. Capstone is an enormously successful global fund with its hand in everything from pharmaceuticals to fashion. But Horn’s bread and butter is capitalizing on the latest military trends and innovations. Horn’s hubris and influence are equally threatening and will put him squarely in Reece’s crosshairs.

If there’s one franchise I never really got into, it’s the Underworld films, starring the lovely Kate Beckinsale. Okay, I think we can all agree that we can never get enough of Kate Beckinsale. Speaking of which, how come she hasn’t been in more movies recently? I remember when she was a rising star in the early and mid 2000s, but I haven’t seen her in any major movies in recent years. That’s very unfortunate, but at least she has that action movie Jolt coming out soon, which looks super fun. But if we’re going to point to the most

Jolt is more science-y and less supernatural than the aforementioned in this new fast-paced, high-octane rush for adrenaline junkies.

There are a plethora of new titles coming to Prime Video and IMDb TV (Amazon’s premium free streaming service) in August, but the best on the list is on August 1st when Predator 2 hits.
The 1990 sequel from director Stephen Hopkins starred Danny Glover, Gary Busey, María Conchita Alonso, Ruben Blades, Bill Paxton, Calvin Lockhart, Kevin Peter Hall. It’s the perfect Saturday afternoon flick, has a wonderful score from composer Alan Silvestri and the final scene of the movie with the big reveal of the spaceship’s wall that the Predator had a Xenomorph skull as one of its prized trophies. We Alien fans in the audience that opening weekend went wild and hoped for an Alien v Predator crossover, which finally happened with 2004’s Alien vs. Predator. A sequel, Predators, was released in 2010, followed by The Predator in 2018.
Predator 2 has developed a huge cult following since it’s initial release.

How did a movie boasting an ensemble cast that includes Kate Beckinsale, Bobby Cannavale, Jai Courtney, Laverne Cox, and Stanley Tucci go so wrong? Jolt is a mess from start to finish with horrible acting all around, a ridiculous premise worthy of a She-Hulk storyline, and a twist you see coming a mile away. On the guilty-pleasure side, you do get a rush watching Beckinsale kick butt despite the idiotic premise. It’s no wonder Jolt went straight to Amazon Prime Video.

What Jolt lacks in originality and subtlety it at least somewhat makes up for in verve. The sardonic action comedy, starring Kate Beckinsale and Stanley Tucci, follows the adventures of a revenge-seeking woman suffering from debilitating anger-management issues. Directed by Tanya Wexler (Hysteria), the predictably plotted genre flick is best suited for viewers who don’t mind exchanging an engrossing narrative for heavy doses of body slamming, building explosions and car chases.

Tanya Wexler’s action-comedy “Jolt” flatlines early. Really early, kicking off with a shockingly dull four-minute piece of voiceover detailing decades of our heroine’s misbegotten life so far. It’s cold, clinical, and packed with plenty of dry details when all we really need to know about Lindy (Kate Beckinsale) is that she suffers from “intermittent explosive disorder.” Presumably, it’s the same condition that torments The Hulk: it means she gets pissed off easily, her always-ready-to-boil rage then triggering something like super-strength. It’s an iffy start for a film about explosive anger and the woman from whom it flows. For a film built on the wild concept that bonafide action bad-ass Kate Beckinsale has to wear an electrode-laden vest meant to shock her into submission before she maims everyone around her, there’s only one response:
Tucked inside the voiceover are a few important tidbits: Lindy’s...

Early in “Jolt,” a relentlessly busy and cacophonously noisy action film that often comes across as a Kmart version of “Black Widow,” Lindy, the violently inclined protagonist played by genre vet Kate Beckinsale, explains why she’s singularly well-equipped to be a vengeful vigilante. “Some people cry,” she tells a doctor trying, and failing, to curb her impulses. “Some people drink. Some people write shit poetry. I hurt people. Might as well put it to good use.”
Unfortunately, Lindy has a difficult time controlling her unique talents. As a result of a neurological malady diagnosed as intermittent explosive disorder, she is gifted with near-superhuman strength and lethal martial artistry whenever anyone — a sleazy crime lord, a torturing interrogator, a snooty waitress, anyone — makes her angry.

Female rage has long been the subject of films, across an array of genres, but only in recent years have women taken the helm, telling these stories in more nuanced, layered, and — yes — super-fun ways. That uniquely female gaze and energy provide the beating heart behind director Tanya Wexler’s indulgent, entertaining action flick “Jolt.”
Lindy (Kate Beckinsale) is a woman with an “impulse control problem.” A traumatic upbringing initiated her rage issues, but as most women in the world know, the trauma of growing up female is a lifelong lesson in grinning and bearing it. But that’s not how Lindy rolls. Despite years of therapy, and her attempts to vent as a member of the military or an athlete in extreme sports, Lindy has found only one way to curb her violent desires: Using a vest made out of electrodes, she gives herself little electric shocks whenever her rage gets too overwhelming.

Kate Beckinsale Still Hoping for an ‘Underworld’-‘Blade’ Crossover Movie: ‘What a Duo That Would Be’
Welcome to this week’s “Just for Variety.”
Kate Beckinsale is “highly” doubtful that another “Underworld” will be made, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t up for playing Selene in a sixth movie. “I really wanted them to do an ‘Underworld’-‘Blade’ mashup. What a duo that would be,” she told me at the premiere of her action thriller “Jolt” at the San Vicente Bungalows. “I would definitely do that, but I think they just wanted to reboot ‘Blade’ as ‘Blade’ so they didn’t go for it.” Beckinsale also revealed that it wouldn’t be hard for her to slip into Selene’s signature black leather pants because she still has a pair. “I know exactly where they are,” she said. “You never know who you want to impress.”

Kate Beckinsale and Jai Courtney held court on Monday night at the San Vicente Bungalows at the premiere of their new action thriller “Jolt.”
But Covid protocols came first. After checking in with a door person outside, guests were asked to take rapid tests in the library of the West Hollywood members-only club and not to mingle until they were given their results, most of which took about 10 minutes.
Courtney told me he’s had “quite a few” at-home Covid tests in the last few days because he’s been busy promoting “The Suicide Squad” sequel. “I don’t mind,” he said. “They come to your door and shove a couple of things up your nose.”
Beckinsale admitted she found a sliver of silver lining during the pandemic. “I did Ok because I quite like being on my own,” she said. “I’m finding the ‘re-entry’ a little bit much for me.

If you couldn’t tell already, Jolt is going to be an action-comedy that’s kind of along the same lines as Guns Akimbo starring Samara Weaving and Daniel Radcliffe, but definitely of a different variety. Kate Beckinsale has already showcased how much of a badass she is in the past thanks to the Underworld movies and even the less-than-stellar Total Recall reboot, but this time around she’s taking things to a different level. "What is it about gross old men always underestimating women?" Amazon has unveiled an official trailer for an energetic action comedy called Jolt, the latest from filmmaker Tanya Wexler. This is dropping on Prime Video in July right in the middle of the summer, and looks like a wild ride. Jolt is apparently a bit of a female-twist on Crank, with Kate Beckinsale in the lead role as a bouncer. She stars as Lindy, a woman with a slightly-murderous anger-management problem that she controls with the help of an electrode-lined vest she uses to shock herself back to normalcy whenever she gets homicidal. After the first guy she's ever fallen for is murdered, she goes on a revenge-fueled rampage to find the killer while the cops pursue her as their suspect. The excellent cast includes Bobby Cannavale, Jai Courtney, Laverne Cox, David Bradley, Ori Pfeffer, with Susan Sarandon and Stanley Tucci.

British actress Kate Beckinsale has been synonymous with action flicks most of her career and likely first became aware to American audiences thanks to her leading role in the Michael Bay WWII film “Pearl Harbor” opposite Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett. She then led the successful R-rated “Underworld” franchise as the heroic vampiress badass Selene, coming slightly after the era of “Blade” and “The Matrix.” Other various projects included the Hugh Jackman monster hunter film “Van Helsing” and Len Wiseman-directed “Total Recall” remake starring Colin Farrell.
